Hey guys,

we are working out a turbo setup for rb30/25 set up. initially we were looking at a gt35/40 and after chatting to a friend he is saying to look at a td06 Mitsubishi turbo as an alternative. Problem is we have been browsing eBay for hours and you can't easily tell whats a quality turbo and what is junk. If someone has any advice to offer when looking for a turbo or any good Australian sites to purchase a turbo that will get us somewhere in the 500-600 hp mark at the crank and doesn't carry the HKS or Garrett price tag would be be greatly appreciated. If there are any brands you recommend to buy or stay away from don't hesitate to let us know.

There is a thread from simon 32 about a good cheap turbo that he got onto. I think from memory they are called kendo turbos. He has used a t66 with excellent results on a rb25.

It was a fairly recent thread. Should only be a few pages in.

This had alarm bells ringing.

How many times do people have to say - EBAY TURBOS ARE f**kING SHIT.

Get a phone book, look up "Turbocharger", or go to www.yellowpages.com.au

I will say two things to all of you:

The Kando dynamics/Kinugawa turbos actually seem to be an excellent product, especially when looking at the price. The T67 in question provides results inbetween a 3076 and 35R for response and power, cant go wrong for under $1000 delivered. If it fails it is simply a T3 flange turbo that you can replace with a garrett (yet it has been said research found ZERO reported failures on multiple forums).

The second thing I will say is to OP, while the Kando turbos are excellent etc, please DO NOT be a tight arse.

People have had good results with these but i don't know how long they have been going. I paid NZ$2100 for a brand new GT3540 and for the extra grand I am quite happy because I only want to do it once. If these Kando turbos had been around for three years or more I might have considered one.

been in al's RB30 with 3076 external and it is absolute nuts, power, response and torque everywhere

form memory he made over 330rwkw and it absolutely flies - send him a pm if you are after exact specs

If you want to go cheaper there are T04 and GT series bush bearing turbochargers that could do the job and not be too laggy .

I vaguely remember a hotted up VL having a T04 60-1 turbo and it was tearing up the tar with 10 pounds of boost and a cammed SOHC head . It did have to have an external gate (mount) welded on its exhaust manifold .

Most are going to have lower temp diesel spec turbines and exhaust housings but that and the plain bearing center section are where the cost savings are .

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.   
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.

    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
