Hi guys

My drivers side power window motor packed it in last week

Window was all the way up which I guess was good only bad thing is closing the door had to be done from outside the car as the glass is too high to close the door without it scraping the plastic trim

Anyhow I called up the local nissan dealer who wanted $600 RRP or $510 trade

I promptly went on ebay and bought a new motor for $179 + 23 postage

I had a look on google and found a good DIY guide on how to change the window motor at G35 driver here

Problem with buying stuff from the states is that it takes at least a week to get here

I decided to try the DIY guide and clean the motor with some brake cleaner and some cotton bud tips

After about 3 hours... "please note that im not mechanically minded, should take anyone with 1/2 an idea no more than 1 1/2 to 2" I had the motor out, cleaned up and everything back together working!

When the new motor comes from the states ill hold onto it until the cleaned up one gives up again

argh....my driver side window starting to go too...got quoted around $550 for a motor, and around $270 for the regulator from Nissan in Darwin. Planning to order the motors from eBay as well, just unsure if I should do the regulators too? Might actually try to pull apart the door and clean the motor first....not confident though.

Its not all that hard, check out the step by step guide in the link that I posted

Im by no means savvy when it comes to pulling cars apart but if youv got an afternoon off, some cotton bud tips and some metho/brake cleaner youv got nothing to loose by cleaning the old motor. If your lucky it will come back to life for you. Iv still got the new motor coming as I dont know how much life a revived old one will have. In the meantime I can @ least drive my car without the hassel of having the window glass being too high to close the door unless someone helps from the outside.

I dont think you will need a regulator

Oh and BTW for anyone else reading. My window started to go on the fritz about 2 weeks before it completley died "as in would work sometimes and then other times not at all" so be ready if this is happening to you now

On a side note the revived motor now goes up and down faster than the live passanger side

this is a good instructional vid on window motor removal. As for cleaning I wouldn't bother given the poor success rate. I replaced and reset both window motors on the weekend

Thanks 180 wanabe and mosoto for the link to both the guide and the video. I agree that cleaning the motors might not be worth the effort, so best I order them first and taking it from there. Might be an obvoius question but should the window be down when i attempt this (haven't had a chance to look at the video yet)?

Ezy03 - would be great if you can advise where you got your motors from, most of the ones i've seen from ebay are around US$180 a piece and not including shipping (still much cheaper than getting it locally though). FYI - Nissan dealer here quoted me approx. $180 per door for replacing the motors.

ill try calling up nissan next to my place and some other ones for install prices thanks for the bench mark of 180 per door.

per door - yes.

everyone seems to forget that these are not the easiest cars to work on at times. paying someone to do teh job usually involves an hourly fee of 90-110/hr. in my case it's 90.

I agree with Chris, having replaced both I think $90p/h for a qualified person to do it is fair. Someone experienced with this car should take much less than an hour per door. Example of this is the Video I linked above, length 20m:10s :)

2 hours really....maybe i have been lucky but i have taken off the door panels a number of times when my drivers side motor was having issues, to tap the motor while pressing the window up button.

by the time i got around to ordering the window motor the install only took me a timed 50mins to change out the window motor and get everything put back on correctly.

I reckon an hour for this job.

Can anyone tell me if I should worry. Sometimes when the passenger door is being closed it goes down about 100mm instead of going up the last bit. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a sign of things to come?

Yeah, it happened to me before the window motor failed.

Try holding "up" the window button until the window fully close. It worked for me, and I wouldn't dare to open the window until I got it fixed.

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
