I've bought a 2nd hand factory momo steering wheel for my r34. But on the right side of the wheel, the clear coat is worn and the leather started to crackle and sometimes becomes sticky. So I'm just wondering if anyone have a DIY solution to it. Thanks! :D

Yup, they do.

I've been talking about the PPC Co products (http://www.ppcco.com.au/leatherique.htm & http://www.ppcco.com.au/kits6.htm) on the thread http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/348260-reskin-or-recondition-r32gtr-steering-wheel - you might glean something from that.

The leatherique kit comes with dye, clear-coat, etc - so a straight forward DIY option if you're game.

Good luck with it :)

Thanks Jenna :)

And to others, you don't see cows that's as shiny as a new steering wheel walking around, do you? :P

Edit: I think I'll take a pic of it later and should you. It is nothing like the pics I saw on that thread. It's much worse lol. And because it's got perferated holes in the leather, I think the filler might cover them. But then again, I'm sure it will be better than what it is now.

Really impressed with that company Jenna has mentioned.

I ordered and paid for the kit on Thursday afternoon at about 1pm. It arrived in the mail on Friday.

I'm gonna give it a go now on the momo, will post up results later.

I've sanded back and re-dyed my cracked/cardboard hard factory momo yesterday, and I must say... That kit has done an amazing job, cannot believe how good it has turned out.

Now I just gotta wait a bit more before I can clear coat it. But I'll be posting up photos when it's done :D

Glad to hear Charles89.

I've only got praise for this kit. I've bought two so far from a local paint shop. Done two steering wheels of mine, and a friends, along with gearboot, gearknob, handbrake etc on both my cars. Comes up trumps.

Anyway, let us know how you go :)

After a few of trying to restore my steering wheel with the restoration kit. Here's the result, very happy with it:

This is what it looks like when I first bought it

After cleaning and oiling it, then finished off with a light sand.

Re-dyed and re-clear coated it.

If you go to the PPC Co website you'll find a local store, my local paint shop stocked mine; It's really quite inexpensive too ($50):

You can also order through their website if you haven't got a local retailer.

I think after this kit, I might even take your word on GlassyLite :P

Geez, you still haven't tried GlassyLite? ;)

Lol, I been using cut and polish, but I think I might try a solution that lasts longer. It's $40 per kit posted yeah?

As for the steering wheel kit. I paid $64? It was express posted to my house the next day, very good service.

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
