OK I've just finished The Force Unleashed II on the Wii and I think I'm done with this console.

It's modded, got about 20 or so games but I think my love for it has passed.

I've been craving a racing game and I kept my original Xbox just to have Forza but it looks like puss on an LCD and it's a bit old and clunky now.

So I'm thinking I might ditch the Wii and buy a second hand xbox or PS3 and get the respective racing game.

So the question is, which console?

The xbox can be modded which appeals to me a lot as I don't play online (are there mod chips that support online play with the xbox, my wii had no troubles online modded). The PS3 appears to have nicer graphics and a pretty swish interface for media centre capabilities (nice but not essential as I have a computer near the TV for this stuff).

Throw some thoughts at me, the Xbox looks cheaper, can be modded etc but the PS3 seems more powerful, more polished (maybe it will last longer satisfaction wise with the graphics etc?)

Also what about GT5 vs Forza3? I only have limited experience with both.

side bar: How are you guys getting your Xbox games? I was just downloading them as torrents for the Wii, worked a treat.

Cheers

Both systems are pretty effin sweet so I'm sure you'll be happy with whichever one you get.

Keep in mind that you'll eventually play online so id get the system my mates have. Online play is more fun with people you know.

online play is not a huge factor as I'm a casual gamer and just play when I want or can and usually only short periods.

One thing I didn't mention above was blue ray. xbox won't do that will it?

Can the xbox record tv?

Bluray is only available on the ps3. ps3 also has play tv which let's you record freeview.

Xbox has foxtel though. Not sure about recording it.

Generally, games run better on the 360 when theyre out on both consoles. Although I think ps3 exclusives are better... Apart from gears of war on the 360, which is pretty awesome.

That's a good point. Mass Effect is coming to PS3 so the only big xbox exclusive titles will be gears of war, forza and halo. Compare that with ps3 that has gt, uncharted, demon's souls, killzone, little big planet etc etc. And it plays blu rays.

What do you mean by run better, the ps3 is the more powerful console isn't it?

Is it the general consensus that gt is better than forza? I've only had limited play time on gt.

Which one would be the better media center?

Ps3 is an excellent media server.

Despite its hardware. Ps3 is difficult for which to write code and so game companies will make the x360 version first and then transfer it over. Unless this is done well, the end result is a buggy laggy game for what otherwise should be running smooth.

Think of a car. You can have all these expensive mods but unless you've got a good tune to go with it, you're car is gonna run like shit.

to my understanding the hardware in the 360 is superior to the PS3 therefore have better visual quality.

my GF had a PS3 and i have a 360, we sold the PS3

I thought it was more as stated above, PS3 is more powerful but harder to code for. In my head this means PS3 will stay around longer and maybe possibly get better graphics as developers work out how to ring the best from it. 360 maybe retired sooner?

I've had an Xbox 360, sold that, bought a PS3 and never looked back.

If you want an oversize paper weight, don't buy an Xbox 360, grab a rock from out back. Superior hardware my ass.

However Sony probably didn't plan on completely losing control of the ability to sign ligitimate software for the PS3 (and PSP). This could push forward the release of the next console.

this is just what i said but the other way around?

did i hit a nerve?

oh and a quote from divhunter from a different thread

The XBOX 360 has a better GPU

The XBOX 360 implementation of the IBM PowerPC CPU is better for games

The XBOX 360 security / anti-piracy measures still actually work

Microsoft and Sony are equally evil.

You do know that the Cell and Xenon processors are both IBM PowerPC CPUs right? You know the XBOX GPU is superior to the PS3 GPU?

lulz at reposting my post.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
