Just wondering about M35 ARX's Standard stereo equipment.

Do they all come with Bose speakers? Or are there cheaper factory options?

I know the sub in the spare wheel seems to be a pretty rare option but not sure about the speakers, head unit etc.

Reason, being is that I'm looking at one that is currently 'on the boat' from Japan so they don't have any stereo info yet. ... Comparing this to one that I have looked at that does have the Bose (The sound is great!)

Not really a huge deal to me but interested just the same.

Edit. OK, after some more searching, I found that there is also a Clarion deck for ARX, so I suppose they would have lesser quality speakers?

Do they still sound OK?

i have the base system.. speakers are panasonic.. head unit is clarion. All m35 and V35 head units are clarion units.. even the ones with Bose imprinted on em. I had to get my sisters one fixed which is bose, and its a clarion, found out by googleing the serial.

I think they sound good for a stock system. but since I pulled the DVD thing out the screen doesnt work.. looking for a double din one without the screen. i wanna put my system in :)

aaron,

shoot me a PM I can probably help.

one thing to note on teh ARX as well. the 6cd does tend to destroy itself AND if the unit dies it takes the A/C with it. bear that in mind.

Cheers Chris.

I am pretty much set on an ARX so I guess i will have to cross that bridge when i come to it.

Are they difficult to repair/replace?

Can you just disconnect them when they fail to avoid it taking out the air con.. Or does that take out the whole head unit.

PS. Had another look/listen to the stereo in an ARX I was looking at and I could not see Bose written anywhere, so I guess it was the standard system. It sounded pretty good to me.

up to 2007 I could fix them. now parts are becoming scarce for them. when the unit dies IT WILL TAKE THE A/C with it. there is no getting around this without spending money on new panelwork and controls.

the dead unit syndrome I can fix the F0 and F3 errors will write the unit off. if it happens that you get a car like this have a spare $1k handy.

along that topic, my 6 stack in my RX is dead, but AC is ok still, but just started to die from time to time, is it possible to save the AC now by disconnecting stacker? or does it need to be repaired?

really dont want to have to spend another 1k on it ATM

if its stating to fail - pull it out and send it up to me. I'll repair it and send it back. once it fails you have NO control over the A/C at all. it will lock on whatever you last had it on OR 24 deg.

stacker is not the cause of the dead unit sydrome..

  • 1 month later...

Another question along these lines....

If the stereo fails in an ARX, is it possible to just replace the double DIN with an aftermarket double DIN? Or even if it hasn't failed.

There would be some cutting of the dash etc. But if it was done properly would it be possible?

Cheers

it will look like shit if you cut it

get a proper double din. but AFAIK they are only available in black. however in the US the beige interior was popular so might have them in that light grey that the RX and ARX uses

OK. So no cutting, that probably would be shit.

But not sure exactly what yo mean about getting a proper double din??

Cheers

Yup it's all one unit. Had it out the other day. And the cassette cd and aircon are one. You can separate I think but hell of alot work. And pain to do.

Just forget the CD aspect of the stereo and put in a Spec dock and use your Ipod or Iphone. Then you will have music / video's and navigation all from your iphone. If you have jailbroken your Iphone you can even output the display of your ipone to your monitor.

    • Stock ECU (or more accurately stock tune) absolutely refuses to go over 10psi and behaves like you have seen. The Nistune is the same if it is the stock tune. If the Nistune chip has been tuned, the resulting tune could be literally anything for any combination of parts. The Nistune just makes the stock ECU Tunable.
    • So stock ECU does not like anything above 10 psi?  That Nistune one is just for "try" if it will be any different, I know it need to be tune for that. I know but YOU may know about these problem but i/we dont. They few little Skylines here let alone people who know anything about tham so that is why iam asking here
    • So now we have a radiator with no attachments whatsoever. It lifts up with a particularly tight spot between the drivers side air box mount and the lower radiator outlet, but if you've got this far you will sort that too. This is the lower mounts with the rad out so you can see where the rubber bushes go, it is a straight shot upwards Done! Assembly is the reverse of disassembly, with blood less likely to be shed.
    • Right, onto the second last trick. The Air Con condenser is mounted to the front of the radiator and stays in the car when the radiator is removed. There are 2x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the condenser to the radiator, remove those The bottom of the condenser is attached to the radiator with clips. You need to lift the condenser out of those clips and clear (up, then forward). f**ked if  could work out how to do that last bit with the front bumper on. I hope you can, and you share the trick.  Bumper removal probably deserves its own thread one day once I've recovered the will to live, but basically you need to remove the wheels, front inner guard liners (clips and 10mm headed bolts), the self tapper between the guard and the bumper at the rearmost point of the bumper (same as an R32 that bit), any remaining clips at the top/front of the grill, an absolute bastard design with a plate that holds the top of the bumper above the headlight each side (only 1 bolt which is tricky to get to, but the plate catches 2 places on the bumper and must be removed....carefully!) and push clips between the bumper and guard under the headlight. If you've done all that you will be faced with wiring for the fog lights on both sides and in ADM Q50 RS at least, 4 nasty tight plugs on the driver's side for the ADAS stuff. So, the clips at the bottom look like this on drivers side (looking from the front) And on the passenger side (also from the front), you can see this one is already out Clearance on both of these are super tight; the condenser needs to move up but the upper rad support mount prevents that, and the radiator can't move down far because it is (rubber) mounted. Once you achieve the impossible and drop the condenser off those mounts so it does not stop the rad moving, you are good to go
    • OK, next the shroud needs to come off and there are a couple of tricks. Firstly, there is a loom from near the passenger side headlight to the fans, coolant temp sensor etc and there is no plug to undo.  In my case I was OK to leave the shroud on top of the engine so I just undid the passenger side fan plug and about 10 of the clips which gave enough free wire to put it aside. The fan plugs were super tight, the trick I used was a small falt screwdriver to push down on the release tab, then a larger flat screwdriver to lever the plug out of the fan unit....be careful with how much force you apply! If you need to remove the shroud altogether for some reason you will have to deal with all the plugs (tight) and clips (brittle)....good luck. I removed all of the clips and replaced them with cable ties that I will just cut next time. Also, in the Red Sport / 400R at least, the intake heat exchanger reservoir hose is bolted to the shroud in 2 places with 10mm headed bolts; so remove them (the hose stays in the car; no need to undo it at the t fittings down at the radiator lower mount. Once you've dealt with the HX hose and the wiring loom, there are 3x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the shroud to the radiator; remove those.   The shroud then lifts out of the bottom mounts where it sits on the radiator, up and onto the engine out of the way.
