Hey For All Those Lovers Of The R33 I decided to start this thread going because i'm starting to see more and more stock r33's on the road!

I'm not saying that i'm not one of these people cause i am but i only got my car a month n a half ago and am in quite abit of debt for someone my age!

Now whatever money i'm getting together that i'm not putting towards the loan, i'm saving up to put towards the Liner!

Anybody with Ideas, tips, Prices, and whatever u feel u want to say about the R33's please say it cause i'm only starting to understand how the turbo works, ect. i dont no a whole lot about them so your help would be needed!

plus i thought all r33 lovers might have a chance to have our own little chat thingy!

Mate, if your car is stock - I would go for a Cat back exhaust (preferably a jap brand). And a hi-flow panel for your filter. That will keep you happy for a while, then save up and get a bleeder vavle if you cant afford an Electronic Boost Controller.

keep it stock till u learn how to drive!!

Amen to that. Atleast until you gte used to the characteristics of the car...

My plan is to keep it stock for a few months... maybe a stez and wheels in that time, but nothing performance, then a cat back exhaust, the hi-flow cat, dump pipe working my way from outlet to inlet...

No need to up the boost too high (if at all) until you have all the cooling sorted... then i'll see if im content, otherwise look internal (enginewise). Somewhere in there if the balance starts to shift toward undriveable, i'll look at a suspension set up...

Here's the thing, my car isn't compleatly stock but engin wise it is! i'm running a 6 grand sound system in it so the sound is pretty good! there is an exhaugst on it and it's stain steel but it's not from the cat! my dad who's a freak about mod's and doesnt want me to do anything to the car has def. said i cant change the exhaught! I've just recently put in a HKS mushroom filter which has definatly added abit more boost to the car!

when i first got it i was prety confident wit driving it cause in my commodore i was running Gen 3 V8 and i was used to the power. I was recently chatting to a mate who has a sylvia and u mite no it the number plate is KA701C. It was at the final battle at auto salon and it's the charmealin (how ever u spell it) paint!

He's recomended that i get a trust front mount intercooler but i was just thinking or getting an GTR intercooler? which would be better!???

Did your dad pay for the car or u?

If u did, stuff what your dad says, do what mods u want after u learn to drive the thing.

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
