well i already had the power fc installed, but installation of the power fc is plug and play, so you can instal yourself i dont think they would charge you for installing if they had to do it,

and installing a boost controler isnt very hard, it wouldnt cost that much , but anyways still 500 isnt much money at all when you want a good tune.

Gdump - lose the grudge mate, what's your problem. The lap top software is from Apexi, you need to go to Japan to be trained. The hc only allows minor ignition and timing adjustments and that my friend is what you need tuned the most, so if you want a mild tune go there, if you want it done to it's full potential go to CAS. You get what you pay for. Why don't you give them a buzz and talk to Jim.

I was quoted 600-800 by CAS, it just puts big ???? on if it really is worth paying double what others charge. I mean if they have the software and it is easier than tunning than with the HC shouldnt it be cheaper. Fair enough they might be one of the only ones with the software but i think they over charge a bit.

One thing is for sure they wont be getting double the HP !

GZ R33: Wow, didnt know to use the laptop software you need to be trained from japan. Thats pretty goood. But I am from sydney ont canberra, so i dont know where CAS is. By the way, I have no grudge, dont know where you got that from. Im just a new guy looking for info mate. So you shouldnt be judging people like that.

1. Apexi software is in Japanese, hense the training.

2. CAS = Croydon Auto Sports.

3. In your posts you doubt or disagree with replies to your posts.

Trust me I have already gone through this shit before, take my advice, ring them up and talk to them (have to talk to Jim only), I will almost guarantee that sooner or later you will end up going there.

One thing i would like from a tuner is not just to take my car for a few days tune it and hand it back to me without letting me ask questions. I would actually like the tuner to sit with me for a while and explain some of the settings as well as show me what may be changed to get a little more power. Anyone had this happened to them?

It still (and always will) comes down to the tuner.

I've seen some shocking things come out of *** (which I won't go into here), so I don't think the argument of 'you get what you pay for' holds up in this case.

As for the extra 30rwkw from using the software, well anyone can do that, you just change the settings on the dyno.

Or it could be argued that having a more aggressive tune (to get the extra 30rwkw) will be cutting it too close to the edge (ie unsave).

Best thing to do is do your reasearch, find someone that your happy with and price your happy to pay, and go with them.

I went straight to CAS as I came to the conclusion that Jim tunes a PFC on a GTR like no body else! I was not dissapointed, no complaints here.

He talked to me told me what was what and why he was doing this and that bla bla bla.

I'll be having him tune my car for GTR stage 2.

Best of luck guys

Simmo

con at c&v is o.k at tuning the powerfc, for a cheap and nasty tune id go there again.

the hitman did my 3rd tune, had some comments on c&v's work but was overall O.K with it....i was very happy after matt's effort i only asked him to clean up cruise and top end, which he did, now i've gotta get him back to do bottom and mid range as my check engine light comes on too frequently for my liking.

i've had 3 tunes and spent about 700 bucks....should i have saved the bucks and did it all at crd? probably not, i think there are tuners out there, like matt, who can do just a good a job for atleast half the price.

con is getting better at the powerfc.

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
