ive launched mine at 8000 a few times at the drags and never had a problem,

run a nismo twin, 400+ kw and os giken box tho.

and to the above, anything under 6500rpm and it was gutless, had no pull

launch at 8000 on my mickey t's and no wheels spin just gripped and went

gripped and went -- nice, got to get mickey t's, all i get is wheel spin, os box also,

but standard diffs, gearbox everything on last gtr, must have launched 60-80 times never broke anything, who has broken 1st gear or diffs in a GTR ( R33 ) with not much more than standard power ??

I've broken 13 boxes.

2nd gear once and 3rd gear 12 times

1st gear has never been and issue. I do launch the car resonably often.

I have changed to Redline Shockproof (blue stuff) and had no gearbox failures since. I have learnt not to flat change 2nd to 3rd though. I always broke them on gear change.

Matt

Y would u bother continuing with stock gear boxes after breaking so many????

Os giken box is around $6000 set up can't imagine u got 13 standard boxes for less than that, is just cimon sense, if sumthings weak u use sumthing better

mehhh, 8k launchs all day long, i run semis on my car, 300rwkw.... its awesome fun see my sig for vid footage : D

nice, you still get a bit of wheel spin but not this bad, also for OP in car of launch, OS box so does nearly 100kph in 1st, lots of wheel spin=slow time

GTRpowa, Jim will tell you all about launches and broken boxes

BoostdR what clutch/clutches did you use with all those broken boxes, heavy singles?

Nicely done. I counted 11 seconds?

Yes yes....however

-I pay $100-300 a box

-I don't like the OS ratio's on the track

-I've worked out how not to break them ;)

Carbon single plate broke most of the boxes. Using a Nismo Gmax twin now.

shit $100-$300 so they were probably on there last legs anyway.

yeah know what you mean about OS ratios

to the earlier posts about upgraded drive trains- I'm running 700hp at the hubs, OS gearset, OS front lsd,, everything else standard, rear diff, drive shafts transfer, axles etc all good

are the heavy singles less forgiving on the box because I stripped a 2nd gear with one and not that much power

I done two main shaft bearings in my gearbox with 350-400rkw, but i have thrashed mine a fair bit and has done numerios launches, i think the solid centre OS Giken Triple Plate Clutch had a fair bit to do with it as it shock loads the main shaft alot. You should be fine with your power levels, just remember to take 3rd gear changes a lil bit slower as the synchro's can't handle it 8000rpm changes very well.

Awesome Tricstar gotta love the GTR launchs!!!

yeah I love launching 4 wheels, 1 event I did had 26 stages in 2 days and I launched every one of them, and every other chance I get

looks like you've got it sorted, do you put it in 2wd fo the burnout to warm the tyres up, in your sig, ( the beauty of the 32 ) ?

I don't think that clutch ( same one I use ) was intended for the standard box, and the solid centre wouldn't be helping

nah mate, just drop the rear wheels into the wet patch and side step it. Yea that was a mega fun nite, only prob was it was so hot, intake temp was 60deg by the time i got to the stage line, cars tuned for 18.5psi and i couldnt make anymore than 17 even if i turn up the boost controller after each run. the last run of the nite was the coolest but still 60deg intake temps, i went though my pfc hand control and bumped the timing up 6deg over the full map, which we all think is what got me under 12s. I wish it was a cooler night she would have goon just that lil bit quicker : D

Nah to slack to warm up tires got plenty of grip with 4x 285's on her, the gearbox i broke was out of an r32 gtr so not sure how old it was and what kind of life it had before i got it, i also wound up the torque split controller on the run it broke aswell, but that should not have affected it.

Hot night and you bumped the whole ignition map up 6 degrees? Youre probably very lucky it held together man, thats just silly? If it was safe, your tuner would have already done it!

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
