Hey Guys,

got an rb30 twin cam built and almost ready to drop into my car,

just wanna see if my turbo setup will be efficent enough for 400rwkw

i have a GT35 with T3 1.06 rear housing on a HKS split pulse top mount manifold.

i am using a T3-t4 adaptor plate that is around 1 inch thick.

my questions are;

will the T3 exhaust housing be restrictive?

i have someone that wants to buy my turbo should i sell it and buy the new GTX35 with t4 rear housing?

should i get a splut pulse exhaust housing to match my manifold? will if be better is these are matched?

or should i keep what i got?

Thanks in advance guys..

Dan

i had a t3 gt35r with a 1.06 rear on a etm manifold, made 670bhp @ the fly @2 bar boost. thats on a rb26/30 big cams and 8000rpm. that was its lot, we tuned boost up but no more power just heat..

Garrett didn't make a t4 twin scroll exh housing for the gt35, the only place that sells them (afaik) is ATP and the quality is questionable. That combined with the housing being so large it obscures most of the core so access to oil and water lines is very limited led to me selling mine.

Suggesting a gtx when initial results are less than promising might be leading the guy astray.

OP, the t3 1.06 should make 400rwkw assuming everything comes together but there are a lot of interesting developments in this size range so it might pay to hang tight and watch the results starting to roll in (gt/gtx/efr/precision).

I am looking a Borg Warner s366 turbo, can get one for a good price. only thing is there is not many people using them here in Aus.

in america they seem to be popular..

just worried it could be abit laggy..

specs are:

Twinscroll T4 flange V band out beveled 4.21" Full Marmon flange

.91 turbine a/r

Flows upto 80lbs/min

Supports upto 800hp

included: T4 mounting gasket and oil drain gasket

Turbine housing V band outlet can be machined down to a flat 4" upon request after purchase if desired

400rwkw on pump with 35r 1.06 is possible but most setups go just shy of there. Definately a good aim point. If you've got some higher octane fuel you'll get there probly over. I honesty think that the 35r is the perfect turbo for the RB30/26. If you want the twin scroll version get this with 1.00AR divided housing:

Forced performance turbos have never let me down for power and response.

I have the ATP twin scroll GT35R with 1.06 rear housing, check our Project Car thread for pictures of the set-up.

Should be on the dyno by the end of next week for its first run. Although its an RB25 it might give you an idea of what the turbo is capable of?

Thanks for replys guys,

car is a Silvia s14, managed to get the bonnet to close over the weekend have to re design sump ( Dry sump set up).

And am going to use E85 too.

But still pretty keen to swap for T4 housing.

What are you guys running on the intake side of things? OEM plenum and TBs? what size intercooler? standard Valve springs still?

im still running through hoops trying to crack 400kw on 98ron. im currently running a 75mm intercooler and suspect that it might be at its end. Saving the $$$ for a decent 100mm core.  any thouhgts?

my setup

rb26/30 + oem rb26 cams

gt35r .82 rear

3.5inch exhaust

power fc d jetro ecu

Everyone i have talked to has said you need at minimum a 100mm thick intercooler with 3" in and out.

OEM RB26 intake is fine as is

Valve springs may be an issue, see if you start to get float during tuning or change them now if you are worried

Hi Titan,

It does seem like that is the case. However what intercoolers do people recommend? There are a few 2nd hand old school TRUST drag intercoolers lying around for cheap but most of the new Plazmaman, Nismo, ect all ask upwards of $2000.

Im not one to be cheap but has anyone had experience with certain types of cores? And does anyone think a 2nd hand TRUST drag exhaust can still do the job?

Hey Jap_Muscle,

im going to be using a plazmaman intercooler, maybe give them a call and they can build one up probly cost you anywhere from $1500 - $1900

not sure how much your going to spend on a used trust cooler? $800 - $1000?

I had a long chat with Plazmaman a few months back about their intercooler designs and quality. They claim that they have the most efficient intercoolers in the world and would benchmark their products with anything. Bold statement never the less.

I do however have a TRUST 100mm drag cooler available for 500. But there is some pipework that needs to be done. How soon are u going to get yours all sorted out and tuned mate? Gt35r rb26/30?

Keep us posted

Im still about 6 - 8 months away, will defenly post some results when its done.

I doubt you'll get over 400rwkw with a 0.82 rear on pump. I would think that around 350rwkw would be maximum on pump with a 0.82rear.

As for intercoolers - The most thermally efficient cores I've seen are from process west. The plazmaman ones are close but process west are definately the best.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
