Bracketing up the pod is easy, I just grabbed some scrap ally I had laying around and used the jigsaw to cut two strips, drilled a hole in either end and bent to suit, used existing captive nuts that used to hold the airbox in.

lol not over here. as long as the pod is braced you'll be fine...

realistically it all comes down to "luck"

now when i say "luck" i REALLY mean that the department of transport vehicle examination centres are so grossly incompetent at creating any form of consistency in their dealings. that it all boils down to what operator you get and who you are.

for example - i try to get my soarer registered. i get smacked around by the f**k wit arse hole at warwick. that prick knocked me back for having "aftermarket suspension" (which i argued was NOT illegal) and the "doors don't open far enough" (wtf) and said my rear seat was missing a seatbelt - the seatbelt was fking there...

this stupid f**kwit arse hole prick then had the nerve to tell me that i need to "fix everything over night n bring it back to him n pay re-inspection"

got in my car in a bit of a huff and drove home. i actually cried at this point. i literally fking cried. after all the fk around i had got from that prick FRANK WANG at PERFORMANCE AND LUXURY AUTOMOTIVE and after he landed me in FEDERAL POLICE MATTERS THANKS TO HIS CORNER CUTTING ILLEGITIMATE BUSINESS AND FRAUDULENT EVIDCENCE PACKAGE.

and after CEVA CAR CARRYING TRANSPORT COMPANY BLEW UP MY OTHER CAR AND COOKED THE BATTERY AND BLEW UP THE MAIN $200 FUSE DUE TO THEIR NEGLEGENCE AND ABSENT CARE BY ARCING A BATTERY AND CROSSING THE TERMINALS OVER TO GIVE IT A CHARGE.

and after the royal FKOVER AND UNDER QUOTED OVER PRICED NAMBY PAMBY WORK THAT COST OVER 2 GRAND DONE BY THAT STUPID GREEDY WANKER BRIAN @ DOWNUNDER AUTO IN WANGARA. WHO I MIGHT ADD DID NOTHING ON THE CAR EXCEPT A FEW DODGY MESSY WELDS AND PUNCHED A NUMBER INTO A PLATE BIG FKING WHOOP YOU ARSE HOLE.

after getting pushed down to the ground by everyone and getting kicked everytime i tried to get up. i fking cried on my drive home. i don't cry over anything but this experience broke me to nothing.

ANYWAY. next day - sent my dad in the car up to Welshpool the next day. examiner laughed about it all and patted my dad on the back n said "you're orrite mate. off ya go"

oh right - they passed dad. then wouldn't let him register it. the counter knocked him back because an importation recept from my broker isn't proof of ownership. they needed "proof of prior ownership" even though it's a first point of australian registration... f**king morons. (jason this does not include you. you were sweet over the phone)

inconsistency. that's what they're about. you'll go to the pits at ANY given day. you'll see some arab / italian dude getting given an absolute REAMING in his VL walkinshaw.. then some dipshit hick will roll up in a 40 year old combi that's spewing white smoke. wearing a tie died tshirt and thongs looking like he's wearing joke shop teeth.

he'll get out and recognise his examiner from the local pub. they'll shake hands have a laugh have a chat and he'll drive away all smiles.

anyway. to answer your question..

i have never heard of anyone having ANY experience with the RAC... i believe the RAC do not TOUCH imports? my advice is, either make a booking at midland... or rock up at 6am at welshpool.

also - PRE PAY your inspection. you'll be glad you did. if you dont... just wait in the car in the queue and just ring from your mobile and make the payment over the phone - saves you waiting in the centre with the rest of the inbred scumbags.

oh by the way. disclaimer.

i know this post flames three companies and businesses and NAMES THEM which is not in line with SAU's taliban reigime of moderation. but fk it. i got burned so badly and so frequently by these arse holes that OTHER people deserve to know. =)

Mate really pains me reading this. Hope all is going well with the car now.

I too got screwed over by that FU(KWIT at Downunder Imports.

Bought my old r32 GTST in for a dump/front pipe to be made and for my cat back to be fitted with a high flow cat.

High flow cat = my old cat with a bigger flange welded on.

Front pipe then cost me double as he said he had to modify it to fit my crappy cat back system that.

Considering i was paying for a custom dump/front it should have been made to fit the first time so it didnt have to be modified.

When i refused to pay the extra my car was then raised up on the hoist, he pointed out how crap my car was and that he wouldnt let the car down until i paid.

Never went there again and will slag that prick off any chance i get

bubba - yeah i've heard midland is the goods. i know a dude near (our) houses that put his aristo through there with 18's and cat back on. said he was there not even five minutes haha just got waved through!

but that's exactly what im talking about bubba - your experience was inconsistent too cos your inspector liked skylines... same as when i was at warwick this guy got his camper waved through while missing a brake light cos the inspector liked camping... he was told "make sure ya get it fixed mate"

Simpy put, everything is shit.

A car that has a list as long as your arm at one RWC place, will pass with flying colours at the one next door.

The first copper that pulls you over in your bog stock N/A 33 could ping you for "suspicion of modifications", the next guy says "nice car have a good day".

A 400kw GTR can get driven on the street daily with a 150dba exhaust and every illegal mod available without any hassles for years, but the guy following him gets a defect for "too low" or a pod filter when the car sits 150mm off the ground at it's lowest point and has a factory airbox.

A P-plater in a GENIII commy with stockies on the back drives around for 4 years no hassles, but the other kid with a lancer and extractors loses his ticket for driving a "modified" vehicle.

The system in place is shit, there isn't a black and white anymore, just a humongous grey area that can make everyone miserable in the wrong circumstances, and even the people spending thousands with emissions testing and playing by the rules can still get hassled. FTW lol.

LOL its funny how so many people have had bad dealings with Down Under Autos. My brother brought his 1989 180sx from them in 2001 and never had 1 problem with them....

Mind you he didnt import, the vehicle was alrady landed complied and registered.

  • 1 year later...

I am heading in to midland pits tomorrow thanks to this thread, fingers, toes and balls all crossed that I pass in my v35, would love to find the skyline loving inspector and offer him a drive one day as a sweetener.

    • What bedding in procedure did you use?   When you say stutter, what exactly do you mean? Like it feels like someone letting go of the brakes momentarily and regrabbing them again to get you to stop? Re-reading your post, and that is what it kind of makes me think you're explaining, like theres a little bit of a jolt, likely just as you're reaching a stop. I've only had this issue once. And if its caused by what caused mine, you will want to get the car up on stands again and check it over. Mine was a case of a caliper mounting bolt coming out and letting the caliper rotate on the other remaining bolt and gave play in a wheel as it came to a stop. But not every stop either!
    • Yeop... binned it   This will be a summary will not many pics atm and cbf  Fixed the samsonas - it was totally munched Put a new precision 7675 T4 on with proper split pulse mani Got to Sydney to get to car - drove to canberra to get racecar - drive back to sydney that night Next day all day at Plasmaman putting on new clamps cleaning some things up and adding another large engine oil cooler sitting at the rear above diffuser to keep things cooler Next day - Tuesday - on Dyno - killer wikid awesome pumped out really good numbers - more mid range and on lower boost levels Wednesday - first prac - all day again getting the suspension right - had to borrow front suspension again - out do a lap come in - out do a lap - in - what i had just couldnt handle the load at the more consistent higher speeds - got a lap in at the end of the day that was pretty reasonable  Put it this way that lap wouldve had me in 4th in Pro am for the whole event - with only 700 hp and used tyres Thurs first official prac day - lap out warm up - then entered a hotlap with above setting and 80% effort took corners 1,2,3 and into 4 car felt awesome -  rear came around out of nowhere bang into the wall near front on at whatever 140 kmph Done, over, gone Just one of those how did that happen apparently as all indications show nothing out of the ordinary Got to spend the rest of the time at the event like I hadnt done before - was actually Ok mainly as I had my family and my boy is 9 and got treated like a rockstar Long trip home, lost a trailer wheel in nowhere land, X5 airbag suspension gave up half way across nullabour and rode on bumps stops (its now completely fine) had to do a 19 hr drive day on day 3 as accommodation got screwed up so just had to keep driving till found a town with some Now to reassess - hopefully the motor and other things are OK but yet to be seen too. There is no easy fix there is no i'll just order that part and get it sent - we'll have a talk to people see what can happen and what the go is but at minimum its rebuild from scratch struts forward and alot of time effort and $ should and if I return and if but maybe/ when  I have the cage tied into the front strut towers - if I didnt have that things couldnt been worse you can say its just a front end but if you know what goes into these cars... you'll know what that actually means in reality   Car was very fast. Disappointing we just didnt get to show it Effort doesnt win you races though     Apparently this is motorsport !
    • Thanks, will do that.  Thankfully they still feel great.
    • Yeah man, absolutely. You can try pushing me all the way in swapping the R34 for an E9x M3
    • It's almost certainly going to be some amount of pads compound transfer onto the rotors. It will probably go away after you've run them for a bit. If not, pull it all out, lightly sand the rotors, scuff the pads, and rebed.
