I've just removed an engine from a 1993 32 GTR to find it had a pull type gearbox. It is not a vspec but is a late 93. The oil pump has been replaced along with the water pump. Is there any other tell tail signs to if it's running a full face drive crank from looking from the outside? I don't want to pull the motor down if I don't have to as it is going to be put up for sale. Just seems a waste as the only reason we removed it was to fit a 33 motor.

Matt

Thanks in advance

u "shud" be able to tell by lookin directly at the front of the oil pump. if u can see a gap around the crank to oil pump its early.

So I pull the harmonic and timing cog off.. Can you elaborate on this gap? The motor has a N1 oil pump on it now.

Actually I think I know what you mean. There will be a gap on a half face crank as the flat bit of the drive doesn't extend right out to the edge of the pump. Should be pretty easy to tell.

I will have a look and put some pics up.

Cheers

Matt

im pretty sure i could tell mine. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/154710-rb26-32-or-33-crank/page__hl__collar

the d shaped drive on this crank would be half as long on an early 1. also u will see it being round inside the pump instead of following the correct profile.

i've heard (but can't prove) all R32's had the same crank collar, could be wrong as both opinions are floating about. If you still have the old oil pump you should be able to see the wear marks from the crank collar on the inside drive surface. If the crank's a short nose you'll see the mark goes in about 5-7mm , a long nose would produce a (substantially) longer mark. Would save popping the seal.

Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
