Hi all! Name is Viet, just got an m35 stagea 2weeks ago but its got some minor problems.

My faint engine light keeps appearing even after ressetting the ecu, it comes up with code 0171 which i believe is left bank lean. I notice that my car drinks alot (18l/100km) so im suspecting the o2 sensor which from nissan is $160 with a 2 week wait.

Also notice that on my stock exhaust only the left tip is working, the right is clean.

Does anyone know if the skyline v35 o2 sensor can be used and also if the v35 nav unit will work in my stagea as it was missing from purchased?

Having a hard time of finding basic servicing information as in:

Oil used, how many litres to fill up?

Oil filter part number?

Spark plug number and gapping?

Transmission fluid and capacity?

Diff fluid and capacity?

Also would the arx shocks and springs fit my stagea? Ive got rsr springs atm and i go fishing alot so doesnt clear the dirt roads.

Thanks you advance!

If anyone lives in the western surburbs of melbounre and would like meet up please pm me, would love to learn more about these cars!

4wd fluid and capacity how to bleed?

OK, I'll bite. Can't give all the answers but some of them.

Don't worry, it opens up when you give it a boot full. the exhaust is variable and contains a pressure flap inside.

1) don't know 2)the Nav function will never work as its Jap only. Buy a UBD. it would be a lot of work to get the shit in there.

Oil used, how many litres to fill up?

4.8 or something like that - most of us are lazy and just dump a 5 litre bottle in.

Oil filter part number?

I can't be assed going downstairs and looking - just ask for something from a 03 350Z you'll get the right one. its fits a shitload of nissan cars.

Spark plug number and gapping?

Different people have had different experiences. Have a search on the site.

Transmission fluid and capacity?

Nissan Matic J, or Nulon 100% sythn seems to be the other proven performer. about 8.5 litres - remember you have to flush it not just drop the Pan, that'll only get about 4 litres.

Diff fluid and capacity?

Redline shockproof - about 1 L per diff I think. Use good quality cause you don't want to change it for a long time...

Also would the arx shocks and springs fit my stagea? Ive got rsr springs atm and i go fishing alot so doesnt clear the dirt roads.

Don't know. should have bought an ARX.... Might be the worlds only Raised Stagea!

4wd fluid and capacity how to bleed?

Nissan Matic D / ????

Hope that helps you to some extent.

I'll let the other guys handle the error message- I have my own thoughts but they are more experienced.

The ARX springs will get you a little more lift, I didnt swap my shocks over but I've got ARX springs in; with Nismo springs my front lip was 8cm off the ground.. Looked AWESOME but killed me in terms of functionality. Im now somewhere around 15cm off the ground at the front. So if you need some height and can source the springs, do it thumbsup.gif

I've got a set of factory ARX springs and shocks in storage if you must go higher. But I recommend lowering of the RS/RX for bitumen and finding a ute for fishing.

I know what you mean about the exhaust tips. I didn't realise until now that the Calsonic has a pressure flap - clever. I just thought mine was always blocked .pinch.gif

Agree with everything PN-Mad mentioned. I replaced my transfer case and Attesa fluids and there is lots of good info on how to do it with the search. Both fairly easy but I needed an extra hand with bleeding the Attesa pump.

Hey Gazza,

Did you replace your ARX suspension with BC's ?

How is the ride now?

Replaced the shocks with Bilsteins and the springs with original-height (ARX) King Springs heavy duty. However, I've recently seen a heap of lowered ARX and they do look better - even with the flared guards. I just find the tailgate doesn't open high enough so at the time decided against lowering.

The ride is firmer but still comfortable. It just suffers now from the factory sway bars but Dale will soon sort this out with the Whitelines.

    • Can't you put the pistons to TDC and then do the valve seals? Or will the drop down too far to pull them back up?
    • One thing I can tell you is, do it properly the first time. If you encounter unexpected problems just let the car sit for a week or two if you have to get some other parts or figure stuff out.  I'd have said go and use as many OEM parts as possible but since you want to change the turbo later on a custom kit is probably the better choice. Since I have no experience with RB25 just compare parts diagrams and images before buying a line kit and it should be easy to see if it has everything you need. Amayama has very good parts diagrams and part number lists, that is what I used a bunch to figure out what I might need. And don't forget to plan ahead and possibly renew other stuff that's easy to get to while you're in there doing the turbo lines. Happy wrenching
    • Update 4:   Hi all, good news. Engine is running and all the gaskets and seals seem to be working as intended. No leaks so far, even the JB Weld seems to hold. I flushed out the old coolant a few times and put in fresh coolant, not Nissan stuff, I decided to try the Ravenol Protect FL22, they claim it works for a wide variety of JDM cars and the opinions on it by some people were pretty good. And it has the nice poison green color! And man am I glad I bought a coolant system tester earlier this year, vacuum filling works wonders on this engine. I can definitely recommend this to anyone still doing it the old school way. All you need is compressed air supply. Will have to do a small test drive as soon as I can, I removed the gauge cluster again as the tacho needle was still bouncing around a bit but it was much better than before already.  I also found some cracks on all 4 tires inner and outer sidewalls. Apparently these tires should 't be parked on for extended periods or be kept under 0 degrees during storage, which I did not know. Clearly the previous owner didn't look into those details either, he probably bought them just cause they are cool semi-slicks. I'm just wondering how tf I am supposed to reach 30-80 degree tire temperatures on the public road consistenly, these tires were never going to work for my use case. I'll probably order Continental SportContact7 ones as these are the best allround summer tire available right now and I don't think I'll need anything crazier for now. Do let me know if you have experience with various tires and which ones you recommend.
    • You have no idea how many goddamn boxes I received these past three months haha Most have been put to use by now though, luckily
    • Not going to pretend I didn't do a bit of junky work this time around, but mostly due to the fact that some things I am not willing to spend days fixing right now, like wiring. I try to do most things properly the first time around.
