Hi guys.

Tyres are for a r34 25gt 2000 model (old tyres are Strata - they don't seem to sell these anymore).

Most likely get a set tomorrow (maybe Nankang or Maxxis). Any help or other relevant suggestions would be much appreciated. Looking for the aggressive look, directional tread pattern type.

Thanks heaps ;)

Well all depends on your budget and I know for a fact nankang's are crap tyres. Had a very bad experience with those. As for the Maxxis, I'm not too sure on. I stick with either bridgestone adrenaline's or Re050's.

No real budget - willing to pay for quality. What make do you currently have on yours?

Bad experience..what happened? Thanks :)

Budget is big deciding factor...if budget is no problem then look at:

Michelin Pilot Sport 3

Continental Sport Contact

Bridgestone RE050

BF Goodridge Profiler (aggressive directional look)

On a budget (these won't perform as well in the wet but are still a decent dry tyre):

Federal 595 (aggressive directional look)

Kumho KU31

i run 595rs r semi on the front got them for $200 bucks each or ku36s are the same price, great tyres could go them all round but i run federal 595 steelies for the rear and they have lasted more then 35000 km out of them and still got a fair amount of tread left on them, as they guys said though depends on your budget but this is a good budget option that doesnt compromise peformance

lol... neither of those...

what's the budget?

? are they that bad? That's what I was recommended, I guess they went off what tyres were already on the car when I bought it. No real budget, but say max $400-500 (per tyre).

Cool - thanks Birds, hope all is well ;)

for $400 per corner in a 235/45/27 (this size is more common and hence cheaper than a 225) there are heaps of options

what do you do with the car? just for daily and cruising? or do you push it a bit?

RSR's are good but not good in the wet. If its his daily I wouldn't recommend them. I run them all round.

$450-500 / tyre is a pretty good budget...plenty of choice there :)

There's a sticky on tyres in this section of the forum.

With that budget you can get some seriously awesome tyres. As long as you don't mind spending less, say around $300 per tyre, try Michelin Pilot Sport 3. I just fitted 4 of them to my Soarer for around $1200 (that was 235/40/18, so your size would be cheaper) and they are very good. Plenty of grip and no road noise. Standard equipment on a few euro performance-luxury cars. But really, with tyres you tend to get what you pay for...as long as the place isn't a rip off, spending $300+ a corner will get you very good tyres.

All is well :)

It's my daily so I generally take it pretty easy. Although one of the guys at Bob Jane assumed the wear on one of my tyres was due to drifting, lol..who knows maybe I'm a drifter and just don't know it :P

Thanks for all the valuable info guys, you're the best ;)

I run KU31's on my car but then again I'm running 285's all arond. They are a good budget tyre. If your willing to spend then yokohama advan's or even pirelli pzero's are great but as also mentioned above from Birds, those tyres are a good recommendation. As for my bad experience, I lost control of my evo 7 around a corner in the wet driving normal (speed limit) which normally seems impossible with an AWD car that has ACD system. Fortunately no damages done or injuries.

I have KU31 on the rears in 18/265. They rock!! I have federal something somethings at the front in a 235. They seem pretty good too.

The other day i locked up coming down a hill in the rain, as some doofus pulled out of a driveway right in front of me. The federals did well to maintain some grip while sliding. I was even able to steer through the tiny gap between the doofus and a parked car.

The nankangs that came on the car when i first bought it would have landed me into his rear quarter for sure. They were horrible in the wet.

There are other options as well.

The Dunlops that come factory on XR6 Turbos are an EXCELLENT choice for the price. In a R34 that is lighter and has less power, it's a very good combination. I had them for a while a few years back (older generation). In the daily driver/cheap spec there are many options.

IMO you don't need to go over $200-250 a corner these days in 17's for a good compromise.

If you are prepared to wait, order them outta the US and you'll be able to get $300 AUD tyres, for $200 AUD - simply because they are SO much cheaper outta the US. As it'll be uner $1000... You also avoid tax.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
