Hey guys looking at upgrading turbo and just wondering If anyone has used a td05 setup on a rb20? Some power results with similar mods to mine would be great,

Splitfire coilpacks

550cc injectors

Z32 afm

Bosch 040

Nisstune

Cheers in advance - Trent

Which TD05? I have often wondered what a TD05-18G on a 6boost manifold with external gate wold do on an RB20. I am expecting you woudl get 240-250rwkws with response about the same as a 2530. I keep my out for one as it will be a bolt on to my current TD06-20G setup...would be interesting to trade 30rwkws for response...the question is what sort of response would i gain.

So, cant help with actual results but I think it would be a pretty good setup if you can justify the expense of the $1200 manifold and $500 gate on top of turbo price

Yeah I was thinking 18 or 20 g, which is about $700-800 delivered, which I think are internally gated anyway? The cost all up I think I could justify for good reponse and 250rwkw, might have to look more into it I think

Search for Kando Dynamics on EBAY, thats where you get the said item for $800ish.

As for a TD05, take an evo into consideration. 2L 4pot that can do up to 240awkw on a TD05 16G with boost coming on before 3000 and revving to an easy 8000.

If I was doing an RB20 and could afford a custom manifold, I would grab an actual stock evo twin scroll turbo, from an evo 5,6 or 9 (they have a 10.5cm housing) and would get it fitted up. If it ended up not enough power you can have GTPumps fit it with 18 or 20g compressors OR you could sell the item and get a Kando Dynamic bolt on replacement.

I anticipate you could take care of the whole job for under $3k.

By the way I found a new td05 kit to suit a sr20det as a direct replacement for a t28. My question (may be a stupid question but a question non the less) is would this be a direct swap on a rb20?

  • 11 months later...

Had a td05 20g on my 20det with all the supporting mods, full boost I think from memory was 3800 - 4000ish rpm and pulled farking hard to redline. Don't have dyno sheets but was safe tuned around 18 - 19psi, 320hp and around 700nm of torque.. They are a good lil turbos but the td06 20g is much better if you can wait that extra few more hundred rpm..Lag isn't all as bad as some people make it out to be....

    • Yeah, playing with naturally aspirated is not smart bang for your buck power wise, but then I've never been known for being smart when it comes to cars and modifications
    • I mean from V8 world there are gains to be made in intakes and such over stock items, but definitely only if you tune them. We're talking about I dunno, 10kw here and there on a 300KW v8, gains made by tuning in the 0.2 AFR that it changes so YES but also no you won't notice it other than the sound. Duct the air as mentioned 750,000 times and you will notice happier IAT's which definitely make a difference N/A. I mean my unsubstantiated guess is you'd go from 140kw with everything stock (after cams) to 145kw with everything and a tune :p
    • I decided to "spend baby spend", and "risk it for the biscuit" 2 Orders were made buying parts that I "don't really need but really really want" totalling $2.5k AUD 1: In stock items (intake plenum and throttle body) 2: The airbox thingie, with no real ETA for them getting more stock, so patience will be required
    • Any further updates on experiences with them? Anyone installed one with a getrag here as yet?
