Can't say for certain which turbo they are without pictures, it can be any of these (but GT25 housing and 0.6 compressor AR narrows it down to -5's or -10s): http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tbroom/Turbos.htm

So if i buy a Garrett -5 ( GT2860R - 707160 - 5 ) What numbers will i see on the id tag?

It seems like that number the op stated is the chra number?

Can somebody help me with this tag number as it is not listed on Garrett site>

780371-5001

0.42 a/r comp

I would really like to know exactly whats numbers are on the id tags of -5,-7,-9

Pics???

707160 - 5

Or similar. The numbers are exactly as they appear.

I dont think i have any pics of my -9s or -5s, but the numbers were the same either way

There are a couple extra as well. Some other code no doubt

-9s

http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/catelog/Turbochargers/GT28/GT2859R_780371_1.htm

with actuators

http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/catelog/Turbochargers/GT28/GT2859R_707160_9.htm

without actuators

Ok so let me get this straight.....

-9 will have> 707160 - 9 on the tag

-1 will have> 780371 - 1 on the tag

-5 will have> 707160 - 5 on the tag

-7 will have> 707160 - 7 on the tag

So why does that turbo (780371-5001) have four numbers after the dash??......isnt it supposed to be a standard labeling? WTF is it ? as it doesnt match anything on the list

-9s is what you need to refer to them as, a long time -9s only came without actuators (which the others came with), it was only recently garrett decided to start offering actuators so came 780371-1.

the 500 bit is added by garrett dealers, I know my -9s were referred to as 707160-0009 by the dealer (pretty im sure thats what my id tag said also, that or 0009 was 5009).

So that turbo (780371-5001) is 101% a -9 but with actuators right?.....its just the 5001 part is strange to me as most do not refer to it as that, but instead just the last digit, -1

Well guess what...I asked the Garrett dist. here to get either the 707160 - 9 or the 780371 - 1 for me.... he told me those units were on back order from garrett and all he had in stock was one -7

So i decided to give him a visit and have a look at the unit and low and behold on the id tag was 780371-5001.....It didnt click to me immediately either because as i said the 500 part confused me somewhat but he still claims it is a -7 :O......so i guess that means i will be paying -7 price

Anyway he says he will be able to get a next unit like that for me but quoted me the same number but with a "S" on the end ( 780371-5001S ).....

Will this be the same exact unit even though it has the S at the end of the number???.... the one he has now doesnt have the S.

Yea...i read that too, but i dont see the "S" on any part number beside the GT2860RS on their web site

I really dont like the idea of pairing them either, but if they are indeed two seperate units that means now there is a unit out there that is esentially a -9 but is capable of flowing a little more

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
