obviously you dont know much better than me if your post sounds just like mine...wen u mention AFM problem??!....you need to relax !! if you kno more than a professional import mechanic i apologise.. if you dont maybe you should get off ur hi- horse and chill. Dude y would he freak out geezzzz ... I just wanted to suggest he get his tuner to check it out first rather than him spending $ on uneeded shit...and then then you start having a cry ...

Seriously are you like 16 years old? You are not txting your boyfriend so type proper english FFS.

An afm failing will show similar symptoms of what he described. As will a number of other things including those allready mentioned. Do you even know how an AFM works? Without physically seeing a car and knowing all the details it is semi guess work trying to give advice. Hence why I also seperately asked about the smoke out of the exhaust. Would give more clues without physically seeing the car.

You make it seem like every mechanic is an expert. Sorry but no. I would take advice from the forum before taking the advice of most mechanics. Given that there are only a handful of speciality Skyline mechanics in Australia that actually know their stuff and most are on these forums anyway. Given that he has a stock ECU I doubt he has his own tuner.

Who said he was going to spend money? He asked for advice, not "what do I need to buy?". Swapping over an AFM with some one elses is a 5 minute job and doesn't cost you a cent. Checking the BOV also doesn't cost you a cent and takes 5 minutes.

you say "This type of attitude on here will not get you far" ....ahahhaahahhahahahahhahaaha thats priceless dunno wat in helll u mean by this but maybe your just having a BAD DAY..i think you have the attitude issue mate i love my skyline and respect all nissan fans ... thats my attitude!!!!

:w00t: BOOOOOMMMM!!! ......n yehh its like that!!! maybe this will cheer you up a bit  aahaha :thanks:

You act like a child, appear to be unintelligent, have a stupid user name, have been on the forums for less than a month, are starting shit with some one that has been on here and knows about Skylines a hell of a lot more than you and start mentioning forum users as e-mechanics when most of them on here are proper import mechanics, engineers (like myself), tuners or just highly motivated car lovers that enjoy doing every thing them selves.

It is YOU that needs to chill and get off his high horse. Your the one that arked up because I called you on your lack of knowledge of what an 02 sensor does. Get over it and grow up.

Righteo well that definetely points towards an intake leak.

While the car is idling just put your fingers around the blow off valve and you should be able to feel the leak. For the idle to jump up and down as much as it is it should be fairly easy to feel the leak.

Im not a engineer like yourself but am highly motivated car lover Ive had my skyline for 6years now and ive done alot to it myself so im not stupid as you are suggesting i am...iv used many tutorials that have been a great help in replacing afm, break pads, oil and oil filter, bov, pod enclosure, battery, boost gauge, stereo, vacumme lines etc. My tuner is great mate he owns a turbo and dyno shop in brisbane so I am 100% He would kno his shit and could find the problem straight up. Thats what i meant by "pro"...i never mentioned a normal mechanic would do. Its great when the help you ask for works but when it backfires you can only blame yourself for taking advice from a complete stranger.

Dont make this personal and start taking chips out of me ...Seems you got urself offended by taking things out of context. Im over trying to explain myself.

next time if you got nothing positive to say about someone dont.... and LOL at urself for spinning up a tornado out of a fart...

OK so thought I had fixed it but after driving for about 20 mins the same thing happened and its back to the rough idling, not sure if tightening that was a coincidence or not now.

I guess next test will be swapping the afm. Can i test using one from an R34?

get a consult cable before you go replacing sensors, it will tell you if they are dead most the time, most tuners should have one and I'm sure they would happily plug it and run a scan in for a small fee if you asked.

well i was just going to swap one from an r34 to test if it fixes the issue

some others mentioned testing for vacuum leaks whats the best way to go about this?

are u sure the same clamp hasn't just come loose again? water and some soapy water in a spray bottle for boost leak hunting

yeah i thought that as well one of the clamps looks a bit dodgy but i re-tightened it to no effect

ima try the soapy water now cheers

You should be able to feel and hear any sort of vacuum leak so just stick your head in the engine bay and have a good listen and use your fingers to feel the suction if you are suspicious of an area.

Yeah when it starts the wavering idle I can hear a tshhh tshhh sound in time with the revs but cant pinpoint it. I'll give it another go tomorrow.

    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
