I was the second of three cars stopped at a red light. The car in front of me moved away and (without indicating, incidentally) turned left, then stopped abruptly. I'm not sure why, I couldn't see past it (it was a big trayback 4wd), but I assume it was for a pedestrian. Anyway, I stopped with plenty of room to spare, but the nimrod behind me wasn't watching where he was going and was still on the throttle, and ran into the back of my car.

Result: A quoted $1500 in repairs, including a new rear bar, reinforcement and work to the beaver panel. Friggen hell.

Initially I thought I was up for a battle, but thankfully the other driver finally admitted fault, after it was pointed out that a) I was stopped, B) he hit the back of me, c) he was, by his own admission, looking at his daughter who was in the back seat at the time, and d) the whole thing would be on tape as it happened in front of a service station. The police didn't seem to convinced of his version of events either, because every time they spoke to him he had a different story.

There were a few amusing moments though. One was trying to explain the button clutch. No matter how hard he looked, he couldn't find it, despite paying special attention to the dash and the centre console... after finally getting it through to him, he reckons I don't need a racing clutch because my car is 'bone stock'. I said 'how the hell would you know?', and he triumphantly replied that he's a mechanic, he knows these things. I pissed myself laughing about then, asked him about the x-ray vision he obviously has to see through my closed bonnet, and pointed at the exhaust he'd just run into, the wheels and suspension, the FMIC, etc. Then he said 'You were driving like a farking idiot mate!!' to which I replied 'er... I was stopped you tool...' even the cops had a bit of a giggle :D :slap:

In hindsight, I think he was just trying to intimidate me, make me back down etc because he knew he was in the wrong and would have to pay for the damage unless he could force me into a mistake. He kept trying to get me to 'admit' that I'd somehow caused the acco, even though he wasn't even looking out of his windscreen at the time. Moral of the story: stand your ground, tell the truth and pay particular attention to everything the other driver says, even if it means recording or taking notes. They may well say something that will speed up the process of getting your car fixed.

As if it could end any other way, he ran into the back of you.... the only way it could be your fault would be if you were reversing.

It is shit, that you have to go through all the hassles because one tosser won't admit he was in the wrong when he plainly is.

Glad you got his insurance to pay up

Arghhhh... that's some bad luck Marc... How long till it's fixed? I assume the other driver was insured?

I clicked on your website and realised I'd seen it before! I worked with Craig (Big J) for 18 months and spent many a night marvelling at his rotor... I've also met Jimbo before through Craig... Small world eh?

And MJ, I hereby crown you... "Island Girl" :D

Holy shit man, a small world indeed :) I used to work at PA with Chris McV too, tell him I said hello :) I haven't actually seen Craig in a while, I've been meaning to catch up with him. Should get some more pics of the car too. But yeah, 12.6 non-turbo isn't too shabby! Jimbo's sold the MX6 and now drives around in a S6 RX7, which is a bit of an upgrade!

Still not too sure how long exactly until it's fixed. Yes, his insurance company will be paying for the whole thing, but of course that means I have to take my car to them for assessment, then they quibble the fact that it had a slight scratch here or there etc but I'm hoping to have it back in one piece by next week.

Actually, if it had to happen at all, this couldn't have been timed much better. I've just finished working at Warwick (and Toowoomba... and Goondiwindi... etc) so I don't *need* the car as much, and I bought a PowerFC a few weeks ago, so the panel shop will only be getting 2000rpm to play with, hehe. Still pissed off with it all though.

Heh!

I will pass ur regards on to CMCV... He's on holidays ATM but seems to be enjoying his time at the Gold Coast...

I was there the night Craig did the 12.6... Was most impressive for a N/A! That was Jimbos parents S6 wasn't it? Does he still have the Sooby??

Arghh @ insurance companys... Just stand your ground as demonstrated above :) and you'll be fine!!

Were you out west for work?? What project??

Jimbo bought the S6, but yeah it used to be his mum's (!). It's copped a new coat of paint since then, looks much tidier now. He sold the Leone to a guy on PF, who I hear is treating it nicely and has run a mid 14 after sorting the Microtech.

I wasn't on a project, though I did do a fair bit of work with the SOE/FPM guys, I just kept getting moved around. After leaving PA, I was in Northern Downs for a couple of months, Toowoomba for about 18 months, Roma for 2 months, back in Toowoomba for 6 months, then out to Southern Downs for a few months with the occasional trip out to Charleville... argh. I was never home... I got sick of it, and am now working for myself full-time :) I did get to see a fair bit of the Qld outback though, lol

:wavey: @ the island twins...

It only hurts the first time Ska... Was that why you mounted the island? Too busy worrying about me catching you in the rear view to avoid the ONLY island in a 10k radius? :)

I hear MJ only mounted the island cause he wanted to be just like you Ska! Black bonnet, island mounting, next thing he'll be spending his weekend dressed in a skirt and hitting the old man pubs with you! Roundabout? What roundabout? :)

But seriously... Get a room ladies!!! :boobies2:

Hehe tell me about it, what a debacle... Toowoomba was "fun" when all that rolled through

I have to agree, it's nice to visit out west, but I couldn't see myself living out there for any extended period. Mind you I lived in Toowoomba during the week for two years, which I actually enjoyed, though I headed back home for the weekends. And that meant that I could go back up the range on the bike, woohoo

Hehe nah man, not this time :) I was probably about due for another acco, it'd been a couple of years, and noone seems to pay attention to their driving in Ipswich.

Farkin spewing though, that's the second time the 33 has been hit up the bum in the 4 years I've had it, both times I was completely stopped, both times the driver wasn't looking out the windscreen, neither time has been my fault, both times I've been unable to drive my car in the rain for fear of the boot not sealing, and both times I've had to suffer the inconvenience and frustration of being without my car. Mes was pretty cool about it though, at least he didn't go accusing me of being at fault when it's blatantly obvious I wasn't, unlike this latest fudgepoker did originally...

    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
