10k for a manual gtt, this is a new low...

feel sorry for the r34 owners out there considering selling now...

worst yet, r33 and r32 owners... the market has really hit an all time low for skylines...

as soon as the P plater laws changed I thought it was gonna get tough to sell, as that was the biggest part of the market...

Yeah, if I had the time to sell then I would have left it around $13,000 but unfortunately I ran out of time and got desperate :(

I was happy to pay a bit more for mine purely because it is what I wanted... So hopefully there are other people out there like me who will pay more for what they consider good :P

You're pretty awesome... sorry my car wasn't "considered good". hahahaha.

Hopefully I'll get a cheap 32 if the mrs allows so I'll be on the other end hunting around for a skyline.

I dont know what you were expecting.... a whole bunch of guys with no cash, and no plans to buy your car saying that its cheap at the price you had it for means nothing.... if it was that cheap and they thought you would get the cash you wanted someone could have made a few thousand dollars off you quite easily...... but they didnt

For the price you were asking you could pick a cheap R32 GTR, and for a few thousand dollars more a buyer could pick up an R33 GTR. What do these have to do with the price of your car your probably asking..... people would rather be seen in a GTR than a GTT and would look at a GTR before they look at your GTT.

Its also been said before but 1) the market is flooded with Skylines, so much so they are more common than the Gemini was many years ago and most Skylines are very similar in spec which means there are plenty of others out there to choose from. 2) P platers cant drive them, so there goes a big chunk of your market. 3) defects, imports are a cop magnet and people are aware of just how hard it is to clear a defect. A lot of people know someone who has a horror story and it turns people off the car. Try finding a stock exhaust for your car in a hurry to clear a defect. Nobody will lend it to you, let alone sell you one, because they are worth their weight in gold. And once defected you are pretty much stuck with needing a stock exhaust as being caught twice for noise isnt just a fine anymore.....

I honestly pity anyone that needs to sell a Skyline these days. About 4 years ago I had a customer who had the neatest R33 series 2 i had ever laid eyes on, and given i worked for Advan i had seen LOTS of them. This car was spotless. Inside and out, from top to bottom, i could not fault this car. He had done every major service item as soon as he bought it and had our log books and receipts to show it. It was pretty much stock apart from a Trust Airinx filter and PE II cat back that we had fitted. He couldnt sell it. He wanted $20k to start with and ended up parting with it for $14k. And even then it took him a good 6 months to sell it

They arent worth what people want for them. They are worth what someone is willing to pay, and today that aint jack all.

I say you were lucky to get $10k for it.

Raised a similar discussion some months ago when I was looking at buying my now r34. It gets me a little worried that one day I will be looking to sell my car, and will be stuck with something I paid decent money for that is now worth f all. A guy offered me what I paid for it the other day, and I was quick to brush it off. After reading this thread (my car has half the k's of op's) I start to think that i've had my fun with it, even though I still love the car maybe its not such a bad idea to sell it now and lose nothing.

With that being said I am hoping that the market is a little better in a few years time when I am looking to sell. Although, i'm finding it hard to remain optimistic

What attracted the tightasses was advertising it on boostcruising and hardtuned, I've learnt my lesson. It's either carsales or here, and even then you'll still get a couple of cheapskates.

But all in all definitely not as bad as what you've explained. If I had the time to sell, someone would have eventually come along at $12k - $13k.

With all the laws being imposed on modified cars/younger drivers now i can only see the value of these types of cars falling even more.

What was the offer sonnyQ? I know you said its what you paid, but what was the dollar? I would say sell it no before you lose anything on it.

The only cars i see going up in value lately are classic, metal bumper type cars. I know people are still getting good money on anything older. ie 30 year old muscle type cars. Rotaries, Mustangs, Chev's, GT's etc and i think thats because they appeal to an older crowd who are willing to spend some cash on them. I had an RX3 up until about 4 weeks ago and i shit you not it sold in less than 24 hours for more than i had paid for it 18 months earlier :D

They may have been low ball offers to you, but to me it gives you an idea of the dollar you should expect to get for it. If you had no genuine offers in the price range you were willing to part with it for then it means that there is nobody interested in buying your car.

I know i do the same thing. If the car is something semi appealing i will make a low ball offer with hopes they will sell, and thats normally done over email. If its something i want, i will ring the guy and go inspect it ASAP and offer a dollar that i am comfortable spending. Thats not before i take into account everything i would need/want to spend on it to make it my car, or repair what i dont like.

You say 'someone would have eventually come along at $12k - $13k', its all well and good to say, but how long are you willing to wait.... for all you know it could have taken another 12 months. Quite often the best offer is the first one you get, and not selling for the sake of a couple of grand is quite silly. I have learnt this lessen the hard way.... I advertised a car for a ridiculous $25k, got an instant offer of $19k and laughed it off. Sold the car 12 months later for $12k. I will never know if the $19k was genuine as i turned the guy down, but i can only say i am stupid for not even considering it

I am trying to sell a Civic right now, i think its fairly well priced but the fact i havent had one call tells me i am asking a ridiculous price for it. If it was priced half decently i would have had at least one call but i havent.... i am not prepared to part with it for nothing so i am just going to keep it as a second car and drive it till it stops. Its a 2007 model with 106000k's and 12 months rego. I am after $13k for it but the market is telling me i should be asking more like $10k which is why i will keep it. Its just not worth selling for that dollar as its a great car and i dont need to sell it.

here's the thing right.

it's a car.

there are thousands of them around.

your car (insert car here) that you are trying to sell is worth whatever I (the buyer) has/wants to spend.

if you loved the car so much, it wouldn't be up for sale.

but your wedding/mortgage/operation or whatever your reason is for selling it is more important to you than your car.

Islade - your car is a 93 model series 1 R33 (which if I recall was auto when you came and bought those wheels off me years ago).

it looks like you've spent a small fortune on it.

To me it's worth about the same as any other clean series 1.

actually, I wouldn't buy a orange car so I wouldn't even make an offer..

and there is the problem for you.

your car is the colour a P plater would love.. it has the "hey look at me" feel to it.

If your car was White or Black and everything else as it is now, then perhaps $7K would be max I'd pay since it has GTR interior.

There is ALWAYS someone more desperate to sell their car than you.

Since Jay sold his for $10K, I'm going to hassle every R34 owner trying to sell their car for high teens to reduce it if they want to sell.

same goes for S15s and Series 2 R33s.

Lol - there is some guy trying to sell his 93 R32 gtst with 165,000kms for $12.5K?

it must be advertised cause his missus wants him to sell it and he can say "see honey - noone want sto buy it"

I offered a guy 19k for his 34 about a month ago... He said 'when I get time'...

I never bought it because he took too long, and he doesn't care. He will just wait for another person to pay the price he wants

Not everyone is in the same boat as Jay who desperately needed to sell his car.... and not all buyers are looking for the cheapest car on the market

Yeah.. I'm working on a 2001 Pewter S15 at the moment. :D

I sold my '02 Pewter S15 in April for $17,500

It was a ADM delivered GT tho in mint condition...

Also owned it since new, so thats top end of the S15 market...

But i was the cheapest ADM S15 GT manual on carsales and had great difficulty getting bites...

Cant imagine what the guy wanting 40k for his was thinking... :P

Also there were a bunch at 25-30k (dreaming)

If you wanta sell you have to "met the market"...

This is how I felt about the R34 GTR market when i bought my SS...

I was not willing to pay $60k for a 10 year old car with 100,000kms on the clock... So I bought a brand new V8 Holden...

This was the best new car ive ever owned, sold it for $12k less than i bought it for and did 75,000km in it in 3 years... thats a great deal for me...

People bag out ford and holden but the truth is their easy to sell and for the km's I do per annum their very cost effective...

Im a little scared of what my lexus will be worth 1st Juky next year when i upgrade again... The luxury market is a hard one to measure... >_<

The R35 market is already showing weakness, $92k for a 2009 ADM here in Brisbane with 14,000km on the clock (now thats tearing up money)...

It sold in 48 hours, which shows if you met the market it will sell quickly...

with the market the way it is, id jump on carsales and spend 20 minutes finding all the cars that match your description.

flag them and watch them for a week or two and see which ones sell (or price repositions).

If you are motivated to sell, then go in near the bottom of the price scale.

(simple example only, ignore figures)

ie. you find cars like your ranging from $10k to 18k and there are a few dreamers over 20k still.

Id position around the $13k mark with "negotiable" or "ono"...

So apply this rule to your car and see what you come up with...

If your too far from the bottom price for year/kms/condition then you'll never get a call...

On the other hand too cheap can scare people away also, so you need to remain competitive...

You always need to position low to med... this applys to all things retail also...

the rule never goes wrong, the majority of sales are low to mid price range for any particular product... :D

Its a great market if your selling import NA anything, its pretty much name your price if the car is low ks, mint body and manual. Body kit, wheels and paint increase value and sale capability even further.....

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
