Hey Guys

I was wondering if they're a good investment and will help with the slow and sometimes rough shifting in early models V35s especially the 250GTs.

Came across these on eBay :

Grounding Kit

Shift Kit

What do you think?

the grounding kit isn't worth paying for. if you think the stock grounding wires aren't up to the task muck up your own with wire from your local autoparts store.

as for the shift kit, well it will increase the speed of the shifting, but it won't make it smoother. generally you end up with a more sudden, rougher shift. this also puts more stress on the drive shaft, etc. if the car is for everyday driving then i'd stick with the stock setup, and if it's not behaving that well then maybe look at getting it serviced by an automatics workshop.

Ok, then the shift kit probably isn't what i'm looking for. Thanks for that!

I've heard good reviews on the grounding kits though. It makes sense in a way that after a while, the stock grounding wires just doesn't perform as well anymore. Some people swear by the changes felt after installing a kit, placebo?

Go the shift kit, you wont be disappointed especially if you plan more mods down the track.

As our cars back off the timing during shifts it wont be too harsh, it will only shift hard at full throttle anyway.

The grounding kit will only help if your car has a bad earth, I just ran my own new wires with crimp lugs.

DUDE go to the g35 driver forum there is a kit for around $130 us delivered for the our cars. I have a 5AT and to be honest it has made a difference. I dont know if its a placebo effect but when i take off with the tiptronic the shifts are instant.

Sweet. Got a link? I tried looking in the classifieds section and found only old posts.

Where did you get the wires from? And how much AWG?

Cheers

Have you seen how small the stock ones in the engine bay are? Anything over 1 amp would be better than what Nissan used. I ran around 4mm.

Yeah i know! For shame.. Ok then, i can't really be bothered crimping my own, so you think this is an alright buy?

This is a pic of my engine bay. I installed my self. I missed out on 1 wire because you need to get under the car and I dont have jacks.

Here is a link to a Skyline Australia group buy that happened a while ago - http://www.skylinesa...e-gounding-kit/

(read this thread towards the end you need to swap some wires around because the kit is built for the g35 which has the battery on the left not the right of the car like ours)

Here is a link to the grounding kit. You need to make a g35 driver account & contact him (its an older thread) - http://g35driver.com...unding-kit.html

Comes with complete instructions easy to follow.

The price is negotiable i would say. Ask him how much and just make a counteroffer and see where things go. I paid $130 US delivered.

Came in 6 days of payment for me.

P.S i wanted silver but got red =( but to lazy to sort out with international shipping. Specify when u pay. Red looks tacky.

Funnily enough if you Google HKS Grounding Wire Kit you will find there are 100's of different places (online stores, real stores etc) all with different photos of the kit (different angles, different colours etc) with the wrong spelling. Makes you wonder if HKS just stuffed up and shipped 10,000 units with a mistake on the English packaging..........or someone in China got away with ripping off a HELL of a lot of people.

Look at the quality of that cable especially the heatshrink there is NO way in hell that is genuine HKS. I made up my own grounding kit, I got all the cable, wire, crimps and heatshrink for free as my mate owns a manufacturing company (industrial transformers/power supplies/battery chargers etc). My wife who drives the car the most felt it "revved" a bit cleaner and idled smoother.

Hey guys i think im gona buy this for my V http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350343113611&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en

I have shit issues its slugish, wont down shift properly ect, this should fix that issue and also get it ready for a super or TT kit if i go that way at the end of the year. Does anyone know the install time for ones of these? my local auto tranny shop can fit it for me as they have worked on the RE5 box that i have so thats no probs they just dont know how long its gona take as they have not worked on the rice b4 and im trying to get a rough cost for it.

Thats what I have in mine, shifts perfectly. I would guess a day max, you only have to drop the pan, unscrew the valve body, modify it with the new springs and valves, then refit it. Fill with fluid and you are good to go. The box doesn't have to be removed for that.

This is what mine needs. First gear it revs out to 6,500... and holds it for AT LEAST a second while it thinks about changing gears

Would love tiptronic to be a TOTAL override over the computer.... so when i put it in second it wont choose any other gear... and when i select the next gear it does it without hesitation.

Nismo grounding kit has had zero effect or improvement on shifting

20 inch wheels just made it worse LOL

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
