I don't leave my PC on 24/7 to constantly run torrents. It only gets turned on when it's being used.

I do

For 4 years, no virus scanner.

Just used peerblock & used private trackers

It's only the people that don't want to spend a little bit of time educating themselves that end up getting smashed by a virus. Or unless you are a chick, in which case its pretty much a given.

Hence I never let anyone touch my PC that has no idea.

Technology + chicks = Divide by Zero...

Education and a bit of common sense goes a long way when it comes to downloading.

Most people don't even pay attention to obvious factors such as size and file-extension. Eg. A song in .exe format and only 300kb in size.

Funniest thing is how the people who used to make fun of us "PC geeks" , are now the ones paying for it; especially since the PC is so dominant in today's society.

I was never an academic but self taught computer geek, in high school would be in the computer room playing Farenheight 451 with the smart kids, now where are the cool kids

Since I got 3 desktops and 3 laptops in the house I decided that I wanted to run different AV software for most of them.

On my main desktop and both of my laptops I'm running Avast Home (Free)...it's nice and easy

My mum's PC, my "work" laptop and my other desktop (torrent downloader) run MSE...I agree with Nismoid...MSE is very good, not too resource hogging and stays updated (thanks to Microsoft Updates)

I have Malwarebytes running on most machines but I found that it's picking up alot of false positives and if you have the protection moitoring turn on, it will block out sites (you can turn the website blocking off but it still fails)

this might stir the pot however i still believe some virus is put out by virus company for trial especially finding where virus companies are based.........

i run eset nod32, no problems, does scans and doesnt slow my system down. also use peerguardian aswell but not sure that helps against much?

Iive always used kaspersky with malwarebytes and i keep dr web antvirus on my usb just in case something gets through and disables both ( or someone elses !). As stated before nothing is impenetrable if your stupid enough to let things through!

I use, Avast Pro version 5 on all computers at home.

• Never had a problem with it
• Not bad user interface
• It doesnt block ports (eg when LAN'ing)
• Its always scanning in the background (I'm sure like other AV's)
• Low RAM usage, from my understanding of it

Whenever i click on a file thats 'unsafe' e.g. keygens. removes it to the vault asap, and prompt's you a message of how youd like to deal with it.

been using it for over 4+ years

i'd say its better then AVG, Spyware, McCafe, Norton (old version) (prior experience with them..)
