he may well have forgotten that he was asked, so i wouldn't really bother asking him. i'd be more inclined to just assume that he was and said no. there is a very good chance that he was asked, said no, but will tell you that he wasn't because he honestly doesn't remember being asked.

as for DIY servicing, for a lot of people who do it themselves they would probably be better off getting it done professionally for the reason that more stuff would be done. a lot of people who simply change the oil every 5000kms would be neglecting other things that should be done. whenever i service my cars i look at ther service schedule in the manual to see what else needs to be done and do that as well as the usual oil change.

yeah..like what tighten the chassis bolts, replace sump plug washer..half that stuff is bullshit really..I have never replaced a sumpplug washer and have never had a leak cause i dont overtighten it..

If your car is running rough it doesnt need tuning, most likely there is a dirty sensor somewhere and that is all, most of these dealership mechanic muppets dont even know that and try tuning your car and end up doin more damage than good..

I mean i have got my car back with sump plugs and oil filters so tight i needed a breaker bar to get them, a leaky radiator, wiper blades that were hanging off, like you said earlier they are half stoned dimwits on a wage that couldnt care less and i would rather fix it myself than spend time chasing up their f**kups

I did 500,000kms with my last car and only ever got ripped of by workshops that couldnt fix problems i had and ended up fixing myself..One time i spent 500$ getting my gas system serviced and my car tuned with all sorts of diagnostic equipment that never fixed the problem. When all it needed in the end was new spark plug leads...

If your car is running bad 99% of the time it will be either..spark plugs or leads or dirty oil/air filters.. if it is neither of these it may actually have a mechanical problem..but unlikely..

i more meant that if it says that you are supposed to change the coolant at a certian kms, or plugs, or belts, or gearbox of diff oils, etc then i do it.

as for the 'tuning' thing, cars with EFI don't need tuning, and can't be tuned with a stock ecu anyway (which most of us know), so any mechanic that says they will 'tune' your car in a service is full of crap. same with dynos that charge you $80 for a 'dyno tune'. all they are going to do is a power run, or at most, bumping the timing up a degree or 2.

If he is smart enough to want to sue for damages he should have been smart enough to question the cost of the bill back at the 120,000k mark. Or did he think they forgot to charge him for it and didnt want to say anything?

Once they are out of warranty the service centre does what you ask them to do, not what the warranty book says they should be doing.

yeah its a dead issue, i tried getting an answer out of him but didn't make alot of sense..

Im getting the feeling he didn't get them to replace it cause the price they wanted was ridiculous. Was probably cheaper to replace the head..lol

Maybe the thread title should be changed to WTF...My mate didnt bother getting his BT50 serviced by the log book and destroyed engine??????

Edited by guesty

lol..yeah probably,

just got a quote for a 120k service and they want 1000$, at 240k they would want it again. So thats 2k.

It cost him 2.5 k to get it fixed @ 220km so he hasnt lost out much at all and as a bonus he now he has a fresh head on his engine as well...seen a bursons ute in a mechanics the other day, same problem so even bursons arent log book servicing their work cars..i sense a trend here,

Still thread was interesting to see that even if dealership did f**k up they are not necessarily liable for it..

No, I'd say they are liable, assuming it was in fact them who f**ked up and you can prove it and you don't wait 200,000 ks before hitting them up because they f**ked up.

If I took my car to a workshop and as I'm driving hoe the sump plug fell out, dumped my oil and my engine seized, fair to say the workshop is negligent (assuming, of course, that they failed to properly replace the sump plug).

What this demonstrates is that people are shameless and will do anything they can to pass on the responsibility of their own f**k ups to someone who doesn't deserve it.

if the guy told them not to change the timing belt when asked then he is the one at fault, not the dealer. if you go to a tyre shop to get 2 new tyres and they tell you all 4 are down to the canvas and you say "no, just do 2" and then on the way home it rains and you spin off and crash, who would you blame? the tyre shop for only putting 2 tyres on or the dopey git who said not to replace all 4?

That's what i was saying. If the shop f**ks up, they are liable. If the customer tells them to hold off on some work which comes back to bite, then tries to blame the shop, they have no one to blame but themselves.

This thread, and it's inception, demonstrates peoples willingness to shift blame at every opportunity. The dude who owns the BT50 needs to harden up. He has NO recourse for a claim after waiting 180,000ks not to mention I'll almost guarantee that they asked him if he wants the timing belt done and he said no.

you guys are f**ked seriously, let it go already..the guy who owns the ute doesnt care less..the only one who did care was me when i misunderstood that obviously it wasnt chamged cause he didnt want to pay to have it changed..I asked him if they changed it and he said NO..but he didnt tell me that was his choice, when i asked him a few days later (after creating this thread) if they had asked him about it he stated they wanted heaps to change it and avoided the subject so it is his fault and he hasnt complained about it at all and the only reason I have is because i wasnt given all the facts and given the dodgey work I have seen from dealerships it definately seemed possible to me at the time

Anyway I stated a week ago it was a dead issue so "Harden up" and stop carrying on like a bunch of old ladies..

Mate, you're the one who made a sooky topic trying to shift blame for someone else's f**k up. IMO you're the one in need of a cup of concrete.

it wasnt a sooky topic at all I was merely trying to find out if it was possible to seek compensation if a dealer fault had destroyed your car..i got my answer I didnt like it but I let it go.. A week later you come back to kick a man while hes down..

Nobody is trying to shift blame at all, with the information provided to me I originally thought it was their fault and let it go when i realize otherwise..

The only one trying shift blame now is you trying to blame me for your whiney little rants..

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
