Ive been looking around at getting a POD filter for my RB25DE and thought id nail two birds with one stone. First of all what size am I meant to be looking for I haven't seen a straight answer to that yet. Also everywhere I look says they are for race purposes only? surely this isn't right and im looking in the wrong places!

Any help for either question would be great! cheers guys, thanks in advance!!! =]

Hey mate,

Firstly let me suggest you buy a Decent Panel filter Like a KnN or a BLITZ they will be legal and basically do the same job.

I bet all your friends have said dude get this and that, it will make it go better, WRONG. In Reality a POD filter will do nothing but suck hotter Air Into the engine, unless you also invest in a COLD-AIR intake then It might do something, but it will still Be very minimal. You will be much better off leaving the stock air box and funnel, the engineering of it its awesome!. Cold air straight from the front bar, Unless you want a FULLY SICK waste of $30 bucks, and a defect notice. Yes they are illegal unless covered.

Perhaps a change of spark plugs instead of wasting your money.

To answer your question, Use the search tool. This has been covered before, or just maybe buy the right size adaptor.

Agree with Juz.

Considering you're not driving a turbo, investment in a pod filter will deliver very marginal returns in terms of performance. The best investment for you would be a high flow panel filter - K&N make good filters and are guaranteed for life, service needed every 30,000kms. I use a high flow K&N panel filter in my EVO 8 MR and wouldn't convert to a pod filter unless I purchased a cold air box or relocated the pod to the front bar.

Cheers

Shanil

Pod filter = useless mod, if your stock IC piping will allow the use of the stock air box use it, I do recommend modifying it so it has a cold air intake and a larger route for the in coming air, Google "modify standard air box" and "cold air intake' for some easy DIY projects.

I had to make this decision a few weeks ago firstly panel and pod are nearly identical in performance, so I ende up going the pod filter. Why you ask?

1. I built a heat shield

2. I modified the stock CAI so it delivered cold air to the pod

3. I liked the difference in sound when you put the pedal down

4. Fuel efficiency has been improved either due to hot air being sucked in an therefore leaner fuel has been used OR more power has been delivered because of the same amount of fuel or less therefore less fuel has been used

5. It was just something to do in my holidays

Panel filter will do the same thing, get a high flow one, the stock airbox and snorkel is excellent!

I know there has been many topics on pod vs panel but in the end I believe a pod with a good CAI and heat shield wins if you can invest time and money.

depends what state as to legalities of pod filter. in QLD you don't have to cover them but they have to be securely fitted with a bracket. the f**ked up thing is that the actual ruling is that an air filter is classed as being part of the fuel system. and it actually states that the air filter must be "securely fitted to the fuel system" meaning the clamp you use to fit the pod to the intake must be tight. but cops up here will still defect you if you dont have it bracketed to the chassis unless you can prove them wrong or in most cases go to court where the judge says "well officer was the air filter securely fitted to the fuel system?" to which the officer has to reply "yes" and then you win. i for one run a bracket on my pod because id rather not go to court because i was right lol.

Well when your 15 dollar pod disintegrates and ends up inside Your engine... lol

i choose HKS because HKS is good and the sound is the best in my opinion.

    • Short answer: No. Medium answer: No, because you still need to conjure the things out of thin air to bolt them to a NA to make it a NA+T. Long Answer: No - The things you need to conjure - meaning a turbo, intercooling, manifolds, exhaust, intake/manifold/piping, clutch, injectors, fuel pump, AFM (?), ECU + Wiring (woo, N/A loom fun) have to come from somewhere. You could have many scavenged these things from an OEM car that someone had upgraded from and use some of these. This will be cost prohibitive now, especially so in the USA. You'd probably pay the same for newer, upgraded components that are better than old OEM stuff from 25-30 years ago. None of these big ticket items are re-usable for the N/A car. Why not buy new and upgrade while you're there? The only real consideration is turbo and fuel sizing and determining whether you want to stay within the bounds of the OEM engine or get into rebuild territory. These limits ARE lower with a N/A motor and especially N/A gearbox at the starting point. And if you're gonna upgrade those then you may as well consider having them built to begin with. Because everyone here knows you're never far from that next engine rebuild once you start making the power you want... The cars you see on the internet and SAU etc have been built over decades. If you're really clued in... you would sell your US car to somebody for what you paid for it. You would then scour AU JDM pages or SAU and buy a car like Dose's on this forum with your powerful American Dollar. This will save you so much money in the long term. Importing it could be tricky. Or it might not because USA. I have long said the only reason 90's Japanese stuff took off was because a) Japanese people had Japanese cars so that is what they used b) Australians could import these cars to Australia with very minimal changes and use them on the road here c) Neither country had well-priced access to US or EU Sports Cars. I don't believe the JDM scene would have taken off in Australia at all if we had EU priced EU BMW M offerings, or more especially the AUS V8 Scene would never have existed if we had the multitude of US cars like Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes at the prices you folks do. After all - Do the math. I would say put a V8 in your R34 and that's the smart way forward. It is. I did it. I know this from my own experience. But at that point there's no reason to simply not buy a C5 or C6? It would be simpler and easier and cheaper and bette-
    • Reading all this... hurts lol. I have an ENR34 5MT and I paid an inflated USA price for the car alone, had to do tons of preventative maintenance past that, and so I'm over $30K USD into the car already and haven't even touched power.  I wanted to +t it. Not even trying to make GTR numbers, I'd be happy with 250hp.  Can I get away with paying much less to make that happen?
    • Damn you’ve done well, definitely snapping necks.
