Hey guys,

went to the drags last weekend and was quite dissappointed with my time, embarrassed actually, lol... after previously doing a 13.8 with 195kw and crap suspension and tyres, i couldnt seem to get any better than 14.5 and i think its due due to the wheels spin/take off...

the car has much more torque and pull than before so i was expecting a low 13 as others were doing with similar power, a few things which have changed are, 18inch rims instead of factory rims, pwr fc, more boost, tein coilovers instead of worn out soft ones, heavy duty clutch instead of dying old one.

any suggestions ?? even on 2500rpm i was spinning them when the 13.8time previously was hardly any spin and all acceleration..:(

i noticed a 450hp r33 gtst doing mid 12's with massive wheelspin ,

What tyre pressures were you running? I bump my 18's down to about 20psi when I use them at the drags.

Im launching the car at about 4000rpm with these (265 wide tyres) and not getting any real weel spin. have managed a 2.0sec 60ft time at this, which is better then before but still not great

Major thing is practice.... I need a hell of a lot more I know that much. Getting your tyre pressures right andgetting your Launch revs right are a good start but.

Hint: pop the stock suspension and tyres back on the rear.

Two things that are hindering you are no squat on take off and the larger/heavier rim.

I remember going when I was a P plater my fwd SR20 would do 0-100 in 7s on 15" rims and about 10s on 17" rims.. Imagine how embarrassing it was to race someone with your poser rims on lol.

yeah i know, i felt very embarressed doing such a crap time, i started out with the normal road pressure of 30psi, then by the 3rd run i thought maybe let the pressure down, so i let it down to 20psi which made a difference but not enough,

the dam thing just wont grip, and that makes sense , i should put those crappy factory wheels on next time.. thanks for that tip...

so rota grids 18inch would be heavy compared to factory rims then hey... should i put all four factory rims back on for drag strip?? and 20psi on back???

4000rpm??? shit !! im already frying them on 3000rpm... practising on the street seems to be very different from the drag strip but i guess its as close as you can get to it...

post up some more info on your car, what tyre size and brand/type did you use both times?

engine specs, just approximate will do

what mph where you running when running 13's compared to when you ran 14's also 60 foot times.

you really need to break it down, but it sounds like you have shit tyres and stiff suspension, which neither will be helping.

post more info from your timeslips and specs and we can help you out to get you running the times you want

I dont have the timeslips cause the 13.8 was like a year ago and the mid 14's i didnt want to even touch eww, get out!! lol

i dont think the 60foot times would of been respectable, felt like i was doing a big burnout for 20meters and into 2nd also some slipping.. maybe a second or more lost just there..

car specs- unopened rb25det, pwr fc, highflowed using 2871r center and r33 housings, 14psi, avcr controller, usual 3inch exhaust, FMIC 18inch 9.5 rota's with 245/40 federals ( the cheapish ones), tein coilovers Ha ( had the rears set to softest setting which is still fairly hard, tried both 30psi and 20psi, 20psi helped a little but not enough.. exedy hd clutch

previous time was with factory rims and 205/55 crap tyres, soft worn jap suspension, no pwr fc, only 11psi boost, no tuning, and standard clutch that started slipping by third run

so i guess the best i can do is adjust the tein coilover to softest and put those factory mags and fatish tyres back on....

maybe if i adust the avcr to come on full boost after 4000rpm it might have less wheelspin???

stiffin up the fron to the max to push the force on the back wheels...

do the handbrake as well...??

im going back in the next week, try again.... would love to beat some of the R8/flalcons...

got to do the skyline some justice and do a flat 13 damit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With 220rwkw and a 1400kg car (without me in it) this was the best i could achieve

ET: 12.9

MPH: 109

60ft: 1.9

This was using 225 street tyres, 16inch wheels and 20psi. I had a perfectly working LSD too, which is important.

I was also using rock hard coil overs.

Must have done at least 60 passes, could be 80 or more and had a lot of runs between 12.9 & 13.1 so it was consistent.

Without providing the following info we really cannot help you workout where you are missing.

MPH:

ET:

60ft:

Power:

Don't expect just to be able to put the foot to the floor as well. It's not a GTR :)

My passes required careful throttle control and use of clutch and not always 100% drop clutch and plant foot.

yes

yes i agree with you very much, i think it must be my lack of experience totally, ill try again soon though with different wheels and tyres, and less throttle off the line,,,,, i think my MPH was somthing like 88MPH so was pathetic, all i can think off was it felt like a burnout the whole of first gear...all the other gears felt strong.. and end speed was 160km (previous was 170KM) power is up from 195 to 215 and much more torque) sorry thats all the info i can give

thanks for ya reply , that helps alot in knowing what it should be if i have all the details correct for the future

Well 160-170km/h is 100-105mph

So which is it? :)

Don't you get a 60ft time on the timeslip?

i remember it was 160km/hr exactly, apologies for the other details it just i was disgusted with the outcome, couldnt beleive it was so slow after doing a 13.8 before with less power etc....

it was 108mph before when doing 13.8, i know that...

so as you can see, i really fell short of the full potential of it, but obviously it needs a gt3076 or the like and just a matter of time, and alot of practice, sorry to the skyline people let ya down and will amend this disgrace, lol :domokun:

being beaten by those V8's is hard to take,,, talking bout HSV's stock, xr6/xr8's grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

 was loving the sound/display of a 300kw r33 that did us folks justice and hosed off some R8's, that was awesome display and sound sooo nasty.... Long live the RB!!!!!!!!!!!! awesome in full modification and tune...mmm nice........

Do you have a timeslip?

like i said i didnt want to know about it, ( 14.5??? piss off!!)

maybe i should of kept it to help this forum query??......

sorry but i threw it in dissappointment... but obviously the first gear wheelspinning/ my skill in taking off was very much to be disired... :(

sorry bud... pinch.gif

Should have kept it dude. You can't workout where you are going wrong if you don't know.

Your 60ft might be ok, your MPH might be bad (car has power issues)

Your 60ft might be terrible, your MPH might be good (traction issues)

60ft & MPH might be bad (more than one issue)

More information = better answers. Get back out there and this time keep ALL your slips so you can get an idea of performance :)

will do next time , and will try other ideas read in the forums, thanks for the replys .... will use for next time... really want to do this justice and not look so soft and riceboy with my 18inch mags lol....

sounds like you got a pretty decent beast .. good on you for keeping the skyline respectable..

Do you have stock wheels at all?

Take the 18s off, and put 16s on - let em down to 20psi and you'll certainly notice quite a difference.

I did all my racing on 16" R32 GTR wheels :)

yeah i have my old 16inch 205/55's, should of put them on hey, but stupid not to of put them on ....didnt think

im keen to try again next week so will post again with better results hopefully, also thinking about staging the boost on the avcr, to 7psi till 4000rpm then 15psi, see if it helps me to get off the line with less wheel spin.. see what happens

Doubt it'll make a difference mate as soon as you hit 4000 it'll just spin then as well.

Infact off the line it might even spin a bit anyway. Wheelspin is fine, you are on street tyres so you cannot expect it to launch perfectly.

Just try a bit more right foot/left foot control with throttle/clutch. Combine that with you 16s @ 20psi

I reckon you could improve. Practice makes perfect anyway. Don't expect to be running the best times until you've done a good 20 passes and really worked out the feel of the car. Manual racing is quite difficult too compared to Auto.

    • Guys since i bought r33 gts25t coupe 1994 automatic a/t(manual swap 350z gearbox)  all i got is problems, always problems. Lets start with that when i turn key into ignition(ON) fuel pump doesnt always works. Sometimes i have to turn key twice Off/on/off/on until it primes. Its new, dw300 - 340lph. My gearbox broke so i did gearbox swap, install different intake manifold, injectors and i take pipes. Car was sitting in garage for more than half a year. I did assembly all not that long ago and when i turn ignition cant hear prime. All of sudden it stopped working. Theres many videos on YouTube how to make relay mod on r33 straight from battery so i did and it doesnt work! 😰 30 - battery positive  87 - positive from fuel pump to relay 85, 86 - one of two wires from original fuel pump wires(light blue, grey) and it didn’t work. so I check on ignition and took original BLUE relays wires from trunk, next to fuses. (I believe it’s IGN+ and ECU pin 18. it didn’t work…  tried connecting (IGN+ from og relay) and (ECU 104 from 1of4 FPCM wires) to my new relay 85/86 and it didn’t work.  I unplug FPCM. Didn’t work. im thinking what’s wrong   fuel pump is working, if I leave IGN+ on 85 and 86 straight to ground it works but it’s just nonstop. Since it getting constant 12v after key in ON. light blue wire gives me 6-8v.  so how this should be connected? What causing ECU not giving — on pin? Or I did sth wrong and that’s why it doesn’t work? I need negative signal on ECU that control fuel pump. What this should be?
    • You can use your VIN to look up the factory part number somewhere like amayama, and then look to order new if necessary. https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/nissan Depending on price you might want to rebuild instead. @GTSBoy I had an interesting insight into US market parts when the Titan rear calipers were sticking. New calipers were dirt cheap, about 20% more than a rebuild kit....they are just considered throw away maintenance items
    • Funny, but really not funny. Thank god (most) f the world has moved on since then
    • Lots of votes for driving onto a plank first; that is the quickest way I've found, 25mm is enough for my case but that will vary by car It also depends where you are going for. On the 32 I can get to the rear diff with my floor jack if I do that end first, and get it up on stands. Then I lift the front from either front tow hook as high as needed, also onto stands. Sometimes I need a small lift on the other tow hook to get it level enough If I do the front first I can't get to the rear diff because of the angle of the car Other options are getting to the front mount of the rear subframe from in front of the wheel (if only lifting one side, or just do both which is a bit of a pain compared to one lift from the diff), or also the gearbox cross member mount on the driver's side if you are  just trying to lift the driver's side. I This is the jack I use; it says 75mm clearance but of course that is only on the lower section so if you have to reach too far in like the diff you still get stuck. https://www.snapon-bluepoint.com.sg/category/Floor-Jacks/product/Floor-Jack,-2-Ton-Low-Profile
