Cleaning the cold start regulator will do nothing as it is only a valve that opens and shuts. The disc is half open at 20 degrees celsius making the idle about 1400RPM, so when you start your car and its starts that second time if it idles high when cold and low when hot then the regulator is operating fine.

As for power FC, it could be running a tune that is able to handle a rich cold start and yes you cold have had a faulty ECU but i don't know why or how the ECU would be fine the 2nd start and reset hours after only when its cold. Then in summer this problem does not occur (well for me), that's how i figured out it was a leaky injector then i pulled the rail out and primed the pump and saw it drip. 08r3308 you should do this because your going to have to eliminate possibilities with so may different opinions.

I'm starting to get a VERY rich fuel smell which happens only for about 2 seconds when I start the car. Not when I prime, only start. Ive got brand new injectors seated in a fuel rail with all brand new seals and rings. There is no smell of fuel in the engine bay at all. I can smell it in the cabin for a couple of seconds. Fuel hoses are all tight and secure. I think I'm just running way too rich and some raw, unburnt fuel is making its way into the exhaust before being burnt. The power FC isn't giving me any starting issues.

I too can now suggest you check your injectors. Its not hard to do. Have someone keep priming your fuel pump and just have a smell around the engine pay. Its a PITA to yank out the fuel rail, and the smell of fuel is really strong so if it is leaky I'm sure you will smell it.

Your engine bay should NOT smell like fuel.

When you go to fill up with petrol do you get that "PSSHH" sound when taking the cap off, also on hard right turns you will get a stronger than usual fuel smell ....... if so then its the fuel filler cap. Other than that there is a million and one things to try.

Do you really think if there was a leak that you won't be able to smell it? Fuel has one of the strongest smells and even a drop in your engine bay will be very distinct. Ive got my old fuel rail here which was pulled out of the car to fit in the new rail. Ive pulled out all the injectors and the rubber is still nice and supple and there are no cracks or tears.

I just think that if there was leaky fuel, you would smell it. Just loosen the rail where it sits, lift it up and them keep priming your fuel pump over and over and watch for leaks.

Yeah I was thinking about that... if its leaking it will be leaking into the piston causing the cylinder to flood and bog down. Why not let it die down as it does then rip out the spark plugs and look for wetness. Its MUCH easier to pull spark plugs than it is to pull the rail.

My old car did and that. I just tried it out on this car(and I recall when I used to go fill up) it does not do the psssh sound. I don't think it ever has... I took the cap off my other skyline and chucked it onto this one. The car is warm so I'm gonna let it pressurize then remove it see if it makes a difference. Is the filler cap not going pssh a problem WITH the filler cap?

    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
