Did back to back dyno testing at Boostworx. Eflex made less power then normal 98. The liberty e85 made 15-20kw more. Eflex isn't e85 its e70-e85 as it says on the pump.

While I dont doubt your figures this is totally the opposite of the testing I have carried out for our own vehicles.

However I have never tested 'Liberty' E85 only the United CSR Sarina manufactured blend, I think you may be getting confused with United. If there is a Liberty selling here let me know and I will test it.

E-Flex is a much maligned fuel. As stated on the brochure on the Caltex servo counter this fuel WILL contain as little as E70 in some circumstances, and yes it has when I test it (71% concentration is the lowest measured directly). This gives the fuel an effective tuning RON (my calcs here, not measuring on an octane machine) of around 110 - 112 RON. It is also highly oxygenated which means that it is capable of delivering good combustion energy - significantly higher than that of E85. I do not know why Boostworx have found it makes less power than 98 octane fuel as on a typical 200rwkw turbocharged engine (on a Mainline dyno) we can normally extract in the order of 10% - 14% additional power and torque swapping from 98 to E-Flex. The tuning technique required does however require some thinking outside of the square with some engines.

Yes, my family hack is a Flex-Fuel setup EVO X, and yes it runs on either 98, or more preferably (as it makes a ton more power and costs $40 a week to run) E-Flex :)

CSR Sarina E85 is a little more pure for the racers measuring at around 88% Ethanol in most cases and can make a tad more power than E-Flex (not a great deal in it). We run the United CSR blend in - all - our Willall Racing track and drag cars, but maybe we are missing something? :pirate:

Yup, I meant United not liberty on Tapleys Hill Rd >_<

Not to sure whay exactly it made less power then 98, wasn't by much though 230rwkw vs 226rwkw. Could have been a bad batch of fuel or it could have been down to tuning technique.

But as I said, and you stated above. The United E85 will make more power then eflex as its a more pure blend. Considering the United E85 is as cheap as eflex I know what i'll be buying all day every day.

Considering runnoing the evo on it.

A few blokes from other states have been doing it for awhile.

Have seen back to back dyno results and have been impressed...

As far as 'stuffing things up' i havent heard of much. what are the risks?

I say go for it, Eflex is more than capable even at 70%.

I use the United E85, but have no problems at all throwing in Eflex,

United's wins on my seat of the paints dyno.

Recently tuned a S15 SR to 1.85bar on E85 running a disco with all the bolt on's, got a good compromise mapping both fuels, hasnt had it's power measured yet, but far out it fly's, high 200's at a guess.

.82 rear or .64? I've got the .64 making 240rwkw at 20psi dropping off to 16psi (small wastegate). If you have .82 is there much lag? would be keen to see power graphs as thinking of changing rear housings on mine.

I'm amazed at the attitude towards E70 vs E85............I think peeps are forgetting that the fuel alone won't give you the kind of power you're looking for.

In fact, 98 pump fuel will burn much better (combust) than the higher octane Ethanol.........the stuff just doesn't burn!!!

What the Ethanol allows you to do is turn up the boost and and throw more ignition timing at it, hence where the additional power comes from................the stuff doesn't know the meaning of the word Detonation!!!

people still hate on e85 haha, i have been running e85 for 3 years thanks to adrian, never had a issue pushing awesome power! it really is power for nothing compared to what some people spend chasing small gains, as well as safer. as for blends tryed nearly all varietys and never had issues.

    • @Haggerty you still haven't answered my question.  Many things you are saying do not make sense for someone who can tune, yet I would not expect someone who cannot tune to be playing with the things in the ECU that you are.  This process would be a lot quicker to figure out if we can remove user error from the equation. 
    • If as it's stalling, the fuel pressure rises, it's saying there's less vacuum in the intake manifold. This is pretty typical of an engine that is slowing down.   While typically is agree it sounds fuel related, it really sounds fuel/air mixture related. Since the whole system has been refurbished, including injectors, pump, etc, it's likely we've altered how well the system is delivering fuel. If someone before you has messed with the IACV because it needed fiddling with as the fuel system was dieing out, we need to readjust it back. Getting things back to factory spec everywhere, is what's going to help the entire system. So if it idles at 400rpm with no IACV, that needs raising. Getting factory air flow back to normal will help us get everything back in spec, and likely help chase down any other issues. Back on IACV, if the base idle (no IACV plugged in) is too far out, it's a lot harder for the ECU to control idle. The IACV duty cycle causes non linear variations in reality. When I've tuned the idle valves in the past, you need to keep it in a relatively narrow window on aftermarket ecus to stop them doing wild dances. It also means if your base idle is too low, the valve needs to open too much, and then the smallest % change ends up being a huge variation.
    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
    • AHHHH gotchaa, I'll do that once I am home again. I tried doing the harness with the multimeter but it seems the car needed a jump, there was no power when it was in the "ON" position. Not sure if I should use car battery jump starter or if its because the stuff that has been disconnect the car just does send power.
    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
