Well I finally put a new head unit in my car;

runs the Bose amps and speakers: tried the Metra 70-7551 but found the sound quality was woeful; swapped back to the Japanese harness that was being used on the Carrozzeria system that was already in the car

Sony XAV72BT - US Model (I wonder if I can make it DVD region free easily... no idea and not to bothered if I cant)

Also installed a reversing camera and got the steering wheel controls working (PAC-SWI-PSv1)

Next step on the Audio front will be to add a digital TV Tuner (and maybe a front camera: I just need to find a way to easily switch between the two cameras on one RCA input), and looking at if its possible to give my car back its dual zone climate control (G35 forums suggest its just soldering on an extra button and replacing the blank?)

Pro's of this head unit: dedicated reversing camera input + reverse trigger

excellent bluetooth handsfree (better than the dedicated Nokia one in my last car, and better than all the ones I drive in hire cars - current falcon/commodore/ i45/corolla/xtrail)

cons: slow over USB (slow to change tracks etc)

region locked to USA (but its half the price of an Australian one!)

Anyway less talk more photos: Not bad for a total cost of about 600 AUD

Looks good mate. Did you install the steering wheel controls yourself? I have the actual steering wheel control module installed on my steering wheel, and I have a SWI-PS1 with wiring diagram, but I don't actually know WHERE the plug is that I need to connect the resistors and patch into.

Nice. I have been trying to decide if I should go with an aftermarket head unit or get the iPod interface. I know the iPod I/F would be cheaper, but I like the idea of a reverse camera and bluetooth HF.

Just wondering why you went with the non-dual zone AC controls? Can't you buy the controls to suit the dual zone setup?

Also, what else was required to interface to the factory bose amps? You said you didn't like the Metra and just used the factory harness. Did you need anything else, other than the double DIN surround and AC control unit?

Sadly the Nissan dual din kits do NOT come with dual zone climate - dual zone are not made in a single din interface. But as Glen pointed out all you have to do is unsolder the dual zone button and assembly off your stock BOSE setup and solder it into the new climate controller (there is a blank spot for it).

Nice install Glen . I love the look of a dual DIN headunit.

If you don't have enough A/V inputs for the DTV tuner & front facing camera, the tuner has an input that can easily be switched on/off (so you get both functions on the one input on your headunit). Alternatively you could use a couple of relays to do something similar, but if you were going to get a tuner anyway.....

they are actually. thing being they are almost twice as expensive as the single unit. every once in a while I get a request for it and that usually follows with a heart attack once they hear the price.

Maybe Chris can answer this question - where is the plug I need to tap into to get the steering wheel controls working?

behind the radio. its the 3rd white plug that was in the stock clarion unit. I have a interface that will do away with the resistors. it simply wires in and works.

Hey guys,

Haven't been on the net for a few days (Did a trip from Mackay to Capella for work and had a few network installs along the way)

Chris is 100% right, its a plug that looks very similar to the one that plugs in to the climate control

I merely found some wire the same colour as the ones I was tapping and went upstream to preserve the original connector - if you can buy a plug in adapter from Chris then do it! - I used lengths of wire and shrink wrapped the whole thing up because that is just good practice.

I had it really easy considering there was already a Pioneer/Carrozzeria unit in the car, so I didn't really need to buy any adapter harnesses (though I bought a Metra 707551), and I already had the dash surround

I would advise against buying a Metra 70-7551, as it sounds like crap! I had it in there for a couple of days before I could get my car into my Father's shed and actually do things properly, and the difference was night and day (to the random harness that came in the car from Japan)

I'm sure either Chris or Commsman will supply a kit to wire an aftermarket head unit into a V35 with Bose audio controls

Also pulled about 5kg of wire (no joke) out of the car that was associated with my standard antennas, (and the GPS antennas and God only knows what other antennaes were previously on my dash) it did laps around the car under the carpet.

If I had my time again I would have bought an ebay camera that clips in where the number plate light goes. Coworker gave (or lent... I'm not sure) me one this week that he bought from ebay for a Z33 and it looks like it will fit our cars

Sounds like I'll go for the tuner and front camera then :D

Just got the front windows tinted on the Skyline today too (haven't seen it all week since spending half the weekend working on it)

Hi All, any help regarding DD conversion would be great at this point this is what I'm going with....

Metra 70-7550- Wiring harness? Or PAC ROEM-NIS2 - Not sure which one I need?

JDM DD Facia - http://www.ebay.com/...6ddc43f&vxp=mtr

and the Ca-Fi Dashlinq (Unless anyone can give me any other great alternatives??)

Nissan Antenna Adapter

Is there anything else I really need to do the conversion? I mean I intend to get Tonkins here in S.A to install it, but is there anything I've missed other than the wiring harness? the JDM unit comes with the A/C controller.

Let me know what you think,

Big Ups to John From Marvey Tech!!!

And thanks to nightcrawler for the excellent advice!

John did a wicked install on my dashlinq, it was just lucky enough that it fit the double din fascia pretty snuggly!

Marvey Tech! Adelaide no two ways about it!

Hey Mate,

Are you able to post pics of your install?

What i mainly want to know is does your oem Nav screen still work? If so, is your headunit able to output video to it via rca?

What i want to end up having is a double din headunit which is able to output or mirror its GPS onto the OEM Nav screen.

Cheers,

    • AHHHH gotchaa, I'll do that once I am home again. I tried doing the harness with the multimeter but it seems the car needed a jump, there was no power when it was in the "ON" position. Not sure if I should use car battery jump starter or if its because the stuff that has been disconnect the car just does send power.
    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
    • In my head it does make sense to be a fuel problem since that is what I touched when cleaning the system. When I was testing with the fuel pressure gauge, the pressure was constantly 2.5 bar with the FPR vacuum removed. When stalling, the pressure was going up to 3.0 bar (which is how it should be on ignition).
