Hey guys,

I have been out of the car scene for some time now due to travelling and living overseas. Now as a future graduation present to myself for mid next year I am looking to get a project car to restore and become a reliable daily,

I am looking at either an R31 or R32 (leaning a lot more towards this) or even a Supra Mark 2 or 3, I want it to be naturally aspirated and as stock as possible.

So which car do you think I should go?

Questions concerning the R32.

How much would a R32 GTS four door, manual set you back these days?

I would look to keep the car as stock as possible with R32 GTR upgrades brakes etc, with a possible RB25DE transplant, (yes, I am leaning more towards the R32 four door, reason being I have owned one in the past and loved it to bits)

something ive found thats quite interesting .. r32 gts-t seems to be more expensive than a r33 gtst?

weird

why did you want to keep the car n/a though OP? most jap cars need turbo for moar powa as far as i've seen

Yeah i LOVE the look of 32s and was really hoping to find one for a good price but yeah they dont seem to like devalueing!

and OP I own an n/a skyline - it really is a real bummer, i bought it cos i thought i could live without performance - but i cannot blush.gif

and I'm the kind of person that gets super attached to their cars and the thought of spending sooo much money for soooo little gains is just ridiculous.

and thus why im about to get rid of the sexcel and get a car that is worthy of having $$ thrown at it.

unless you just want the car for looks and to handle nicely (which n/a skylines do very well imo!) then i would definitely try to save up a bit more for a turbo. oh and the only other reason i can think of getting an n/a besides p plate restrictions would be turbo insurance costs are just nasty, almost half the price for my n/a

I have already owned the turbo variant, and a turbo 180sx. With the price of fuel on the rise and insurance being a lot cheaper for an NA, is the reason I want the non turbo. I just really like the look of the R32's hence why wanted to one it will just be a daily, so I don't see the need for a turbo, so it will just be a nice looking car that can handle well. As soon as I start my career after graduation, 6 months down the track I will be looking into a R35.

^ may i please enquire what degree you are doing so i can transfer to it?

in regards to fuel .. ive found alot of the turbo guys running fuel consumption figures barely worse than the n/a ones!

and yeah the turbo insurance is really nasty, around twice the price!

LOL james.

actually OP you should get an excel, i believe me and james found that it had close to 1kw more power than his bubble ..

but his is slightly more economical.

just a question of if you want a more powerful car (the excel), or a more practical car (the bubble) really laugh.gif

RB25DE aren't very economical....

You want a mazda 121

I own a 20B, the RB25DE in comparison is as economical as a fk'n push bike!

^ mine drinks low 11s on average for fuel consumption...

its not absolutely terrible but for an n/a car you could get much better fuel economy and probably performance out of others

remember turbo powered cars economy is largely affected by the right foot. . .ive found i get better economy outta my RB20DET (with some redline thrashing) than i ever got with my VG30E

    • Hi from Canada, Both of my calipers are starting to fail. My car is a 2005 M35 Stagea ARX and I can't seem to find any parts or any cross reference caliper that would fit my car. Is there a company or a similar caliper that would fit and I could replace the OEM one. Or if anyone knows where I can find a new OEM. Any help is very appreciated. Let me know!
    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
