the drivers door wont lock or unlock with the remote. i can use the key but this gets a little annoying after awhile.

Is this a common problem? if so is there anyone who has experience fixing this? i just dont have the time nor the space to fix this issue myself.

if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Alex, i did have that issue a couple of days back.....eventually i found that my boot was not locked properly...simply opened the boot and closed it....the key started to work fine....i am not sure if this will fix your issue...just give it a go....

hi guys

thanks for all of your replies. i have tried the boot a few times yet no luck, i would say that actuator is dead.

The car has had this issue since i bought it around 4 months ago.. i sure hope the passenger side dosnt break too lol.

ok i will email chris rogers and find out what they are worth. does he fit them also?

Search around on SAU - this topic has been posted dozens of times before. There is also a YouTube video of how to replace your oem actuator with an aftermarket one.

Hey Chris, what would be the proper fix for this? Would there be a permanent fix? Wouldnt the replacement door actuator evetually crap itself and you'll have to replace it again?

bit of a redundant question when you think about it. they are service parts. they are meant to fail at some point in the cars life and given most of these cars are 7-8 yrs old when you get them I do not see that as too bad a thing given the amount of use they would have over that time. you are getting these cars half way through their life. things are going to break. repari them proerply using proper OEM parts and they will last another 8-10 yrs. by that time you will have all moved on and bought other cars. (unless you are like me and keep things for years on end)

half arsing things on them is simply asking for more trouble in my eye. you do not own a 1975 datsun 120 Y here. you own what was a $90k car when it was new and as such parts will need to be replaced on them when they fail

we all know the electrics are done by renault and as such the are a tad expensive and unreliable after several years of use. to me that's life and part of owning one of these cars.

my immediate thoughts are this:

if you have one thing in that door fails do both sides and do EVERYTHING in it. now that may not be your cup of tea but from a point of ripping the thing down several times to change things that break it certainly makes it a lot simpler if you do it all at once.

my 2c.

I got this problem sorted out on my car a few weeks ago. Not wanting to have any complications i decided to get it done through my local Nissan dealer.

The drivers door lock actuator cost me $315 and a flat rate of $190 to install it. Much cheaper than the usual $120 per hour rate they usually charge.

It took them about 3 hours to get it all sorted and align the window correctly.

At the end of the day its up to you. I decided to get it done at Nissan but that's me..

Many people on the forum have completed this job successfully themselves but as per Chris's FAQ Section, this is not a simple DIY

Cheers

    • Some of the filler.   Also if I look under the top flap of metal it starts looking good quite close to the edge. I get the feeling it doesn't go much further.
    • So, I finally started digging at the bit of my roof that was cracking and bulging a bit. Well, it was just thick filler that was covering some pretty bad rust. I didn't find the edges, I was too bummed to keep going.  There are a few holes as you can see. There was just so much filler but looks like no attempt under the filler to prime or use rust converter, just slapped filler on exposed rust.  Anyway, I'm going to take the windshield out and find the edges. I'd love to fix this myself as I'm pretty sure it'll be expensive to get done properly. I was thinking I could just get a cut piece from another E39 and just weld it in place as it would be the right size and shape.  Thoughts?
    • This is the territory of the "Stage 1/2/3 Golf GTI/R" or otherwise off the shelf tune with (relative to before) minor mods. It's easier now. Downpipe and Tune and boom, big increases. Stage 1 OEM+ is where it's at. This is where the niche evolved into and it's really easy to see why. It's rare to even NEED to consider changing turbos or going to aftermarket ECU's or building bottom ends for more power. Stage 1-2-3 will get you a LONG WAY. Civic Type R turbo GR Yaris/Corolla Anything with B58 (MKV Supra/x40i) Anything BMW in General Anything Audi in General Any turbo AMG RenaultSport Turbo offerings Korean Elantra N/I30N Ecoboost Mustangs Focus RS? List goes on. I would argue in the future it won't even need to go on... M3P is pretty rapid out of the box...
    • There is a way, but it's not with the same cars. You need to find the same vintage of car, that we had. Realistically, that was an affordable car with aftermarket parts around. So what people need to find is a car that had a decent base in its day, and can be modified. They're looking for a car year make of 2010 to 2015 really... Aus could have done it if Holden didn't fold as V8 commodores were cheap, and if Ford didn't get expensive thanks to COVID, then you could cheaply play with FG Barras. Realistically, those are just a bit heavier, four door skylines. I'm sure the US and UK have similar cars they could find.
    • Haha I do that.. thats when it chirps..The bit point for me is almost non-existent. Otherwise I stall it. But yes, in terms of performance, the clutch is solid af.
