So I was just about to get a new car and put the skyline up for sale when the head gasket blew, so wondering if anyone is interested in taking it as is? Would be suitable for RB25 upgrade or anyone who has the time and space to work on it themselves. Car is in Brisbane, currently sitting at Mercury Motorsport. I can send pics if anyone is actually interested.

Details:1989 HCR32, 2dr coupe, white.

About 160,000km.

Sunroof

Antilock Brakes

Exterior:White multispoke Sparco 16" rims, front tyres are about a month old (Toyo). Rears are older but still deep tread.

The usual looking Type-M-Spec side skirts and spoiler, paint in fair condition for over 20 year old. Dark tint.

Mods:ARC FMIC, Turbotech boost controller, JJR split dump pipe, X-force Cat, Kakimoto cat-back.

Was making 162kW with Nistune.

Interior:Retrimmed steering wheel about 1 year ago. Replaced gear and brake boots. Black Nismo knob. Boost gauge in drivers air vent. Pioneer CD player with audio jack.

Things done recently:

Air con serviced this year; coil packs are a couple of years old; rocker cover, exhaust and turbo gaskets all just replaced, shocks were replaced when I bought it in 2007.

Hoping to get a few grand for it if anyone is interested before I have to look at putting a new engine in to sell it.

Any recommendations on a parts/wrecker/wholesaler that pays decently for such cars is welcome.

Hey im interested in the 32.

I dont mean to be rude but i live in adelaide and if i was to pick it up and go through all the regency crap it will cost a bit of coin.

But would you be willing to let it go for $1500 and ill take it off your hands.

Hey Oscar, thanks for your reply and certainly no rudeness in your offer, its good to have at least some indication of interest.

I think I'd really need to get closer to $3000 or it would be more worthwhile putting an engine in an selling it based on initial cost estimates, but I will get back to you if things change.

Here is an old picture that I've been able to pull off facebook:

Yeah we discussed RB20 and Rb25 with very rough estimates, I'm still undecided but thought as a first step I'd get an idea of any interest on here selling as is. Are you interested out of curiosity or potentially buying it and getting it done?

Also, in case I overestimated the intelligence of people on here, or they can't read the first post - the head gasket has blown, which is a bad thing. The car is not drivable unless you want to further destroy the engine, and will require either a new engine or significant work done to replace and recondition the current engine. If this is not apparent to you, then this is not the car for you.

If you understand this and wish to purchase the car, grow some balls and make an offer like our South Aussie friend above. If you ask what my best price is, you won't get a reply.

I brought some recent photos from home but my work computer doesn't want to read the hard drive so will post them from home.

Hey all,

Sorry for the delay in pictures, here is a selection of the surprisingly few photos it turns out I have. Note this is prior to FMIC install which is fairly subtle but required some cutting of the bumper (i.e eliminating the vertical section and trimming of the lower horizontal part).

One other thing I realised has been done in the last few months is top and bottom radiator hoses have been replaced, also rego is QLD til July 29.

Edit: Also forgot - has Exedy heavy duty clutch, 2-way pager alarm.

I will be negotiating a new car tomorrow, and will (hopefully) make a decision on what to do with the car thereafter. FYI, current offer under consideration is $2900.

hey mate, cheers for the reply!

i have been a very regular customer at mercury for a long time, so the idea had occurred to me to buy your car and negotiate throwing a 25 into it.

pm me if you wish to discuss anythin mate, it'll keep ya for sale thread nice and clean!

cheers adam

Currently have an offer that I will proceed with pending confirmation of stock availability of a new car and finalising inspection/arrangements with the buyer.

I will confirm if sale is final, but no new offers at this stage please.

    • So stock ECU does not like anything above 10 psi?  That Nistune one is just for "try" if it will be any different, I know it need to be tune for that. I know but YOU may know about these problem but i/we dont. They few little Skylines here let alone people who know anything about tham so that is why iam asking here
    • So now we have a radiator with no attachments whatsoever. It lifts up with a particularly tight spot between the drivers side air box mount and the lower radiator outlet, but if you've got this far you will sort that too. This is the lower mounts with the rad out so you can see where the rubber bushes go, it is a straight shot upwards Done! Assembly is the reverse of disassembly, with blood less likely to be shed.
    • Right, onto the second last trick. The Air Con condenser is mounted to the front of the radiator and stays in the car when the radiator is removed. There are 2x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the condenser to the radiator, remove those The bottom of the condenser is attached to the radiator with clips. You need to lift the condenser out of those clips and clear (up, then forward). f**ked if  could work out how to do that last bit with the front bumper on. I hope you can, and you share the trick.  Bumper removal probably deserves its own thread one day once I've recovered the will to live, but basically you need to remove the wheels, front inner guard liners (clips and 10mm headed bolts), the self tapper between the guard and the bumper at the rearmost point of the bumper (same as an R32 that bit), any remaining clips at the top/front of the grill, an absolute bastard design with a plate that holds the top of the bumper above the headlight each side (only 1 bolt which is tricky to get to, but the plate catches 2 places on the bumper and must be removed....carefully!) and push clips between the bumper and guard under the headlight. If you've done all that you will be faced with wiring for the fog lights on both sides and in ADM Q50 RS at least, 4 nasty tight plugs on the driver's side for the ADAS stuff. So, the clips at the bottom look like this on drivers side (looking from the front) And on the passenger side (also from the front), you can see this one is already out Clearance on both of these are super tight; the condenser needs to move up but the upper rad support mount prevents that, and the radiator can't move down far because it is (rubber) mounted. Once you achieve the impossible and drop the condenser off those mounts so it does not stop the rad moving, you are good to go
    • OK, next the shroud needs to come off and there are a couple of tricks. Firstly, there is a loom from near the passenger side headlight to the fans, coolant temp sensor etc and there is no plug to undo.  In my case I was OK to leave the shroud on top of the engine so I just undid the passenger side fan plug and about 10 of the clips which gave enough free wire to put it aside. The fan plugs were super tight, the trick I used was a small falt screwdriver to push down on the release tab, then a larger flat screwdriver to lever the plug out of the fan unit....be careful with how much force you apply! If you need to remove the shroud altogether for some reason you will have to deal with all the plugs (tight) and clips (brittle)....good luck. I removed all of the clips and replaced them with cable ties that I will just cut next time. Also, in the Red Sport / 400R at least, the intake heat exchanger reservoir hose is bolted to the shroud in 2 places with 10mm headed bolts; so remove them (the hose stays in the car; no need to undo it at the t fittings down at the radiator lower mount. Once you've dealt with the HX hose and the wiring loom, there are 3x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the shroud to the radiator; remove those.   The shroud then lifts out of the bottom mounts where it sits on the radiator, up and onto the engine out of the way. Simples
    • Ok, disregard my “rate them” comment, sorry for my unrealistic input
