OK, after doing a shitload of research it turns out there are 2 different types of "Square" headlights. As funkymonkey mentioned... one which has the larger square going behind the smaller square and one which clearly doesn't.

Now, the thing is, the one which Shan thought was the N1 is not the N1, actually it's found on the GTS-S! There are plenty of the both up on Yahoo Auctions right now. Some are calling N1, some aren't. And so, it brings us all the way round to square 1 again.

It's looking a lot like this:

THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE!!!

Just the clips above which allows you to bolt up GTS square non projector lights to a GT-R and keep your grill.

Sorry to bring up an old tread, but I forgot what the nissan part number is for the R32 headlight brackets to fit the GTR grill, I bought some ages ago but can't remember them and the picture that showed the part number before has been removed.

Hope someone can rememeber.

cheers

michael

Try asking in the "VINs you want FASTed" thread, use a random R32 GTR VIN like "BNR32 003945" and get em to look up the part number for the headlight bracket. I'd look it up for you, but I just reinstalled XP on my machine and have to install FAST again.

Does anyone know where to get a set of DOT approved headlights? Or a set that say DOT on them?

Skylines never came with DOT approved headlights. If you want to be cheeky, try getting a DOT approval etched on your headlight (illegal, but meh) back in the day in Australia before the compliance laws got relaxed, the rear quarter windows on some R32's weren't ADR (our version of DOT) approved, so some compliance workshops used to get a fake approval etched onto it, and then put it thru the system just fine.

You'll still get caught out on the road because your headlight will glare into oncoming traffic, but at least your inspection will be OK.

Failing that I've seen people use S14 and Accord headlights on their R32's in Canada hehehe... looks like arse, but if you want one badly and want to stay legal, thems the breaks. Or be a pioneer and put a 240SX front (pop up, not the JDM tyte silvia one) on your skyline :)

These would look a little less then arse on a black car with dark tint.

But it sucks you need to replace the stock headlights because they look so damn good. The only good thing with all our stupid rules is that everyones car will look different and your hard pressed to find a skyline here thats legal but doesn't look tacky (looks like they shopped for their side markers at a trailer store).

As for the 240 front end, i'd rather have the front of my car moulded to a tree then have that.

what about european delivered R33 headlights? they're DOT approved. go on, do an R33 frontend swap on an R32. Then R33 owners AND R32 owners will hate on you :nyaanyaa:

So can anyone tell me what is so special about the n1 headlight? And why it costs a bomb when it looks like a gts-t headlight?

Especially considering the standard gtr headlights are projector?

I've got the supposedly n1 headlights on my car and ive always wondered whats so special about it

Also, any confirmation on whether the full backing square headlight is the n1 or the square that half-fills the headlight is the n1?

here's how I see it... N1's are a myth. Every single real N1 chassis I ahve seen features poverty pack headlights or projector headlights.

The reason for this? GTR's came with projector headlights. non GTR's came with non projector headlights and projectors as an option. An N1 GTR is a stripped down race version of the GTR (ie "race spec" brakes, tranny etc, but no creature comforts like stereo)... part of this de-optioning was putting non projector headlights on them. Now in order to fit a GTR grille, you needed a bracket that clipped onto the headlight.

So basically you get a bunch of guys who put brackets on poverty pack headlights, and run around saying they've got N1 headlights. When in fact they have the cheap headlights with a $30 bracket.

DOT R32 lighing kit

start lining up to spend $1000 on $200 of equipment. But get a cheap car from Japan add that to yuor costs and have a car that'll got hrough with no bull shit. I think i just need lighting because i looked at all the lines in my car and their all DOT allong with all the glass i soppose the last owner had to pass slacker laws because thatd be allot of bullshit to do everythign at once. I might as well order me a Caterham and a gt35R if i wanted to build an entire car from the ground up.

we don't need to meet DOT requirements in australia (partially cos we're not attached by the umbilical cord to America's arcane laws) but mostly because we drive on the same side of the road as the Japs and Brits.

Are you serious? they're gonna charge you a grand for a pair of shitty ebay Accord headlights and mods that you can do with a bit of silicon remover, pliers, electrical tape and a saw?

The only people who are gonna pay $1000 are the people who souldn't touch a tool. I think the only good thing about the laws in place is that it forces everyone into modifying their cars in some way and it'll be neat in the next few years to see how people make these restrictions, well not the lazy way but the really good looking clean setups.

For N1 lights? The grill clips are

26025-05U15 Right H/S

26075-05U15 Left H/S

26042-05U15 is Bracket Assy (right)

26092-05U15 is Bracket Assy (left)

Get along to a dealer and have a look at the FAST exploded diagram to confirm its what your after.

I'll do that or if someone has a FAST pic of the parts that would be good too. Need these brackets to allow my pov spec non projector lights accept the gtr grill.

I take it the over part numbers you mentioned are for the clips themselves?

see if you can make it out from this pic in my build thread:

Ok these things are driving me up the wall, 4 mm wide screws dont fit, nissan doesn't stock the screws, and I don't really want to buy every single smaller type of screw to try and fit into these things, anyone else put these things in? And if so what screw sizes did you use?

    • (it is a brand new ported mellings pump) I suspect the lack of pressure is due to the leak. It was *not* that low in other logs of oil pressure in the past. It wasn't that hot either, but not far off.
    • Would a Mellings oil pump be a viable option  From my time with a LS, and talking to tuners and LS specialists, the "weak" OEM oil pump is one of the first things they recommend to swap out if I was going to give the engine any high RPM I opted for a Mellings high volume, with the high pressure springs and I never had a issue with it Cost wise they are not expensive in the scheme of things
    • Just bought a 2002 Stagea 250tRS VR-X Four AERO VQ25DET and spent the last two weekends cleaning and detailing it.. still have to do the wheels and the engine bay but the rest of it came up nice. Imported 2011 to S.A. and I'm the third owner since it was imported. I met the guy who brought it over, he went to Japan and picked out the car, bought it and ordered the wheels. He also gave me a list of stuff he did to the car with receipts. Coil overs (I have the original springs), 3" exhaust from the dump pipe back no cat, Custom dump pipe,(I have the original exhaust), Plenum spacer, 18" custom Work XSA wheels (need restoring, I've made a start..), Shift kit put through the 5 speed tiptronic auto, TV and menus/screens changed to english, Australian DTV tuner installed in rear. I've just had four new discs and new pads as well as all the fluids including the brake fluid replaced. I have all the receipts for the last 15 years and the import papers in a nice folder. Car looks great, goes like hell but fuel economy is not a thing lol.. pics next..
    • I ended up in this rut again lol, and used a shit ton of filler. One thing I can't understand is, even after using a big long block and going in long X pattern strokes, I always end up at bare metal again with no filler, and my repair started at one end of the door and now I've chased my tail to almost the other end of the door. I was thinking of hitting the panel with a hammer where it might be a high spot and making everything low then filling it, I did this on a small section on my other door by mistake and I think I fixed it lol. Is this a bad idea? The other thing is with guidecoat, whether it's the powder or spray, after I sand all the guide coat off, it doesn't reveal anything for me in terms of high spots and low spots and makes it especially hard when it's bare metal (at least in powdered form), am I doing something wrong here, or likely a high spot I keep going over and creating valleys? Lastly, stupid question but, is it possible that after sanding if I only sand over the filler area where I know to be a dent that it's impossible for me to dig into that dent? Unless there are other problems which I missed.
