"ACTIVE" means they have amps built into the box. new reflex tech, thats been around for at least 30 years.

most active subs are average. a pickup truck sub box active could fit under the rear deck on some

a thin sub would be fine with a small amp to match. they do make subs that fit the spare tyre rim ? or you can make one out of fiberglass, I have a mold for the R34 spare tyre, not the well, but the tyre rim itself. you have room to hide amps in the boot . and subs can fit in the side panels on all cars. 12" fit on R34 gtt. and wont use any space at all.!!! its a wasted space behind the panels.

so a thin sub, small box on one side, small amp on the other would be the go ?

or if you want to feel bass but not use any space, a bass shaker bolted to your seats works , give the illusion of bass but not the spl.

a creative pro installer can hide your system and use minimal space , but isnt dirt cheap and a not 1 day job

cheers for that,

The new technology I've been told about is new to me, but it may be 30 years old.

It's a new internal lining which somehow changes the characteristics of the enclosure to make it sound like it has more volume than it actually has.

Sorry, I've forgotten the name of it.

Know it ?

polyfill can give you around 20% more volume if done right

a longer expansion/compression port , or a double port - one inside the box, the other outside. (bandpass box)

So far the most impressive I can find is a Soundstream unit.

Good price in the States but freight is a bummer.

This will be going close behind the back seat.

I'm assuming facing it forward into the seat will be the first test, then I'll spin it at 90 degrees and play with the phase control.

Looking at spending around $250 all up.

freight from the US cost a bunch and now the dollar is shite again. the cost to ship will match the cost of the item.I get stuff all the time..lol

250 all up for box and sub ? or amped sub? your going to have to haggle a bunch Id say. or make your own ?

this one ?

http://www.soundstream.com/AudioProducts/Subwoofers/USB-8A.html

beware of SOUNDSTORM, its rubbish, and looks like soundstream both in name and look

I would recommend a Bazooka Tube, powered model over the soundstream, plus it will fit better under the rear deck. little more space but sounds way better.

second choice if you can find one, Pyle powered tube ? or Rockford Fosgate powered box if you have room. Chris Rogers sells Rockford off here ?

if you buy a box aim the sub towards the back of the car, lots better bass, unless you have a 4dr with ski tunnel for sound ?

Can't fit a bazooka.

And they seem old in design now, but I believe you they probably sound better than the slim enclosures.

What are BOSS Audio like, they appear very low in cost.

I'm aware you get what you pay for, but it's not always the case.

I have Fusion splits in the doors and 6 x 9's under rear windows, which is a bad location.

I'm gonna try stuffing poly bat insulation in the void to contain the bass and clean it up, but still need those lower hertz.

So still looking at a slim enclosure.

cheers

Bazooka is a old design, I have some of my own from before bazooka existed , and its still a effective tube design. . if you want box/tube plans shoot me the size you have and I'll make you some. then you just buy a cheap amp to slap on the box. dont forget you need wiring, RCA's etc.

Boss, is ok for cheap, but for a few bucks more you can have much better. dont save 5 bucks then have to rip it out for repairs in weeks.

thanks, for the offer man.

I've just sold my subs so would have to buy a new driver anyway.

I'll give the Boss a go, just need a few subtle lows.

I stuffed insulation behind my 6x9's, sounds cleaners that's for sure, but still f^%$ all bass.

cheers

i have two Blaupunkt 8 inch compact subs for under seat - Thb 200 a , if you can fit the Thb250a these are way enough bass made by blaupunkt , i love these sound fu...ckn awesome for there size !

A bit pricey but well worth it if you dont have the room !

Hey guys, i also had this issue when it came to choosing a setup which was space conscious without sacrificing too much sound quality. For various reasons i didn't want anything taking up space in the boot so i opted to go with an under-the-seat setup for my amplifier and sub

under the passenger seat i went with a Focal Solid 4 amplifier which was bridged to provide cleaner power to my front coaxials - there is less space under the passenger seat as the height is set to a default with no way of adjustment

under the driver's seat we went with a Focal BUS25 under-the-seat sub which was able to be fitted without too much compromise to the seating position

in my opinion (subjective and to be taken with a grain of salt) as a bit of a bass junky i was somewhat surprised with the BUS25's ability to fill out that lower octave of sound to compliment the midbass of my coaxials. I also found that having the sub under the seat provided a good stage for the bass as the sound didn't have to travel through the boot, chassis, seats to reach me - rather it was right under me which i think somewhat balances out the negatives of having a smaller, less powerful sub.

my only advice would be to spend good coin ($500~) on a good set of splits (morel, cresendo, focal, german maestro, rainbow to name a few) aswell as some dynamat for the front doors to help seal in to provide a solid midbass to make up for some of the punch the under-the-seat sub lacks.

here's some pics of the amp and sub i went with

Focal Solid 4 - $600~

pretty sure that rules out focal and most others as well

I totally get it, you get what you pay for.

Right now I'm saving up do tweak my wifes MINI without her knowledge, so looking for an interim satisfactory sound, for the long drive down to Shepparton.

My system is 10 years old, amp even older(Sony 504X), and the Fusions are entry level but accurate none the less.

Head unit also has a faulty trigger, had to bypass and just loop acc wire.

One day I'll start over. Focal looks like great place to start.

Cheers

Just wired up the Boss 8 inch unit.

Got it in the boot facing sideways.

Does quite well for a single 8 inch driver, but no comparison for twin 10 inch wedge boxes.

A bit underpowered ,and has low distorion levels.

Another bad thing, these things don't come with brackets or any mounting screws/holes.

I think it's stupid they are designed just to sit under your seat loose to rattle and jump against the rails.

So sorry but I'm gonna say it again.

I hate my F%$#%%&^% stereo.

Troy, when are you gonna move to Sydney.

lol I wish adelaide is boring. nanny state

but I have a killer view that wouldnt be a option in the east without some serious funds

I could just fly around consulting on audio ..lol and teach the young guns the old tricks

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
