Hi,

Have just bought a set of R34 GTR wheels, which I think are: 18x9+30

Am after some tires, and am interested in a set that would cost me around $1000.

Looking for low profiles, long wearing, and reasonable grip for general driving.

They'll be going on a R34 GTT

I was looking at a set of Kumho KU31's 255/35/18, but not sure how much they would be, and if they would be suitable.

Thanks,

Jacob

Have a look around locally then have a look at importing your own, I've used www.tirerack.com in the states, for under $1000 you can have delivered to your door tyres which if purchased in Australia would cost nearly twice as much.

My last lot were Dunlop Direzza 245/45 17 which cost me $145 a tyre( $450 each here) or $930 for 4 delivered to my door, I'm in the process of getting some more tyres at the moment, I'm looking at Hankook RS 3 (?)$120 a tyre at the moment, worth $310 here, even with the $350 delivery and fitting costs I save about $300.

Shipping takes about 5 days.

The only people who will tell you importing you own tyres is a bad idea are Australian tyre distributors for some reason.

Shop smart.

You can get KU31s from Option 1 in Brisbane sent to you for approx the same money as buying from tirerack, without the extra hassle of having to go to the bank and do an overseas money transfer. At the $1000 price point there's not enough in it to make tirerack the convincing choice.

I bought wheels and tyres from tirerack, and because it all added up to a lot of $$, it was well worthwhile. But I bought my last 2 sets of KU36s from Option 1 because it's just that much easier and the extra $50 or so is not worth the hassle.

That said, after you pay to get tires that you've bought at a distance ($15-$20 each) fitted, you start to wonder about the sense. My next set of KU36s I'm just going to buy from TyrePower on Sir Donald Bradman Drive, Mile End. They've promised to match what I would pay in total sourcing them from elsewhere and fitting there. GI'd suggest perhaps you get a price from Option 1, and ring up TyrePower and ask them to match/beat it. I prefer to support the local guys any time I can make it make $$ sense.

By the way, the KU31 will be a good choice for you. They work well, last well, reasonably quiet and comfortable. I'm not suggesting that there aren't other tyres in that space which might not be better, but they are definitely good value. If you move up to the KU36, you will love the extra grip, but not having to replace them twice as often!

LOL @ not enough in it to make tirerack the convincing choice

Dude KU31s are budget tyres whereas the dunlop is the top of line Z1 star spec which is the difference between heaven and earth. KU31 will provide no where near the grip the Z1 star spec provides.

Why are you laughing? It's because he is looking at cheaper tyres that it's not worth going to tirerack. If you'd read my post you would see that I clearly said that when spending a LOT of money, it IS worth going to tirerack. But if you're only saving $50 or so, I'd rather save myself some hassle and just buy locally.

By the way, how long do the star specs last? Their wear rating is 200, the KU31 is at 320. So he'll get many more miles to his $ even if he buys KU31s here at the same total cost to getting the star specs in from the US. And if you read his post, he did ask about long wearing.

I know of beaurepaires.com.au/tyres , where you have the option of inputting some preferences on your tyre needs (e.g. wet braking, dry braking, mileage, etc). They have a collection of tyres you can choose from once the search results/recommendations have been given. On the other hand, you can just directly browse over their car tyre selections. From their car tyres page, there are descriptions as to which each tyre is best used for. Hope that helps!

    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
