Hehe it feels like a need a lighter flywheel

In mine, third and fourth are the best gears - it only really starts to boogie once the needle is past 100km/h, and over 160km/h it really shines. Fifth is a bit tall for good acceleration until you start making serious power, but it'll still pull the needle all the way around until it hits the fuel gauge, great for novelty points

Only problem is that you can only really use it to its best on the track. Second is still good fun (and great for blowing away ricers) but out on the track is where it comes into its own.

Well my bike indicates 134km/h on the rev limiter in first gear, which is half way between second and third in the line, and with a bad launch (~2.1 60') that'll be over in around 5 seconds. Half track at the drags in 7.4 at just over 105mph (~169km/h), which would be the top of third gear in the line, so you'd need to change gears three times (into fourth) in that 7½ seconds. You'd be in first for about 1½ sec of that given the crap launch, in second for maybe 2½ sec, and third would be the other 3½ seconds. A proper launch would easily wipe a few tenths off that. So if you can imagine having to change gears that quickly, control the throttle and the clutch, and keep it off the walls, you've got a fair idea. The bike is quicker at half track than the car is at full track

It's a pretty cool feeling crossing the 400m mark at well over 200km/h :) I need to scab a ride on a GSXR1000 or something, now THAT would be exciting down the strip...

Running the bike has actually given me better car control - the Skyline is much slower, so there's more time to think. What I mean is, I know what 170km/h in under 7.5 sec feels like, so doing less than 130km/h in 9.5 sec is much easier.

Not trying to sound like a tool, just trying (badly) to explain it :)

I cant even begin to imagine what it would be like in a 10/11sec car

It gets hard when you're only JUST scraping the upper limit of the higher number there, Ben  That said, it gets MUCH better the more you do it :))))

Adrian

Hey Guys. What does it feel like when you plant your foot in 1st gear? What are its most powerful gears? (in a Skyline)

A stockish answer to your question:

1st gear is good to get some whiplash happening but it usually ends in wheel spin when pushed even a fraction too hard. 2nd is where the fun begins, putting you back in your seat and preparing for 3rd. Once you hit 3rd watching the needle shoot from 100 to 150 odd is awesome! Past that, 4th slows down a bit but still pulls hard beyond what can be read off the stock speedo.... then you know you're moving :P

The most powerful gear is 1st hence the ease of wheelspin. I feel the power most in 2nd then 3rd. 2nd is my fav gear, esp thru the twisties :(

What car were you comparing to?

my best gear is 1st gear heaps of power then 2nd and 3rd.

hey for a qtr mile time i got a 13.58 with pfc, exhaust, fmic, 12psi boost. I had 2 12'' subs as well. Does that sound right?

my mate got a 14.00 sec with standard ecu, exhaust, 10psi boost and no subs.

what u guys reckon?

Sounds about average dude. The trick is the launch, not that Im a master at it but the more you do it the better you get at it.

I lurve 1-2-3 gears

1st - waste of time

2nd - fun for scaring the everyday commuters (fishtailing always gets their attention)

3rd - can be interesting on cold tyres. Good for instant overtaking power on warm tyres.

4th - overtaking at high speed and cruising at medium speeds.

5th - high speed cruising and the track.

The above really depends on the tyre temps. When the Nittos aren't warm it's wheelspin city.

Would be up around 200 at a guess. Easiest way is to go halfway up the tacho, then double the speedo. Eg if it cuts out at 8000, go to 4k and read the speedo. If it shows say 98km/h, double that. That'd be your 'indicated' speed anyway, as for how fast you're really going, well who really knows, but as an indication, at 110 on the speedo my PFC shows 106.

With those mods I would be expecting a little more. Just got my 33 GTR from compliance about 4 weeks ago, took it to Willowbank completely stock (except for BBS rims and Yoko 265 tyres and APEXi BOVs) and ran a 13.467, although the clutch was fairly average by the 8th run. I have a friend with a 33 GTR also, with similar mods to you, and although he hasn't taken it down the quater he is definately quicker than me, by a fair margin.

Will definitely be posting dyno charts when they're done.

I was using 75hp jets for the 11.9.

Adrian

I reckon go for 10's on the standard turbo mate. Just have some spare cash for an engine rebuild ready when you up the shot.

What fuel and nitrous jet sizes are you using for the 75 shot?

Yeh i know thats what i thought. Im removing the subs this weekend and gona give it another shot. The problem i think is when i up the boost to 15psi, there is a big lag between gear change and spool up. any suggestions? When i lower boost say 12psi its quick? Very strangle and will need to get it looked at.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
