Excelent times mate for your set up, so whats you trick with your 60' times?? You must be running slicks??

ThanX Robo

Im using a set of very well worn Bridgestone Potenza's RE540s 225/50/16's... there street slicks. I think I will be looking at a set of Nitto's before long..

Ben thanx for the update.. I will be out to get a scanner today so I can send you my best time slip... You know the one I showed you at WSID on Saturday...

Adding NOS on it's own will not yeild you a 12 second pass... At the end of the day Adrian is a very good racer and no one can take that from him...

I may not be abled to do it again, I dont know, but I believe I will... I see guys go to the track with the same amount of power and cant peddle it for sh1t... It comes down to practice and been abled to understand what the fcuk is going on when you launch your whale...

Adrian jump in anytime here mate

I haven't got a Skyline, but rather it's little brother - an Australian delivered S15/200SX

60' 1.912

330' 5.392

660' 8.210

mph 87.53

1000' 10.670

ET 12.741

MPH 109.01

running 195rwkw, 80% worn Bridgestone Potenza RE540S (street tyre) at 20psi tyre pressure, 2001 S15 SR20, standard turbo, manual bleed valve at 15psi boost and full street trim (including spare, sub-box, tools etc.).

Okay I will :D

I have been practicing and learning more and more about my car and my abilities over the last 12 to 18 months.

*******************************

A BRIEF LOOK BACK:

- When I first took this car to the drags (E.C.Raceway strip), it went 14.1 @ 107mph.

- Then I turned the boost up and went two tenths slower. (Wheelspin).

- When I went back again (the bug had bitten), I was elated to find that I had broken into the 13's. 13.9 @ 103mph from memory with a 2.2 60' .

- This was the eye opener. I had gone as fast as 107mph previously but hadn't run a 13 till this.

- A better launch saw the ET's drop at a great rate. Most people (me included) begin by thinking that your ET automatically gets better with more power.

- From here the focus shifted to getting off the line better and with this came much bigger grins :D

- Fast forward to 2 months ago and my car went 13.0 @ 108mph. No more power than before, same tune, no more boost than before, same tyres as before, same driver as before but with a 60' time of 1.9 sec flat.

******************************

As you can see, it's a far cry from 18 months ago and 14.3 seconds. The mph has hardly changed (the best indicator of power at the drags), but the driver is a whole lot more practiced and has had some helpful advice from friends. I get to the track every chance I can and I'm constantly trying something different.

If I could offer one bit of advice that meant something to everyone it would be this:

-------- Get REALLY good tyres and save your 'power-up' money for when you're maximising the power you already have. ---------

ThanQ

Couldn't of said it better my self...

I have hardly improved my speed from the first time out at the Wizzard from 13.9 to a 12.9. I have however learnt a little about launching and this is where it all is.. When I get better at the launch I will get better ET's

I could how ever throw more horse power at it and get faster times but this is not as rewarding to me as learning to get the maxamin outta the available traction I have...

Im still learning and it goes on forever :headbang:

All very good advice Adrian. Now I just need to learn how to launch like you and Sam do!

I think my biggest problem to date has been the fact that every time I've gone back to the strip it's been with new upgrades to the car.

    • After using a protractor for an actually accurate assessment of what is required,  and by NOT using my uncalibrated eyeball I worked out I need a 25° silicone bend from the TB ro the MAF, but, my choice was either a 30° or a 23° (23° is a weird spec), so I grabbed the 23° one from Raceworks I also grabbed 1mtr of 3" straight from Just Jap, I needed 350mm, but they only had 300mm, or 1mtr lengths....meh Also ordered a 1/2" hose bulkhead fitting from fleabay, this has a smoothish mushroom looking head (they are designed for below the water line of boats) that will fit inside the bend, the hose bit and threaded bit looks to long, but nothing that a hacksaw cannot fix if required, the hose will then just get jamed on the threaded bit up to the retaining nut Fingers crossed and the unsightly amount of hose clamps will be reduced down to 4 once all the parts arrive
    • Oil change does not trigger code 21. Code 21 is for coilpacks primary side connection. You can try to clear the code with a battery disconnect, hold down the brake pedal to drain capacitors through the brake lights with the ignition on for 10-15 seconds before you reconnect the battery. I have seen R35 coil conversion permanently cause this code with no ill effects so it might be the resistance it wants to see isn't quite right on one or more coilpacks. Could be inside the ECU, could be the harness, could be a coil. You can test it all if you want or just ignore until the car actually starts misfiring.
    • I forgot you have a Nistune ECU. Use Nistune to do all the tests I mentioned instead of faffing with 30+ year old electrical connectors. You can read MAF volts off that too, there are reference values in the service manual to tell you roughly what it should be in different conditions.
    • No. I think it might be the AFM. Hence the use of the terms "swaptronics", which implies the use of swapping out electronics for the purpose of diagnosis. It's about the only way to prove that a small/niggling/whatever problem with an AFM or a CAS or similar is actually caused by that AFM/CAS/whatever. A known good item swapped in that still gives the same problem is likely to be caused somewhere else. They're all the same. Spraying AFMs with cleaner is an each way bet between cleaning it and f**king it.
    • Oh wow! This might actually work amazingly. Do you know the ratio of the diff? I was told the only thing you need to make sure of is if the front & rear diff ratios are the same. Ours is a 4.083 Thanks!
