This is mine, blits fibre glass bonnet, legal and lighter than my stock R33 GTST bonnet, I was after something to maximise the flow through my I/C, radiator and oil cooler.

AFAIK no carbon bonnet is legal and alot have the look but not the physics.

Hi mate,

I have never heard of a CF bonnet being FDA approved but I stand to be corrected. When you say it is legal (and please educate me here) how do you coin this and what proves it is?

It's made to comply with ADR and comes with a certification which has a serial number on the bonnet and the certificate matched to the vehicle, its all on the blits web site, to comply it needed to be tested, at and at least 3mm thick and have reinforcing.

It's all written up in the ADR and the RTA website under fiberglass replacement panels.

Yes, I agree with you on this one. I just tested some CF bonnets and Al ones and you're right - not much of a huge difference. The truth is, most people choose to go vented CF bonnet for looks more than performance.

The sad truth ...

And to be honest, CF bonnets has lost a lot of its aesthetic appeal over the years...

Hi mate - yeah I agree...and it is true that most people go for the aesthetic appeal over performance (me one of them in the past I must admit) - but I just don't like the look now more...for some reason the clean stock look is more appealing nowadays, wouldn't you agree?

Well that's new to my ears. May I ask how much did this cost you and where you bought this bonnet from? Also, do you have bonnet pins and how good is the bonnet latch in terms of keeping the bonnet down at high speeds?

$700 in gel coat from BLITS BODY KITS in Queensland, I've had it at 220ish ( not really looking at speed, more so braking points because I'm a scaredy cat) at eastern creek so far, the bonnet latch has extra reo on it and Blits say you don't need pins.

Best bet is to ring them and ask.

Last time I knew anything the FDA stood for the 'Food and Drug Administration' and only looked after licensing food and drugs in the US :P Dunno when they started doing carbon fibre bonnets and cars haha

I need a new bonnet. I don't particularly care if it's CF,FRP or aluminium, but I just want something that fits well but isn't too expensive, and doesn't have the ugly vents. I'm leanign towards a CF bonnet purely for the fact I won't have to paint it. What do you guys recommend?

There's a few places that do a stock CF hood. Suss a few traders on here. Seibon I think almost certainly do but you'll pay for it. Just Jap possibly do too.

    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
