SHOWOFFR32
Hey all, I'm trying to remove my engine out of my R34 GTR?? I have everything off the motor, the mounts off, and the engine crane attached, however when I try and pull the engine away from the gearbox and up and out of the bay, it only comes away about 2cm and then can't be pulled away anymore?? Is there some sort of special trick to getting it off or am I going to have to unbolt the gearbox and try and slide it back a bit to get the input shaft out? I've spent two days on this motor now and I'm keen to get it out hahah Any help would be appreciated... BOOZTJUNKEY
I'm a lil confused I read that as your trying to take the motor out of ur car? But leave the gearbox in the car ? And the box is still bolted to the block? Well if that's the case u need to unbolt the box before u can seperate the two There isn't really a trick if everything is UNDONE then they should separate might be a bit of jiggling and pulling lol but they will come hahaha Why don't u just take the box out with the engine it would be a alot easier to unbolt the box outta the car Also its not easy to bolt a box up under a car! It's real fiddly and without a hoist can be a reason to go postal lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388050-motor-wont-come-away-from-gearbox/#findComment-6186050 Share on other sites
Duncan
there is a trick, the 34 uses a pull clutch, you need to unclip the fork. There is an R pin you have to remove and then the fork will slide off. and don't forget you will have to put that bloddy pin back in on re-assembly Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388050-motor-wont-come-away-from-gearbox/#findComment-6186184 Share on other sites
SHOWOFFR32
When I said unbolt the gearbox, I ment the cross member holding the gearbox in and try and pull the gearbox back away from the motor... Of course the box is unbolted from the block! I doubt anyone on here would be that stupid hahah This R clip, where is it?? And how do I get to it?? turboedsloth
where the clutch fork goes into the bellhousing, shine a torch up through the hole and you should see it. Flick with a screwdriver should release it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388050-motor-wont-come-away-from-gearbox/#findComment-6186425 Share on other sites
doo doo
might also add in the 32GTR i found it difficult get the motor out with the clutch still on as there's not enough room, so I take the box off and clutch off before taking the engine out (pretty sure i had the radiator out too). Not sure if it'll be the same with the 34, but be prepared for this. There's a clip on the pressure plate that you can pop to release the bearing- you can see the metal lip/ring in the photo- put a screwdriver under it and lift while pulling the bearing out to release it, access is via the clutch fork hole. Failing that take out the clip and rod that the clutch fork pivots on. (You can re-assemble it before putting the box back on as the release bearing self attaches when pushed in). Hope that makes sense Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388050-motor-wont-come-away-from-gearbox/#findComment-6186429 Share on other sites
33GTRV
ok. To release the pull mech on the gtr box, undo the slave from the side of the box and remove the rubber boot from over the fork. Then gently apply pressure to the fork and look into the hole, in there you will see the input shaft going through the bearing and into the clutch. If you get a flat bladed screwdriver, you can slip it under the small lip on the bearing, then rotate the screwdriver and it should release. It looks difficult, and it may take you 2 or so goes at it, but once you get the nack its cake to do Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388050-motor-wont-come-away-from-gearbox/#findComment-6187079 Share on other sites

t_revz
luckily you found the answer before any damage was done like that poor fella who had his mechanic cut a big hole in the bellhousing so he could reach in and unbolt the clutch Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388050-motor-wont-come-away-from-gearbox/#findComment-6188298 Share on other sites
ylwgtr2
its very easy to put back on....you assemble the assy in the bellhousing prior to connecting it to the engine....then you activate the circlip in the thrust bearing by pushing the clutch arm toward the clutch then the circlip snaps in the pressure plate Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388050-motor-wont-come-away-from-gearbox/#findComment-6188646 Share on other sites
luke gtr
luckily you found the answer before any damage was done like that poor fella who had his mechanic cut a big hole in the bellhousing so he could reach in and unbolt the clutch WTF!!!!!! lesson one: take car to mechanics that know at least something about imports....
