I thought you could get harnesses that allowed the factory buttons to integrate with the after market head units?

Iain, you linked to one on ebay on the other forum when Leon bought it up?

There's this sort of thing that someone has had reasonable success with I think: http://www.amazon.com/Metra-ASWC-Universal-Steering-Interface/dp/B0039H2W66

And found this guide (prob not too helpful): http://caraudiomag.com/articles/steering-wheel-control-interface-install

BTW, Nissan switches will set you back about $77 - $85. Come in a pair with cruise on RHS, audio on LHS, but if you're keen you can cut one side off & just use the balnk panel.

What brand/where did you get it from Dale? I assume following the simple rules on this m35info forum thread is the way to go:

BTW, do you need the TV tuner in place to have a camera?

This is the camera I have, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/330593460224?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648 and some magic from Andy65b will hopefully have it up and running using only the factory TV tuner.

Yes you do need the Factory TV setup.

Yay, just got word that we won the auction. 2002 Nissan Stagea 250t Rs Four V Hicas (102,000kms), Grade 4/B, in Silver with Black Leather and Aero kit.

It has the Single DIN factory stereo in it with the 3 gauges above it. The question about factory options, can you fit the steering audio buttons retrospectively? Or easier to just replace the steering wheel with them on (unless of course the steering wheel has some form of keyed security in it).

Mate; congrats; the Aero kit makes them look so much nicer; and with Hicas, also comes factory LSD. Is nice... I reckon you're better off with the single din headunit, then you can do your own thing; Band Expanders shit me.

The buttons are an easy fit; just need to remove the steering wheel, and there are several adaptors doing the rounds on Ebay and Amazon to make basically any buttons work with any compatible headunit. The only caveat seems to be that you don't seem to always end up with full functionality on the wheel; you'll get station tuning and volume control, but not full control i.e. mode etc (volume & tuning I would be happy with).

Love to se a pic when you have some.

yup, but only for aftermarket head units. not the factory single DIN one as it has no input for the functions

A couple of you wanted to see the car we bought at Auction last week, well here it is:

Will look at fitting up the 'commsman' cruise and audio controls and replace the factory HU with an aftermarket one that is compatible (via adaptor harness) with steering wheel controls. Something like the Alpine CDE-123BTi or CDE-133BT would probably do the trick. Just need to confirm which adaptor harness I'd need.

Wife and I are pretty happy with the buy, and I have a budget set aside to get some suspension and appropriately sized rims to go along with it.

Cheers

Brendan

Looks great Brendan!

Commsman's cruise is one of the best things you'll do for it; and some rims suspension work will make it a very nice day to day machine.thumbsup.gif
