So dunno if you guys haven't heard about this and aren't excited, or have heard about it an assumed everyone had also... But there is a new PC coming out from the UK. It's the size of a credit card and was primarily devoloped to be supplied to schools to encourage kids to learn to program. You plug in your mouse, KB, SD card with apps/OS, power (micro-USB), a monitor (HDMI) and you're off. There are some pretty cool possibilities with the Raspberry Pi; From real Pip Boys, to a new range of Carputers, to home media centres (can play full 1080p), to kids actually learning how to program. The Raspberry Pi speaks Python and is going for real low cheap. How Cheap? $25-$35 (there are 2 models thus far - 128 and 256mb). Unfortunately they are sold out at the moment, and their website crashed 2 days ago on launch from the demand. But the world will eventually get a slice of the Pi. May even give me a chance to learn how to use Python...

Check it out!

did you end up gettign this Madaz?

was thinking of getting it to run in the car as well!

They still havent got emissions certification so no customers have them yet. You might want to wait till the second batch come out though as they will be cased and may have more options (more RAM, I/O etc).

any release dates on the second batch ?

I haven't seen any but even if there were some dates available I wouldn't have much faith in them being adhered to. I don't think they have even decided on a design yet. There are plenty of people making their own cases so it might be worth considering. A mate had a mini ITX computer set up inside a remote control car body (Skyline of course). With the smaller footprint of the Raspberry you could do it with a plastic airfix model, or a tupperware box or anything.

Someone designed this Lego case - check here for some other ideas people have had http://www.raspberrypi.org/forum/general-discussion/cases-for-the-raspberry-pi

Just an update - the PIs are now being received by customers.

There is quite a backlog so if one is ordered today it won't be received until about July.

I think the case design is finalised but you can't actually order it yet.

    • Oof. One of my mates has an R34 GT-R that he initially was a "I want to go twins for response and convenience" on his stock 2.6 with Kelford 272 cams, but his friends are pests and were always in his ear about their place being in the bin.   Eventually one of the 2860-5s decided to add it's own input and force his hand, so he conceded and went for a Pulsar 6262G ("G35 900") with T4 0.85 hotside.    Here's an overlay of the results, same cams, same stock bottom end, same boost, same fuel, just from a pretty tidy 2860-5 install to a Pulsar turbo on a 6boost maniifold on BP98.   Worth mentioning here, it may seem like a dead horse thing but the dyno plot doesn't tell the story of how much better it is to drive - transient response has completely changed the car, he used to have flat foot shifting to stop it having to wind up again on gear changes even at >7000rpm... now it builds boost faster than that even short shifting.   It's 100% transformed the car before you even consider how much better it holds on: Pulsar and Garrett aren't the same, but from our experience if you're just looking for a better drive and the ability to make the same or more power I think the divided G30 770 would probably be the smallest I'd go to.
    • Great work Duncan, any events local you will give it a test once all done?
    • Sweet, yeah hoping stock gears will hold up. May use the transbrake feature on hill climb starts so that will test it.
    • Yeah, the thread is only nearly 20 years old.
    • Been down in Tassie for 2 weeks (a cruise, not a race for once) but spent a little time on her when I got back. I worked out the injector settings in the PowerFC were not correct for nismo 555s, set those to 66% +10ms and added a little air at closed throttle, set the timing (approximately, because it has some weird non 15o cells around idle) and now she starts and idles properly. She purrs like a kitten (ignore the co2 alarm in the background, I did  ) 20250518_171052.mp4 Next step, off for run-in, tuning and alignment!
