Just found out my squeaky clutch might be a thrust bearing...more $$ into maintenance so the shocks are gonna have to wait a while.

BTW: what would you guys in SA reccomend for paint treatment(cut & polish products or places that offer the service). Looking to get my car looking at least close to new before my mum totally freaks (she says it doesn't look too impressive...she's a Saab driver :)) and she totally hates how it looks so...worn

Rest of the car is pretty stock...exhaust is mild steel and no car got complied as a stock vehicle...I need to buy some legal parts for it because the ones that came with the car is too low for my likes. Also have no idea about what rate the springs are.

What do you mean it squeeks dude? Is it like a 'Ching' sound when u move into gear? I have an OS-Giken twin plate and it rattles when i put my foot all the way down to the on the clutch, but thats normal for my clutch. the squeek doent sound right though! Some clutches i have heard in cars that are really heavy dutie make a 'Ching' sound when you go into gear i can't remember the manufacturers name though.

My friend has a twin plate(OS-Giken I think) in his 180sx and his rattle more than mine when you leave it in neutral and push in the clutch. Mine is rather quiet but the bite is REALLY savage...no room for error. I don't really have a problem with the bite of the clutch or the heavyness, it's just annoying (metal on metal kinda like when your brakes squeal when the pad is unevenly worn) type of squeak when it engages into any gear. It really does sound like metal being twisted. Rob at PVP said it "could" be a bearing and it isn't normal for it to sound like that so I decided to look further into it. I've heard multi plate clutches before and mine is unique sounding :)

Any other places guys? $400 seems a bit steep but I guess you should judge the finish quality I guess. Anyone used Car Toys for this service and what is your opinion?

If it's over $200 I might just go get some Meguires and try myself.

If you dont want to do it yourself go down and see Lez at finishline in Norwood, they have done alot of cosmetics to my cars over the last year or so. Anyways CarToys has always been a tad over priced in my experience.

True car toys are expensive and not real car detailers. They hire a detailer to do it? so they would have to make a bit on the side for them.

In regards to ur clutch, if it is ur thrust bearing, u dont have to fix it, it aint gonna effect the performance of the clutch. I think my clutch thrust bearing has been stuffed since i got the car, and that was a year and a bit ago. My car makes an annoying rattling sound when out but it goes away when pressed in. Its not the same sound a twin plater makes thou.

Sure it wasn't ur g/f making the annoying rattling sound before you pressed in?!?!

Just Teasing...

Well the squeak doesn't happen when it's out and it isn't squesking when I push the pedal(it just rattles), it squeaks just before it bites fully. That's the best explaination I can do.

I'd rather another noise from my girlfriend rather than a squeak when I press in!

I agree. I wouldn't bother replacing the thrust bearing. As long as the clutch isn't slipping i wouldn't bother with that either.

You guys might have to hear it in person, people look at my car all the time...not coz its an nice skyline but I see them turn their heads when I engage my clutch. It really is load, My friend commented to me when he was standing by my car that it sounds louder than my engine+exhaust (at 4K launch)

That sounds like it needs a tad of attention then! otherwise it will make ur car sound ****ed, and drive you nuts.

Update on clutch:

Was thrust bearing, very worn and getting it replaced. Also had good news about it! The clutch is an OS Giken triple so I'm pretty happy with a bonus to the car, but theres bad news as well. Just found out my rear left shock is leaking so I'm gonna be looking at new ones in the near future...just waiting for more $$ :D

congrats mate. Also triple plate clutch, daim what mods has this beast of urs got, Or HAD hehe

Yeah, was wondering what the car HAD to deem the use of a triple plate...haven't looked INSIDE the engine for obvious reasons but I really can't see anything special in the car mods-wise. I know it had a timer(holes under the dash) and aftermarket stereo coz the wires were butchered...seems the previous owner went to the trouble of hear shielding the brake+oil lines( I think...back right of engine bay).

Only reason I can think of why its in there is its overkill! :P

    • Power steering is probably because someone has nuked the HICAS CU and you no longer have the variable power asist doing what it is supposed to. How much boost are you running? You are aware that any more than 10 psi on the stock ECU is just asking for it to go to full R&R (that's Rich & Retard, which is effectively Retarded and Retarded!) which kills all the power. Depending on the exact conditions, it can just be runnign on the fat and stupid end of the maps, then the conditions change, you make a little more boost and the ECU goes into panic.
    • @BuiltNotBought Just as GTSboy said.   If you want driveabilty and more low down torque..keep the stock runners. They are VERY good from a factory. I have them too on my RB25DET NEO and as a GTSboy i have fmic but with stock piping route(i have Blitz intercooler) Iam making around 320 BHP and the car pulls "hard" from like 2,5k all the way to 7k. I have it dyno tuned to mimic N/A power curve and making little less max torque due to the smallbox tranny. But driveability is very great. I had 350Nm below 3k so car feels very quick.
    • Looking to sort out a couple of issues on my skyline  It recently was rebuilt, however rebuilder long story short did not give two flying effs about the work he did. So moving forward it's running but I have two persistent issues 1) it has a misfire / lag type of issue (was at higher RPMs but I had a dead piggy back ecu removed which improved it) now it's not as bad but still does it at random, I thought it may have been a boost issue I'm running an older turbosmart dual stage controller, turbosmart told me to try running off gate pressure however it still has a lag at random times. It has New MAF, maf plug, coil packs, sparks, CP harness.. injectors tested and cleaned. Factory ECU. 2) Power steering issue. It is tight as anything. Flushed power steering, rebuilt my pump because the bearing was shot. Flushed again still tight (mainly when parking and going slow into my driveway etc)  No kinks in hard lines, replaced the lines I could see had cracks. Still tough to steer.  I was told to shim a coin and place into the solenoid plug? Is there anything else. My steering angle sensor also has a issue. It's a used one I replaced, does it need to be calibrated? I feel like I've tried everything and this car is my voodoo doll.
    • Holy shit... wow!!! I totally missed this
    • One main filter. Each tank has a prefilter to keep rocks and small children out, then the big main filter that also does water separation. Clogged the first one so bad it was like a rev limiter at 3200rpm. Literally just like dropping the throttle off and maintaining rpm!
