there is a massive air leak from somewhere around 5th or 6th cylinder on the inlet side it sound like the plenum or throttle bodies are not sealing anyore to the gasket surfaces. the cars absolutely crap as it runs no vac and just bleeds out boost.

My question is can you remove the plenum while in the car.. it looks like a mean feat, how do i get to all the stuff underneath??? has anyone here done this and can shed some light on what order to go and some of the hidden nasties.???

thanks, Daniel..

I had the same issue and had to replace the intake gaskets behind the plenum. I found that while some workshops will happily quote you and say its possible to do in the car, the engine really does need to come out to do it properly, which in turn opens the door for other work to be performed at the same time.

UAS did the work on my car, removing the engine, fitting a Tomei metal intake gasket kit, new timing belt, new water pump and some other things at the same time. You will find there isnt a great difference in labour removing the engine, as trying to remove the plenum with the engine in is an absolute biatch of a job to say the least.

Id recommend the Tomei gasket kits though - give UAS a call if you have any questions.

yeah a rb26 is a fair bit different from a rb20 i have helped a mate do one on a commie rb20 its was a piece of cake compared to this debarkle, anyway i can say it can be done...and with the motor in there.. what i did was undo the engine mounts and jack the engine up 50 or 60mm do get to the air chamber under the plenum, ialso disconnected the tailshaft, firstly make sure you undo your loom and earth strap and wiring as this will restrict you getting the engine higher in the bay... then i got rid of the water chamber thing that disperses water to the head then it was pretty plan sailing from there but heaps of hours took me about 14 hours to do it all...but in the end it was all fine just a little loose didnt even use the new gasket, now its fixed but now i have a missfire instead... geez cars are fun to work on!!!
