Hi Guys,

Well finally got my install done, and I attached the Before & After Dyno Results.

Here's what I had in the Before Result which I got 270kwRW @ 15psi (approx 1.0 - 1.1 Bar)

- Stock Motor & Intercooler

- Power FC

- Cam Gears

- HKS Pods

- Standard Dumps, 2.5" into 3" downpipe, stock cat, 3.5" cat back

- Bleed Valve

Here's what I now have in the After Result, which I got 321kwRW @ 20psi boost (approx 1.3-1.4 Bar)

- Stock Motor & Intercooler

- Power FC

- Cam Gears

- Standard Air Box with K&N Filter

- Z32 AFM's

- Standard Dumps, 2.5" into 3" downpipe, stock cat, 3.5" cat back

- HKS EVC 4 Boost Controller

- HKS GT2530's with HKS 1bar Actuators

- SARD 700cc injectors

- Bosch 044 Fuel Pump

- Catch Can

**We think the cooler might be an AVO bar & plate around 70mm.. not sue on this

Some things I've noticed, car is a little laggier than stock, which was expected. Boost hits you around 4500-5000rpm, compared to 4000~. The car really does Pull hard all the way to 8000rpm, it feels like it could pull to 10,000rpm. Now I get scared by the power & not just my passangers. It's a little hard to describe the actual power increase, as I dont think the extra "peak power" of 50kw, justifies the true difference. I can only describe it as, before with the original turbos the car was very fast an pulled hard from 4000-7000~, but lacked the brutal power of force when compared to the after set up. It's sort of like comparing the zippy-ness of a WRX, to a brutal GTR. The WRX is zippy a quick, but the GTR is brutal & has the legs to keep on going.

Since picking it up yesterday, I've been thinking about Merli's decision to go with the GT-SS HKS Turbos. It would be interesting to see, as I probably think he's on the right track for TRUE Street driving power and not so much dyno/drag queen numbers. Previously, I would sit on 100-105kph in 4th and boot it, the car would launch off for overtaking. Now with the new set-up forget it, I have to hit 120kph before you feel any real launch. So now I have to put it in 3rd, but... and I say BUT... before you know the tacho is nearing 180kph.

The only minor hick-up which we're trying to sort out, is the car isn't starting consistantly. First we thought it was a battery issue, so replaced it with a bigger new battery. Helped but not much, so we think it could be a fuel issue related to the bosch pump... stay tuned.

Problem Fixed.. it's seems the SARD 700cc Injectors are "so called" lazy on start up, the battery upgrade to a 450cc helped, but a little tweaking on the dyno fixed our start up issues.

> Just put some Bridgestones SO3 on, they feel fantastic

> waiting for my OS Giken Twin Plate Clutch, currently have a heavy duty, that holds the power OK but useless if trying to take off.

meshmesh, those overlaid power curves are awesome ;) So much extra meat under the curve, you should be stoked :(:) :)

As for the extra 500rpm of lag... It doesn't sound like much, but you can really feel it can't you? To offset this, I suppose you can alter your camgear timing and sacrifice a little top end for more mid-range urge...

Also, look into camshafts. I have Tomei 260/260 PONCAMS, but I have a feeling I should have gone for the 260 IN/252 EX choice, after reading up on the Mines R34 GTR... That will give you a little more response too...

Looking great!!! Hopefully I can get my car built soon and post up what GT-SS turbos can do!

Suprised you haven't gone after market dumps and hi flow cat. The difference with these mods even on a stock GTST is very noticeable....

On the advice of the boys at ICE, they said not to do it. I had some ordered but cancelled them. In comparison to other GTR's with similar mods, I think they were correct. However... I do think it would help reduce lag. I'll wait & see.

Yes you "really" can feel the extra 500~rpm. But I guess I have to change my driving style to suit. The cam gears is an option, again the car has to go back so we might do some alterations.

Again, went down this path before the work was done, and the boys raised some good points. Saying, yes they'll make a difference, but unless I'm doing internals, no to bother as I'll just be putting more stress on the motor.

Nice results !!

I don't know how you GTR drivers can live with not getting full boost until like 4500-5000rpm. I'd be so annoyed of revving every gear out just to hit boost but then again 270kw is quite nice out of a basically stock setup :(

What type of starting problems are you having? If you leave the ignition on for 10sec and then kick it over does that solve your problem ? How did changing to a better battery 'improve' things?

No offence or anything, but I'd be a tad dissapointed with the results? Only 50 more rwkw on already 270, I'd expect more for a pair of 2530s hanging off the side with the extra (supposedly large) $$ spent?

Either way 320rwkw isnt something to be messed with heheh :) The 2530s have alot more torque under the curve :(

Oh btw Merli, the overlaid graph in the first link is not the comparo hahah

meshmesh - nice, didn't realise you were doing this, now i'd have no hope against you :P

what made you go to ice instead of back to racepace if you don't mind me asking?

i'm looking for turbo replacements .. not for the imediate future, but in the next year or two (or if the turbos go) So i will be following your progess.. i'm after similar to you and Merli - more response/useable power rather than dyno/drag power....

On another note i find my boost coming on (with my stock turbos etc..) at around 3000rpm not 4500-5000... and as you know i'm running a similar setup to your 270rwkw setup (no powerfc tho)...

i'm also not sure about the falloff at 8000rpm i can't notice that too much... maybe we can meet up and get a ride in each others cars to see the differences..?

Hi Busty... No offence taken, Initially that was my thinking. But it's not the case once you drive the car.

Something that sticks in my head is what sydneykid said and that was "best average power". Until you drive the thing, you wont fully appreciate the performance.

As a comparison markr34gtr got 305kwRW on 1.3bar, with the exact mods as me, but he also had HKS IC & Dumps, lightened flywheel... and he ran a high 11pass.

Considering the theory about dumps & open air pod filters, I opted against going with these, a left the stock dumps & fitted back the original cold air box.... and still managed the same if not more power as those with them installed. So I'm pretty happy :P

Ferni,

ICE have done all the work to my car from day one. The car was tuned on Racepace dyno in the Before Graph, that's all.

3000rpm?? you sure! Now you're probably not feeling the fall off, but once you feel the difference between both set-ups you'll understand what I'm talking about.

sidewaymambo,

Goes without saying.

well done meshmesh!

got to love the 2530's but i'm not convinced that your peak gain was a true 50rwkw. I notice that the 270 on bens dyno was not in shootout mode and his dyno figures are notoriously low. the 320 at Mk automotive was in shootout mode. take the usually 10% off and you are closer to 290. it would be intersting to see the results from the same dyno in the same mode.

Nice one. I was running 205rwkW (Racepace) on my stock turbos running 1 bar with a restrictive RSR exhaust. When I upgraded to Super Drager, PFC and 2530s I achieved 320rwkW (Racepace) at 19psi. It's definitely laggier; probably 800-100rpm. With stock turbos I was hitting boost at about 4400 rpm, now it's closer to 5000. There's boost building from below 4000rpm, but nothing really noticeable... once it hits 5000 though, hang on for the ride! Sounds mad too with those larger exhaust wheels.

meshmesh and busky2k,

You gotta understand that the previous figure of 270kw was within the stock engine's capabilities but pushing the factory turbos to their limit.

The new setup is well within the aftermarket turbos' capablities, but pushing the stock engine towards it's limits (of reliability more so than power).

There is more to be had from the 2530s if you are prepeared to lean on them, i got 400rwkw on stock engine and know someone who had 440rwkw on a built engine.

    • Yeah, but look at the margin in viscosity between the 40 and the 60 at 125°C. It is not very large. It is the difference between 7 and 11 cP. Compare that to the viscosity at only 90°C. The viscosity axis is logarithmic. The numbers at 90 are ~15 and ~35. That is about half for the 40 wt oil and <half for the 60. You give up viscosity EXPONENTIALLY as temperature rises. Literally. That is why I declare thicker oil to be a bandaid, and a brittle one at that. Keep the oil temperature under about 110°C and you should be better off.   Having said all of that, which remains true as a general principle, if you have indeed lost enough oil from the sump that the pump was seeing slightly aerated oil, then all bets are off. That would of course cause oil pressure to collapse. And 35 psi is a collapse given what you were doing to the engine. Especially if the oil was that hot and viscosity had also collapsed. And I would put money on rod or main bearings being the source of the any noise that registered as knock. Hydraulic lifters should be able to cope with the hotter oil and lower pressure enough to prvent too much high frequency noise, although I am willing to admit it could be the source.
    • Thanks for the reply mate. Well I really hope its a hose then not engine out job
    • But.... the reason I want to run a 60 weight is so at 125C it has the same viscosity as a 40 weight at 100C. That's the whole reason. If the viscosity changes that much to drop oil pressure from 73psi to 36psi then that's another reason I should be running an oil that mimics the 40 weight at 100C. I have datalogs from the dyno with the oil pressure hitting 73psi at full throttle/high RPM. At the dyno the oil temp was around 100-105C. The pump has a 70psi internal relief spring. It will never go/can't go above 70psi. The GM recommendation of 6psi per 1000rpm is well under that... The oil sensor for logging in LS's is at the valley plate at the back of  the block/rear of where the heads are near the firewall. It's also where the knock sensors are which are notable for 'false knock'. I'm hoping I just didn't have enough oil up top causing some chatter instead of rods being sad (big hopium/copium I know) LS's definitely heat up the oil more than RB's do, the stock vettes for example will hit 300F(150C) in a lap or two and happily track for years and years. This is the same oil cooler that I had when I was in RB land, being the Setrab 25 row oil cooler HEL thing. I did think about putting a fan in there to pull air out more, though I don't know if that will actually help in huge load situations with lots of speed. I think when I had the auto cooler. The leak is where the block runs to the oil cooler lines, the OEM/Dash oil pressure sender is connected at that junction and is what broke. I'm actually quite curious to see how much oil in total capacity is actually left in the engine. As it currently stands I'm waiting on that bush to adapt the sender to it. The sump is still full (?) of oil and the lines and accusump have been drained, but the filter and block are off. I suspect there's maybe less than 1/2 the total capacity there should be in there. I have noticed in the past that topping up oil has improved oil pressure, as reported by the dash sensor. This is all extremely sketchy hence wanting to get it sorted out lol.
