meshmesh and busky2k,

You gotta understand that the previous figure of 270kw was within the stock engine's capabilities but pushing the factory turbos to their limit.

The new setup is well within the aftermarket turbos' capablities, but pushing the stock engine towards it's limits (of reliability more so than power).

There is more to be had from the 2530s if you are prepeared to lean on them, i got 400rwkw on stock engine and know someone who had 440rwkw on a built engine.

400 and 440 rwkw from GT2530s???? Amazing :D

benjiman74,

Bens was done in shootout mode. the dyno I attached doesn't show it. The other dyno sheet I have does. You should be able to find it in my original thread some time ago when I got it done.

dave,

Dunno...?? as far as I know there aren't any disadvantages. But considering I'm running stock dumps, It seems the boys from at ICE were correct.

Are you sure bens was in shootout mode? He never uses shootout to tune cars... why would he have used it for yours?

My 270 is definatly not in shootout mode..

on another note.. i was playing with my boost on the way home. it comes on around 3000rpm, and seems to be on full boost by about 4000rpm... this was playing with 4th and 5th since i was kind of in traffic... i'm pretty sure its the same through most of my gears, boost starts to come in around 3k and is pretty much on fully by 4k

How do you know they were correct? You don't know how aftermarket dumps would affect your setup...

You've only seen one side of the equation so far... For all you know HKS/Mines/CES dumps could lower your lag by 500rpm and give you 20awkw more power? :dunno:

406.1 and 443.7 to be exact, these are rwkw in shootout mode using race fuel. I don't like quoting power figures but the point i was trying to make was the ability of 2530s. My car has gone 126.7 mph and the other did 129 mph, in full street trim.

In defence of ICE, maybe we should clear some of the issues.

Ice and Racepace have a lot of cars in database for comparison purposes.

Did they tell you not to go with the dump pipes or did they suggest you not to bother. Similar thing could be said regarding the cams, intercoolers etc, there is no denying they wouldn't hinder the performance, but if the gains are marginal or not very cost effective you can choose not to have them.

Congratulations Simon, you must be very happy with the result as it was exactly what you were chasing!!!!

I'm sure this power would be enough for the time being, until the 'power bug' bites you again.....

Three words to describe 2530's - AWESOME STREETABLE POWER'

Merli,

I'm not sure who's misunderstanding what here?? :dunno: :D

What I mean in reply to dave's question

Simon,

What are the negatives to aftermarket dumps... ? I know negatives of pods, but I was under the assumption that dumps were always a good idea... obvioulsy wrong !

that I am unaware of any disadvantages of installing dumps... and if anything only advantages. You'll also see I replied in an earlier post

However... I do think it would help reduce lag. I'll wait & see.

But the dyno tells the story... as it stands so far the boys have been correct about the dumps. I'm not making this gospel by any means, I'm only comparing to other GTR Dyno results with similar mods to mine. The same as others will possibly refer to this thread.

I also tried to supply as much info as possible "unlike jezzzzr" [no offence mate], that's why I posted both dyno read outs, that show 2 different (before & after tunes in the) before_2530.jpg & the new mods in the after_2530.jpg.

If it helps I can also post up the dyno sheets, which I felt weren't that important as they show the power curve & boost level which I felt wasn't as important as the AF ratio's.

there is no denying they wouldn't hinder the performance, but if the gains are marginal or not very cost effective you can choose not to have them.

f**k... Emre, your spot on, that's what I've been trying to say for the power target I was trying to achieve it wasn't worth it for such little gain. Thanks.

I have the same starting problem on my car. It's like as if the starter motor is dying but I think it's rather the pump is not getting enough amperage to kick over.

I'm pretty sure my pump was dropped in and there was nothing done to increase the capacity of the cables to the pump.

Mine does always start though, it is just recalcitrant to kick over.

T.

Tony,

It seems so far [touch wood] since replacing the battery this avo, she's kicking over better than ever. We removed the battery and it was a pissy 280cc thing suited for suzuki's and civic. We replaced it with a 450cc Calcium Maintenance free $100, and alls good so far.

Yep same thing, wants to start just reluctant to kick over, that's why we thought it could be fuel pump issue. So far so good with the new battery, maybe you should check your battery also.

I see what you mean, and fair comment I suppose...

Geez over 310 at the wheels. You must be wrapped. My friend just got back his supercharged Holden rodeo last night with a street tune of 310 to get a feel for it. ( It made near on 400 on the dyno ).

He let me drive it and its amazing to have that much power under your foot. Makes you respect what your sitting in a lot too as it could obviously be all over very quickly.

Are you planning to take it to the strip?

I saw Simon last night and he looked as giddy as a school girl! lol

Great stuff mate I have to say. Will be interesting to do the back to back comparison with JAGR33 when his work gets complete in the next few days by the same guys to see the difference (Im not going to spoil it Jack! )

Now mate all you have to do it get the 34 and do it all again! :D

People get waay to tied up today with dyno numbers. Who really cares what XXX number it makes. So much power at the wheels, it pretty safe to say that u wont even know how to proprerly use that amount of power. Hell i dont think i can use all my 200 measly rwkws.

Meshmesh is very correct in that hes got what he wanted. I think its an excellent result for a street car, and those results are on par with other gtrs with 2530s. Obviouslt differnt dynos have silght discrepencies, maybe 5% between them.

meshmesh, great result.

On the thing of dumps - I understand fully if you are 100% happy with your result, so I aint being smart.

I found huge gains in the exhuast side. back pressure really started killing my power above around 290rwkw. I upgraded to a freer flowing exhaust and brought boost on around 600rpm earlier, turbos were more responsive and I picked up top end.

Have you thought about getting the cat removed - this too can really crispen up the throttle and bring boost in earlier. And as for dumps, well there again I think you would find more response and less lag. For a street car, if you can get good response in by around 3-3500 its just about perfect.

Anyways each to their own. you have a great result there.

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
