Hey guys,

Im not sure if starting a thread is a good idea but ill try i guess...

Friday night i pulled over at BP car wash in oakleigh, dandenong rd. bad idea but i thought im driving a honda euro, surely i wont get into trouble.

As i parked at vacum parking where you vaccum the inside of your car... Walked out to get some change, drink and toilet, come back out, there is a fine 122 dollars for "stopped-contrary to a no stopping sign"

I didnt realise there was a sign posted up by car wash saying "no stopping unless vacuming cars between 930pm to 3am"

-The fine doesnt state approx time of offence?

-Are these signs valid because they are not vicroads sign?

Basically im asking if i should contest this or cop it on the chin..

Thanks in advance.

I totally reckon It is bogus! Do not pay it, until you are safistied that it is legit! No time and BP or any service stations are private properties and I doubt they have gazetted it to be public space use, where you can be fined.

I'd write a letter saying you had gone inside to get change for the vacuum.

What an utter bullshit fine.

On a slightly different note, this is interesting:

http://www.trafficlaw.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538

Seems those "pay for" car parks with no attendants or gates are pretty much useless for the owner. Park there for free, and simply ignore the threats which roll in.

I know that there are lots of new parking signs recently installed in that area to combat the groups of people gathering. I also know that there is a move on power fine of $1000 for any "spectators" loitering in area if they remain once instructed to leave area.

In regards to contesting fine for no time, normally if we miss something like that we are instructed to re-issue the fine with necessary corrections. You can always write letter to civic compliance and see how that goes. My letter failed recently for red light offence when turning right as I believed I had entered on green. Can't hurt to try.

Pretty tough to contest/win if police took photo of your car parked with no occupants and sign clearly states no standing expect for vacuuming.

I'd be writing about going to get change, surely they can't expect you to have change on you all the time. It's not like you left the premises. The whole point is to ensure the spot is free for paying customers, well you went and bought a drink so...

I was away from my car no more than 4 minutes all up.

Ill definately give a letter a go and will state that i was getting change (and i was, not making excuses), also mention that there isnt time specified on the ticket which might mean i wasnt even there withing the time of no standing.

Also worth mentioning may be the sign, as the car park is privatly owned, the sign is not a proper sign to go by i dont think...ill post a picture of it later.

Other bays were empty so its not like i was taking someone elses spot while i was inside the petrol station. I have photos to prove but dont know how much that will help me.

I know the one... ...I was there a few weeks ago with some mates (one car, around 11pm) and we'd finished cleaning his car and headed over to get some drinks from BP... ...As we were on out way back a divi van was there writing out a ticket... ...we were told that we weren't allowed to park there to go into BP... ...We argued that we'd just finished cleaning the car and we didn't think we were doing anything wrong by leaving the car for a few minutes because no one else was around and we were the only ones there... ...Cut a long story short... ...we dropped and raised all four windows to show that the inside of the doors were still wet... ...and they let us go...

I'd say fight it as much as you can... ...or at least request a moment of the officers time and plead with him to cancel it...

it's such a pity this is how the vic govt chooses to use our police resourses.

Plus 12% now as off yesterday.

Ah well death and taxes!

It's a shame society now feeds off it's constituents rather than being there for their health and well being

Watching The Matrix, you might find yourself thinking how horrible the human farms are...then take a step back / look at real life and realise we have the coloured-in version of that. Which is ironic, because The Matrix program itself was supposed to be the somewhat pleasant dream we enjoyed while being used as batteries...

If it's private property then the fine isn't worth a pinch of shit unless the car wash has affiliated with the local council to make the fines legally binding.

+1

You can't be fined on private property for no standing :)

I'm pretty sure that the local council has approved the signs. I'm not 100% sure but I don't believe that a service station is deemed as private property but more a road related area in regards to traffic matters. Hence I can catch drink driver, unlicensed, unregistered etc etc in a service station. Also can clearly search car/person for weapons/drugs and lock up drunk as deemed public place.

+1 paradoxes 'r us

Jesus Christ how much pressure is put on the traffic cops to fine people for misdemeanours??!!

Our system relys on an officers judgement and discretion on a case by case basis and more and more of them are landing

on the oppressive bullshit side.

And the councils/Pollies attitude! f**k off! Most of us give a thousand bucks a week For you to waste on 80 thousand useless ministers to shove your responsibilities on to because you all procrastinate and you cant handle a decent workload; and then you turn around and give yourself pay rises and EXTORTINATE amounts of superannuation Stop oppressing the good people and wake up to your own uselessness and moral failures Raaaaaah You are all useless And i wish you a horrible horrible death of diarrhea!!!

... And Adis... hope you beat your fine mate

Interesting, I've seen a council fine been reversed on a service station property. The owner parked in a disabled bay, the fine was reversed as the council didn't have the power on private property :)

    • I am getting the same issue. Did you resolve it? I just got it after installing my new super coppermix and literally the same issue, new fork, new 18mm carrier, release bearing that came with the kit and replicated the exact same sound.
    • If you like - I have the STL files so I can email em. There's a couple of gotchas (i.e the holes are not threaded so you might need/will need) to utilize some M3 melt-in threads for some of the points. However if you want to be super accurate, and are willing to remove your calipers and your SHOCKS it's a really good tool. You also might need to scale the part that measures the tyre width a bit wider. It defaults to a 7.5in tyre and I mean who is running that. Luckily with the magic of CAD this is very easy to rescale.
    • jeebus. glad you weren't under it while performing the stunt. Also thanks for the link to the wheel measurer, exactly what I needed
    • In the older stuff there were very significant differences 2wd to 4wd, for example Stagea had strut front end for 2wd and double wishbone for 4wd so it was not minor to swap. From poking around the 2wd v37, it *looks* like it might be more possible; some of the parts specifically have "2wd" stamped on them which suggests the platforms are more similar. You'd still want to start with a 4wd half cut to swap stuff from though. I'd suggest if you don't have a tune on the ECU you don't really need one on the trans either. Throttle mapping is in the ECU side (and you can always use a Roar Pedal if you want the throttle to actually respond to your foot), and really if you are happy with the stock power you probably accept the stock trans behaviour too....its all made to be "sporty" not racey.
    • So, updates. I have not washed the car since it came back from Tassie. I've driven it around a bit but not got around to actually sorting it out. I DID raise it because I cracked the rear bar leaving a hotel which was very distressing. Interestingly, the car drives more compliant now that it's raised a fair bit (5mm front, 15mm rear). Also noticed that my FR height was 10mm lower than FL. So that's now sorted out, too. I also bought this and had it printed: https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/1576422240/wheel-and-tire-fitment-tool-universal?ref=shop_home_feat_1&dd=1&logging_key=08f604d9fa4cc383550ba985e6ac85cd5cac7fbb%3A1576422240 Now, if I was smart I would have taken my brake calipers off to actually use this correctly but it was evident enough to me that in the region where the caliper was... there was nothing to hit suspension/guard/arm wise. So I'm going with "it'll be fine" after using the tool to hopefully very precisely measure the wheel clearance. Also while doing this, I had the very VERY bad idea of jacking one of the wheels/suspension arms up while the rest of the car was on jack stands. I did this to see how the arm would travel. This all was well and good until the car slid off the stands and went through a fence. So don't do that. Incredibly nobody was hurt and there was only minor damage to the rear bumper as the car didn't have far to slide, and had 3-4 wheels on it. The only damage turned out to be the fence itself which was easy to fix, and a little bit of damage to the fibreglass rear bumper trim. I had already planned to try a touch up paint kit to fix the time I drove into my garage door to see if it'd help in the interim before I get it fixed properly. I used the Dr Colorchip kit after looking online and seeing everyone talking about it. Yes it's made for chips and not huge broken missing pieces and I'll be 500% recommending it for stone chips after using it for stupid things like me. This took about ... 10 minutes and looking at the half assed photo the 30 second job I did on the bumper corner was almost perfect just by using the tiny little brush and painting it in. The sealact stuff to remove over-painting is really useful, so if/when I do it again I'll likely slather the touch up paint well over it and then clean it up with the cleaning solution. The wheels should arrive in a couple of weeks. I am still kinda confident after doing a stupid amount of measuring (and borrowing a set of 18x10.5+15) that they will not fit because I overlooked something, somehow and flew too close to the sun. ALSO R34 GTR guard liners do not fit on a GTT. I bought the undertray brake duct guides and had the wonderful problem of them not fitting my intake, my oil cooler and the liners themselves were even worse. Attempting to fit them won't work in general - You would have to cut them up as another poster mentioned as the bodywork is different on the GTT. At least I can try to resell them. So instead of cutting those up, I cut up my old already-cut-up GTT liners and extended them by using some PP plastic and drilling some 8mm holes for some nissan clips for the 'extra' bit. Because I was happy to cut them I was able to mount them pretty damn forward so I now have some semblance of guard liners, and the brake vents seal the bumper from the bottom. It sort-of-looks like this, to give some idea - If you look at the GTR and then the GTT this is when I realised that I needed to seriously measure as the inside of the rim area is entirely, entirely, entirely different and could not take any internet measurements for granted.
