Hi guys and gals,

just a quick question after installing an apexi pen style turbo timer and was wondering if anyone knew how to program the O2 and AFR part of the timer as the instructions with the timer aren't that clear. any help would be great. ps its for a series 1 r33 gts-t 94 model.

There is no programming. It's as simple as getting a pinout diagram of the ECU and then tapping into those respective outputs.

You don't need one. Uninstall it and buy something useful.

This. Listen to it. I have one and I dislike it immensely. Used to think it was cool and that everyone thought I was badass. My have even thought it served some remote purpose. But it's not, nobody does, and it doesn't. They are just annoying and they cause problems. If I could be bothered ripping it out then I would, but it's no longer working anyway so I just leave it there.

Mine is generally switched off in most cases but is mounted right up in the upper right of the windscreen, nobody see's it and its of no bother :) Most trips in the car wouldnt warrant having it on...

Martin, i spliced into the loom at the right connector just doesnt want to work. just wondering if my o2 sensor is shot because the autometer guage never reads accurately as well.

Is the Autometer a wideband? If not, then it will never read accurately. If it is, then that's why the O2 sensor function won't work, they only work with the stock narrowband signal.

martin its a narrow band guage but its never raed accuarately only maybe once or twice in its life. i also connected the apexi time directly to the o2 sensor loom in the engine bay and went for a fang never got above .5v which makes me start to think the sensor may be stufed. the motor does have over 320K on the clock. but still pulls hard and drives well. whats the average life span of an o2 sensor anyway? any help would be greatly apperciated.

Well what do you consider accurate? The only thing a narrowband gauge will ever do is flick from lean to rich. Off the top of my head, the sensors operate between 0.4v and 0.8v; but will typically be at around 0.45v. If it's not showing over 0.5v, you may have a stuffed sensor, or the gauge you are using is junk, which wouldn't surprise me.

If you are getting any semblance of decent fuel economy, then it won't be a stuffed sensor.

car still gets around 550km if nursed or around 400km if flogged per tank. only has rebuilt turbo (roller bearing and steel ex turbine and blitz nur cat back exhaust. so i guess i just got sucked in by the techno wank factor :rant:

Dont install it man, just dont flog it for 10mins before you turn it off, there the biggest wank factor out and it makes your car ALOT easier to steal.

Even 10 minutes is a lot of overkill. 1 minute is plenty.

    • Yeah, but knowledge of one wire's insulation worn through to short on earth implies the possibility of other wires doing the same. I had my power steering die, because the wire that runs to the solenoid valve on the rack runs in the same loom as the power wire for the O2 sensor. And when the O2 sensor/wire did something stupid and burnt part of that loom to death, the only indication was the shit(ter) fuel economy and the heavy steering. It took deep excavation of the looms in the bay to find the problem. Not wear through in that case, but similar shit.
    • Ah, I thought he'd wired it to one of the spare ECU inputs! Too long ago since I read that post, ha ha. I've been arguing with radiators, harmonic balancers, alternators and rust since reading it.
    • Correct. The ECU cannot read oil temp. (Well, I think it probably can in some situations. I did have the thought of potentially repinning the ECU when I was doing oil pressure). I am using this into the MPVI dongle, so that the MPVI dongle can read oil temperature. It is attached to a VDO gauge which is obviously calibrated to whatever curve the sender actually is using. This would be easy if I could setup a table of voltage to temperature like many sensors, but it appears I cannot do this and can only setup the transform rule which appears to be Input (voltage) x Multiplier, and add an offset. This to me means it MUST be linear. So it may be a complete waste of time wiring this into the ECU. The idea was that the MPVI3 has standalone logging. I wanted to use this instead of a laptop with serial cable (for wideband) for long datalogs. Given the wideband also has electric interference, I may never trust this either in a world where the serial wideband and the analog output wideband do not agree. Last time I did a trace I could see the two wideband traces follow each other, but one was a little leaner than the other. I plan on playing with voltage offsets and actually driving the thing to see how close they correlate. If they never correlate... then, well, maybe I'll never use either. Ideally I'd like to have the Analog wideband read ever so slightly leaner than the serial one, because the serial one is 'correct'. Tuning the car to be ever so slightly too-rich would be the aim. Not needing to have a laptop flying around in the footwell connected with cables is... an advantage. About the only one from the forced upgrade to MPVI3.

    • I don't think he's got it on a gauge and on the ECU. I think he's got it on the gauge and on the HPTuners DAq thingo. Remember, we're talking about oil temp here, not something that the ECU is actually interested in for its own sake.
