iwanta34gtr
U should see it in the flesh like it rolled off the showroom Thanks mate. Just had her bonnet, front bumper and lip resprayed to remove the little stone chips - etc, so coming straight out of the panel shop, naturally there are a few swirls present at the moment. Have had a few messages from members and friends regarding the last post on swirls and prevention. With her fresh paint in its current state, good opportunity for the next update to be a quick tutorial on standard swirl removal. Chris-06R
Chris, How did the painters go matching the colour? The photos look perfect - can you pick it when you're standing there looking at it? My front bar is in need of a respray as well... Will you shed a tear the first time you end up with a new stone chip like I would? With Bayside Blue being a triple layer pearl, I understand (and shared) your colour match concerns. The panel shop I went to even brought in a paint chemist to ensure the colour was 100%. PM sent with further details. Cheers. Lazy-Bastard
Awesome work! Another product I can recommend In the Meguiars range is their Trim detailer, it's magic on exterior plastics [all plastics really] especially the plastic trim at the base of the windscreen Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/400712-my-bayside-blue-r34-vspec-gtr-finally-detailed/page/5/#findComment-6623456 Share on other sites

iwanta34gtr
Part 10 - Scratch and Swirl Removal - As requested, a quick tutorial on what products to use for effective scratch and swirl removal. Below are a few products from my collection - depending on the condition of your paint and its requirements, one or a combination should give you the result you are after. For optimal results, recommend that you first clay the surface so its smooth as glass and apply products with DA / random oribital polisher. Meguiars M105 Ultra Cut Compound - Meguiars most abrasive compound, recommend followed by M205 ultra finishing polish for best results. In most cases, this combo will not be required unless you have a very neglected finish with not only swirls requiring removal, but a noticeable quantity of heavy scratches, defects and paint fade evident as well. Meguiars Ultimate Compound - Abrasive compound, recommend this be followed by a polish such as ultimate polish and wax such as ultimate wax / nxt gen tech wax 2.0. Effective for heavy swirls and holograms / trails left from the incorrect use of a rotary buffer. Also effective for light - moderate scratch removal / paint fade. Meguiars Ultimate Polish - Recommend followed by wax such as Ultimate wax / nxt gen tech wax 2.0. Effective for removal of light swirling and holograms. Meguiars Colour X / Swirl X - Both can be effectively used as a quicker 1 step solution for swirl removal. Effective for light swirling and holograms. Not very agressive, so great if your on a budget / your paint is already in good condition and just requires a simple solution for swirl removal / wax. Meguiars Scratch X - Less abrasive than meguiars other compounds, great to use if there are light scratches / swirls in an isolated area. A few small tips documented on one of the previous pages to assist you with scratch and swirl prevention - - Use a microfibre wash pad (Such as the yellow meguiars one). - Use a microfibre chamois (Such as the yellow meguiars supreme shine one). - Use a gentle motion with the chamois, not much pressure is required and also just 'pat' it around the dryer areas - dont smear. - 2 bucket method of washing with PH neutral car wash (Provides good lube and wont strip your wax - etc). - Use a seperate sponge for the top areas of the car to the bottom of the car (Around wheel arches, side skirts - etc). Hope this helps. JGTC
always great to see owners achieve such great results from off-the-shelf products - really proves that a lot of the work is through the technique and just general learning to use these products rather than having to buy all boutique items car looks fantastic mate - it would break my heart way to often to keep a car that clean - this GTR really is one of the hero's of SAU Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/400712-my-bayside-blue-r34-vspec-gtr-finally-detailed/page/5/#findComment-6669262 Share on other sites

Mavric
WOW What an exceptional example of a GTR! Your efforts are exceptional! Your attention to detail is outstanding and your results have shown this in every photo. Your engine bay is clean enough to eat off awesome! One of your most valuable posts is where you have mentioned reapplication. This is sooo important. All the effort you have put into making it look fantastic can be all wasted if you don’t re-apply your protection, and keep applying it often. Great thread and looking forward to seeing more progress shots.
