Russman
Hi guys. I'm looking to buy some Dzus fasteners to fix panels, under trays and diffusers etc to my car for quick removal. Can anyone recommend where to buy from? Seem expensive in some places. Tried eBay too. but unclear on how they attach to the fixed part. I want the self ejecting type on this website. http://www.performancewholesale.com.au/component/content/article/305-dzus-part-numbers?catid=57#selfeject I'm a bit unclear on how they attach to the fixed part. Any advice or guidance. thanks Russ Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/401940-dzus-fasteners/ Share on other sites
levinboy
Best way i would describe it is with this picture the back wire part is on the static part, ie chassis and the fastener itself is on the removable part hope that all makes some sense use these at work, on aircraft Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/401940-dzus-fasteners/#findComment-6387590 Share on other sites

Duncan
these things can be a bit of a pain, especially for things which are on and off regularly. They can get sloppy and misaligned. There are other types of clips, or even consider bonnet pins for ease of use Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/401940-dzus-fasteners/#findComment-6387746 Share on other sites

Nee-san
try Boeing, seriously. Also get steel ones that won't get f**ked, the weight penalty versus aluminium is minimal. By steel I mean CroMo Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/401940-dzus-fasteners/#findComment-6392518 Share on other sites
Duncan
I watched a corvette with a serious case of dzus faster fail driving around mid ohio track without a front this morning Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/401940-dzus-fasteners/#findComment-6392566 Share on other sites
UWAM
These are awesome for certain things, such as bodywork etc that comes on and off fairly often. Definitely wouldn't use them on parts that are excessively heavy or may take a hit, like a floor or undertray though. Major negative in my opinion is that they aren't very tolerant of misalignment. If you want them to much locating of the part, there are better options. CameronBNR32
I run them in my front bumper as I need to remove it to get it on the trailer, not sure if I would trust them for undertrays. http://www.mscn.com.au/ they are in melbourne and have dzus clips on their website Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/401940-dzus-fasteners/#findComment-6394197 Share on other sites

Rowdyr32
All of the turbine helicopters use these for most of the exterior panels that aren't structural. You can buy the in some fairly large sizes and I haven't ever seen any fail that haven't been miss installed (wrong length or old/over tightened and broke the tangs). If it has to take load I'd run nut plates and countersunk screws with a reinforced section in the removable panel. Might take 20 seconds longer for 6-10 screws to remove but for piece of mind. Buy an electric screwdriver and its the same time. Also note that nutplates are way stronger than rivnuts without the issues as there steel not aluminium. A few places on the airport sell dzus fittings in different sizes and styles. Russman
So the nut plate is like a weld on or rivet on plate with a nut welded on it? It's only for underbody so don't really need to take load. Just has to sit there. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/401940-dzus-fasteners/#findComment-6431388 Share on other sites
260DET
The nut plate can be the rivet on or slip on type, I have just bought some from Kurveygirl, a motorcycle place. 2pee
Could try Camlocks too, often used in aviation where the breeze would be something approaching LMP speed on the Mulsanne. Pretty much all methods mentioned, require reasonably accurate hole location.....although you can get floating nut plates that give extra wiggle room. Wicks and Aircraft Spruce - among others, do have handy little duplicating devices and templates which can save a bit of potty mouth during the fabrication. Crazybenjo
Dzus Fasteners? I work with them everyday. they are okay when new but after a bit of use.... they are designed to save time and to make sure stuff isnt overtorqued but after a bit of use they are just dumb. usually-well mannered people start using swear words and even invent some, and to be honest, they are pricey. Use the money on a good snap-on electric screwdriver, get some anchor nuts (nylock type) and forget these stupid things.
