The new collar will be 40.7mm so you have probably just bought a collar for nothing. Don't waste any more money by getting it fitted. Yes it would entail machining off the old collar and replacing it with one exactly the same. Its only worth doing if you have the older style shorter collar that only partly engages with the pump.

Great can anyone confirm this as i just lost 198 bux on a collar

No one's going to pay you $195 for a crank collar - your best bet is to see if your supplier will take it back less a handling fee maybe for a credit if not a refund so that you can buy something else off them.

The factory crank collars tend to be far too small. Too much clearance between it and the pump gear.

Sounds like your engine is built so your stuck with the factory drive. At least its a long nose one though.

Balanced crank is good as is the ATI balancer.

More oil pressure is better to a point. AS A MINIMUM you want 10PSI per 1,000RPM. Oil pressure also depends a lot on what viscosity oil your using.

But lets say its a street car, you have your rev limiter set to 7,500 RPM, when the oil is hot, you would like around 90PSI at around 4,000RPM all the way through to 7,500RPM. Being an RB26 your rev limiter may be higher.

The more oil pressure you have the better (higher pressure around the bearings prolongs bearing life), but the more oil pressure you have the more problems you have trying to get the oil back down to the sump as quick as possible.

Why is this said if r33 crank is ok?

Why is this said if r33 crank is ok?

Everyone agrees that the early short crank collars should be replaced to safeguard the oil pump but there is a theory that the later full length collars and therefore the Jun and Tomei collars (and the ones that I sell) allow too much clearance and therefore destroy oil pumps. I don't accept that this theory is by any means proven but those that believe it either weld up their cranks and machine them down to allow less clearance or else get bigger (than 40.7mm) collars made up. I don't know how they pan out.

There are hundreds or probably thousands of RB engines with stock full length collars that have not destroyed their oil pumps so I remain unconvinced.

In any case the collar you have bought will just replicate the collar you already have so that is why it is not worth fitting.

because there may be too much clearance and not enough meat on the std crank. the oil drive on the std crank is only cast and with a hard steel oil pump it may wear. installing a hard steel crank collar should lessen this and u should have a better clearance. just wait till u get the collar mate dont stress.

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
