Hi Guys

So ive searched and I can see that this topic has been beaten to death many times before , as the 7m's have gasket issues , the RB's seem to be prone to misfire and low revs

I bought my Skyline about 2 weeks ago , drives like a dream however when idling or waiting in traffic the revs seem to drop and the engine seems to misfire , the revs then pickup again but every now and then will drop and misfire.....

yes check AAC etc...but after i dropped 15k into my supra and worked on it by myself I promised not to touch a car(or at least my car) again...so im taking it to a professional.

Ive heard good things about Indy at IS Racing in Rockdale so i gave him a call , he seems to know a good deal about RB's

He then asked me what i petrol I use(told him premium 98) and then mentioned that RB's are known to drop revs and misfire from time to time because they are tuned for Japanese fuel but is now running on Australian fuel which is significantly different.

He said if im looking for silky smoothness (ie a "quiet engine , no taps etc) then i wont find this in an RB

I wanted him to take a look at it anyway so Im booked in at 11 tomorrow but just wanted to know what you guys thought of this....

Misfiring at low revs and revs dropping at idle because of the petrol we use is quite a big issue. My question is ,can any of you guys confirm this, is this a well known "RB fact"?

my car runs silky smooth and i run on e10....... (rb25det NEO @ 14psi stock turbo)

r33's have an issue with the aac getting really dirty and most people seem to flush them out or clean them.

i know of some people claiming to have problems in some of their skylines when running hi octane petrol, one guy says he has a perfectly stock r32gtr from japland and he has problems running 100octane and sais the car runs like shit and just spits and misfires, so he runs octane booster.

my 2 personal friends on the other hand, have both imported a r32gtr from japland 4 months ago, with everything stock besides the exhaust and the boost restrictor removed can run their cars perfectly on e10, 95oct,and 98oct.

so to be honest, i dont know what people have problems with.

Whow really?! I wonder if it will ling its head off!

Not like it says put in premium fuel on the fuel flap!

checked ping. ive had no problems with pinging on e10. ethanol runs as good as it should. 95 i got more pinging than on e10.

why do people think e10 is shit petrol? we all know the properties of ethanol and the chemical structure. it is better than petrol

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.
