Since i got a copy of all my Dyno's in my Previous R33, i thought i would put up a post of how the car performed to the mods i did. This thread could possibly help people who are in the build of quick rb25's.

BU5TER and STEVE, im pretty sure you guys could ad to this.

When i first bought my car it came with these mods:

Garret GT30 .82 rear housing

Forward facing standard plenum

Bosch 0444 fuel pump and surge and larger fuel lines

Micks Metal craft front mount

Microtech MTX8

MSD Dis 4 ignition system

42mm Turbonetics Deltagate (external Venting)

Custom Exhaust Manfiold

3inch Exhaust with no cat, Just a rear HKS rear muffler.

1st dyno on 17psi it made 330rwhp

2nd dyno with some tuning it made 360rwhp on 21psi

3rd dyno with some more tuning and 26psi it made 387rwhp

(dont have dyno sheets for above as i have lost them)

With 330rwhp 1/4mile time was 13.6 @ 113mph

360rwhp 13.2 @ 116mph

(60fts being in the 2.4's)

Then i got bigger injectors. Changed from Standard to 660cc and fitted a Malpassi fuel pressure reg.

Same set up on 28psi it made 421.2hp. As you can see after 6500rpm there was a major drop off. This engine lasted like this for only a few weeks before it spun a bearing and dropped piston number 6 into the sump. This was on BP Ultimate.

Built a new engine, got the head cleaned up and moddified. This time switched to wiseco pistons from Arias forget pistons and we dropped the compression slightly.

Same set up as above except less compression and different pistons, i made 420.7rwhp. Though it held more power up to past 6500rpm. This tune was done on Optimax.

This set up lasted a month before the turbo shit it self.

I then went out and bought a Trust T88-33d. Rated at either 750 or 850hp (sorry forgot what it was rated at). I also got a new headgasket, and modified the exhaust manifold.

With less timing on 24psi it made 345rwhp. (dis regard the rpm @ the bottom due to it being out by 500-1000rpm). This was on BP Ultimate.

With the above set up i took it to Willowbank in Complete St trim, put the boost down to 20psi due to a leaking exhaust gasket manifold. It went 12.601 @ 120.6*mph with a 2.3 60ft. (gave time slip to new owner).

Once sorted leaking gasket and manifold went back to the track on 24psi, 1st run the intercooler connecting hose shat it self. Though 330ft was .5sec quicker then 12.601 pass and was up 4mph too.

With the same set up on 21psi and leaking exhaust manifold gasket again (now with the new owner) at the Mazfix Dyno day it made 419.2 hp

SOme people say the car was making alot less power then it should due to the tuning, some said my cams were restrictiing it too much.

Hope the above info helps and any one else with Hi Hp rb25 please do post up the steps you have taken

Good luck

harun

Thanks heaps for the pretty dyno graphs and pretty expensive parts listings but did the car ever run an 11 ? ! ? ! ?

Dont you think some pretty timeslips would be a better indicator of your ability to give advice on this subject? Oh and for the record, mine is in my profile.

Adrian

Benm wake up to yourself with the fact of Nitto's will instantly make your car quick, what about suspension? camber? clutch? useable power? etc etc and last but not least the driver

Trust me when I say just by using nittos it will help a little but if the car isn't set up right or driver isn't good enough they wont help to much at all as all I ever did was a 1.97 60ft at full power with nittos which sucks

It's very rare that a person will tell a bit of build up history about their car, especially the case that extends over a couple of major changes. Thanks for the info Harun, but as Brett pointed out there's alot more to doing a good time than a big turbo :D

Oh, and not meaning to burst that big bubble of your's Adrian, but nitrous is a different ballgame :(

Oh, and not meaning to burst that big bubble of your's Adrian, but nitrous is a different ballgame

What? So i didn't run an eleven? You should've told me earlier!!! Damn... Think of the embarassment you could've sav.....wait a minute.... No bubble burst here mate. I did it. And it cost a damn sight less than Haruns build. How does it make my time somehow less significant?

I simply feel it makes a lot more sense for someone to say, "I have run xx.xx sec - here's how to do it." if they have ACTUALLY DONE IT!

You're right about this though - "there's alot more to doing a good time than a big turbo".

Adrian

It's not diminishing the fact you ran a particular time once, it's not the fact that Harun's car didn't run an 11 second pass.

This post shows the development, modifications and results of a few different (and major) changes on one particular vehicle. Granted they would have been expensive, and sharing the knowledge will probably help a few people decide what works and what doesn't - as well as saving resources in repeating the same decisions.

With the somewhat repeatable performance of the engine modifications done to this RB25 it could have been used for drifting, dragging or circuit work. Or could just be shown around so people can gawk in awe at a massive turbo.. there's gotta be something said for show cars 'cause I think the Autosalon boys are raking the cash in. Don't think they would be so successful if there wasn't a market for it?

It is a valuable thread and I totally appreciate how open and un-guarded Harun has been with the information posted.

However, I believe the title of the thread is total cops-arse and not an appropriate way to introduce the valuable information above to potential readers who, (and rightly so) expect to see someones take on the ways and means to producing an eleven second car. Only thing is, he has everything bar the timeslips.

Rather like me saying, "How to produce a 350rwkw RB25!" and then showing you low 11-sec timeslips and video footage of people hanging on inside the car saying, "Woah!" as a means to justify it.

12.6 is a world away from 11.999!

Well, since you asked for it, I did manage to run a sub 10 recently with the new turbo and suspension setup in my Skyline. Really hooks up well now, the fronts are off the ground!

Interesting thread :)

I must agree that it was a very curious choice of thread title

Also, you state that people have been commenting on the fact that you made less power with the larger T88-33D Turbo... Can I suggest that it might have something to do with your, I quote "modified exhaust manifold"?

I don't think people (in general) really realise the effects of exhaust flow dynamics on turbo operation... You can't just grab your old exhaust manifold, weld on a split flange and whack a T88-33D onto it!!! The T88-33D has a twin scroll exhaust housing, and it is designed to recieve pulsed exhaust gasses through a 6-into-2 exhaust manifold grouping...

I am of course, assuming many things about your setup.

Adrian: what your saying is correct. It did have have the power bar the timeslip. The 1st time i went out the best i could do was a 12.6 @ 120mph (3 runs only). I was only boosting to 20psi due to having a leaking exhaust manifold. A problem which i couldnt clear. The next time i hit the track i blew the Intercooler connector hose pipe (one of the corner bends). I asked every one at the track if they could either let me borrowone for the evening or buy a similar bent hose off them. But to no avail.

The next day i sold the car. I tried to make the new owner take it out to prove that it would do an 11 at approx 12+mph but he ended up having an accident in it and wrote it off.

You can bag, insult what ever you like about the time slip, but (as every one has an excuse) if i did have slicks or Nittos, god dam it would of ran an 11.

Im just trying to help those who seek info on 'what' i did to achieve such power which was capable of an 11sec pass. Sorry for the topic heading as that is what came to my mind when i decided to write this thread.

Merli: The manifold i had was a 6-2 design manifold. I think it was actually working backwards on the GT30. As you can see max boost was reached at very similar revs.

Here is also the other 2 dyno sheets.

BTW: When the car made 345rwhp it was @ 24psi. At the mazfix dyno day it was running less boost with yet again another leaking exhaust manifold and made 419rwhp.

From your first post, I read that you bought the car with a Garrett GT30, and a custom exhaust manifold... I assumed that the exhaust manifold was made for the GT30? But obviously not if it was a 6-2 design!!!

That's extremely interesting... Do you have any pics by any chance?

2rismo - whats your best time without the assistance of the "bottle"?

13.0 on shit rubber. I believe that the Nittos I used to run 11.9 would only have shaved a couple of tenths off the time as without the gas, I'm leaving the line with a lot less power.

Out of interest, the nittos made over half a second difference to my time compared to the rubber I used to run the constant 12.5's with the bottle and the 13.0 without.

As I don't have a timeslip for no bottle/nittos I will say that a 12.7-12.8 is all that would be possible in my car without the bottle.

All of the above with me driving - I don't know why people forget that the driver is needed to pedal the car down the track.

    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Comparison of the 2: Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
