Depends on the controller.

Because you can, obviously. It's also cheaper and he has multiple other drives for backup capacity.

Ummm, no.

The difference between say 200Mb/sec and 300Mb/sec (the difference between a single SSD sand 2x SSDs in a RAID0) is irrelevant to gaming/home user.

In a server, yeah, great, but for gaming/browsing/photoshopping etc there would be no discernible difference in performance.

There's evidence out there, Whirlpool is a great source.

Ok so doing some number crunching - going with a 750W PSU instead :)

Enermax Platimax 750W EPM750AWT

As most PSU's are most efficient @ 50% load - i'll be nicely inbetween 350-450W which is a nice sweet spot, and saves a bit of cashola (around $40)

I'm still debating the Sandisk vs Samsung SSD route as there is another $70 or so there as well which gets the build back to around $1770 and isn't too bad at all for what should be a very solid PC for another 4 years

Just dropped the hammer.

Changed to a Corsair AX750 and a Sandisc SSD

$1738

Should have it up and running by next week as I'm (waiting for my Technet renewal to go through. Plus I'm too busy the next 3-4 days to do it, just need to get the parts here first.

Noice.

As soon as my tax return hits, I'm ordering a Catleap and going to go grab another 6950 and Crossfire it with my current one.

I can't wait to see Beef 3 on 2560x1440 *drool*

Stupid CPU cooler hits one ram stick LOL

f**k...

Just running stock Inter cooler for now and no overclocking. Will workout what im gonna do next week.

Otherwise all good - will also do SSD next week as well

As i said earlier - I'm not convinced of the Corsair items when using an external fan controller. People have been reporting issues when doing so and I'm not at all keen on having to pull the case out/cover off each time I want to adjust the fan speed. It shouldn't have the fan controller on the actual heatsink, it's a fken stupid idea really

Hrm... I will get the H100 if anything as I've got a case that has dual fans for exhaust and also a good mount point for a dual radiator area.

I'll do more researching.

Time being though it's nice and zippy with the SSD and sits around 4ghz without much drama and heat

$1738 for whole system?

Yeah I put it together myself the other day, took me maybe 60mins :)

The issue is the air cooler didn't fit as I've gone into... Depends if you want to overclock or not. I'm not sold on what action I'm going to take (swap the ram or change cooler). I'll ponder it for a week or two longer.

For the price - it's blisteringly fast and great for gaming. Huge improvement over my 4yo setup... I'd also expect this setup to stand the test of time and go another 4 years without needing an upgrade other than changing video card every 18 months or so

    • You still want a proper tune on the stock ECU though. Stock tune + stock ECU with GT-SS/-9s is probably playing with fire if you're running more than stock airflow/power.
    • I like their veal scallopini.
    • Definitely a hearty eater when we go out, I consider these meals my cheat day as I've been watching my calories in and calories out pretty hard since my little fun size stroke, I've gone from a fat boy of 89 Kg, I'm only 165cm tall/short, down to a almost semi lean 73 Kg over the last few years, I'm currently around 17% body fat which my doctor is very happy with, but, my goal is to slowly get down to and maintain 15%,so yeah, I want all of the protein, carbs, fats and sugars when I go out for a binge
    • There was a great one on Victoria Rd in Gladesville too back in the day. I can only assume GTSBoy is thinking of the mill up on the wollondilly, no restaurant there any more but they have restored the original steam engine on site and run it every few months, have an annual steampunk festival etc @The Bogan, you came to the wrong town for restaurants. we have a few reasonable asian and indian options but the Paragon is as good as it gets otherwise. That brewery is apparently just opened, been meaning to give it a go some time. The Highlands have plenty of fancy options but I suspect you are more a hearty eater than fancy eater
